Ben opened the music player under programs and clicked on one of his playlists. Once he found the road leading towards the city, Ben began to sprint for a while then slow down to a jog to catch his breath and once his stamina regenerated it was back to sprinting along while enjoying the music.

He continued to run like this for a few miles until he received a couple of surprises. An icon began to suddenly flash in his peripheral vision. The system told him to simply think about wanting to open the icon. It took a moment to get the hang of it and when it opened a series of notices were displayed before him.

[Notice] [You have learned a new skill! Running Skill Level 1.]

[Notice] [You have learned a new skill! Sprinting Skill level 1.]

[Notice] [You have increased an attribute! Stamina +1]

Stopping on the side of the road to read the notices Ben was shocked to learn he could actually create skills and increase attributes through physical activity!

'I would ask the system why it didn't tell me this was possible earlier when I was complaining about the prices, but I'm sure it would say I had never asked.' He thought while shaking his head.

Closing out the notices he got back to his routine of jogging and sprinting toward Goldcrest. As he neared the city he would pass the occasional person traveling along the road in either direction. No one bothered Ben as he traveled toward the city, but he drew a few strange looks and half-hearted waves as he waved to the people he passed.

He wasn't sure why these people were so put off about until he caught a few of them curiously looking him over from top to bottom. When he glanced down he realized because he was so hot last night, he had put on a tank top, shorts, white socks, and running shoes after his shower.

'I need to remember this is another world, their culture will be different than that of modern Earth. Most of the people I have come across appear to be wearing clothing similar to Earth's iron age.'

Remembering the [Clothing category] in the store, Ben opened and browsed around while he continued to jog.

He found clothes from Earth and from this world available for purchase. There were even patterns, needles, threads, and fabrics that could be used to tailor clothes by hand.

The system even provided a feature that allowed him to use a custom menu to create a piece of clothing or an outfit of any style using any of the available fabrics!

He could see exactly what the clothing would look like in the custom menu and make alterations on the fly before finalizing the purchase.

As he was exploring all the options in further detail, Ben came across a small column at the top of the store page that read system balance.

[System Balance 2000g]

Ben frowned and asked, "System, what is this small column that says system balance 2000g?"

*Ding!* [The system balance is the current funds that the host can use toward making purchases with the store option. Any currency amount displayed in the system balance can be deposited or withdrawn at any time. You have been given 2000 gold coins.]

"You're telling me I can remove this money to get a room at an inn or a meal at a restaurant then?"

*Ding!* [The host is correct, this is money is presented to help the host get started. Spend it wisely once it is gone you will need to find money another way to use the store options.]

Ben came to a stop in the middle of the dirt road then with a disbelieving look on his face.

"Um, just a quick question sweetie, don't you think you should have mentioned that earlier when we were going over everything?" He asked through his clenched teeth trying to remain calm.

*Ding!* [The system was not asked about this so any prevalent information was not provided.]

'I called it earlier! I will just need to go over everything in detail when I have the time!'

Now that he knew he had some available funds, Ben designed an outfit that looked like the clothes of the local population he had seen traveling along this road. Ben made one change and it was to not use the rough looking materials that reminded him of burlap. He instead opted to use a blended lightweight cotton fabric.

This way he would look like everyone else and have a comfortable outfit that felt like he was wearing a tracksuit and not a scratchy cloth sack.

Once, Ben completed his design he chose the finish option. The system informed him of a new option just as the new outfit was created.

*Ding!* [Inventory is now available! Your items can be found there. You may access your inventory through the main interface of just think or say the word inventory.]

"Inventory!"

Once he found the new clothes in his inventory he discovered he could remove them to put them on normally or click on them and select equip and they would just appear on him. When he clicked equip he made the mistake of leaving his original clothes on and the new clothes went on over the top of them. Once, Ben used the unequip option to remove his shorts and the tank-top on his Paper Doll display and he was much more comfortable for it.

"Haha, I need to be careful to not use this equip and unequip option in front of people. It might freak them out to see a new set of clothes just instantly appear on me."

From the calculations of the system, he had now run just over five miles from his starting point to this area near city gates. He leveled up in running and sprinting again and received three more stamina points.

"Status!"

Ben did a quick scan of his status to see his improvements while waiting in line to enter the city. Even, though, it was getting later in the day there were still a few carts being pulled by strange beasts in line awaiting inspection before entering the city.

It wasn't long before one of the guards saw he was empty-handed and waved him through ahead of the carts.

Upon entering, he noticed the city walls seemed to be made of wood and stacked fieldstone. For a capital city, he expected much sturdier fortifications.

The walls were about twenty feet high without a moat or any barriers to stop an invading army from simply leaning ladders against the walls and climbing up to the battlements.

He gave the guards a friendly nod with a smile on the way in so that they wouldn't react suspiciously toward him examining the walls so thoroughly and quickly set out off down the main street.

This capital city was like traveling into Earth's ancient past. Simple wood and stone buildings lined the streets which were paved with rough uncut river stone. It appeared that they had not discovered how to cut stone with saw blades or they had not attempted to create smooth city streets yet.

As he had traveled to this city the outer kingdom roads were all unpaved dirt roads. It seemed like these city streets were only paved to avoid the thick mud that would build up when it rained due to all of the city's traffic.

The overall first impression of the Goldcrest city was it had been built for functionality without much thought to comfort or appearance.

While traveling these rough city streets if Ben came across any type of shop, he would head inside to purchase any items he may need in the near future.

He decided to buy pots, pans, tableware, cooking utensils, a rope, a blanket, a bedroll, a small tent, a fire starter kit, a crude iron shovel, and a waterskin while continuing to look for anything that could be of use when out in the wilderness.

The prices were much cheaper than the items offered by the System Store so he made sure he bought anything that could be of use before he decided to set off on his own and left this city.

With the help of his inventory, he could duck into an alley after leaving a shop and stash away his purchases. This left his hands free from having to carry all the bulky gear he bought.

In the center of the city, Ben came upon a large open rough stone paved square with rows of vendor stalls. The vendors laid out their many wares for display while hoping to draw in the perusing shoppers.

Still, unsure of how the system worked, Ben bought any seeds for crops or fruits he found. He also decided to buy vegetables, fruits, spices, cooking oil, bags of flour, and some type of meat that seemed to be popular with the locals.

Ben asked the vendor he was dealing with about affordable Inns and was told about a decent Inn that was on the street just north of the city square.

When he arrived Ben found that it was a nice Inn that had a clean tavern and dining room downstairs with rooms on the second and third floors. Unsure of how long he would stay in the city he paid for a room for one night and ordered a meal to be sent up to him.

While waiting on his meal, Ben decided to browse through the options of his system and ask questions about anything he didn't understand. After visiting a couple weapon and armor shops earlier, he also decided to go through his shop to see how this world compared to what he had available in his store.

The system store offered a wide selection of weapons. He could purchase the crude iron style like those sold in this city or with enough gold coins buy a fantasy metal weapon with skill and attribute boosts.

As he relaxed on his bed studying the system options a knock sounded on the door.
