"You know I'm only 16 years old right?" Lachlan asked. Although he wouldn't mind joining the military, that would have been after he completed high school. It would also be the last option as he wasn't keen on going to the front lines.

"Well this is new information to me, but it doesn't matter, in this new world only the strong survive and sure I suppose I'm strong, but you completely annihilated me," Jaylen explained. He was still annoyed at how easily defeated he was, it could be heard in his voice. But he also wanted to get a hold of Lachlan because he got annihilated so easily.

"No, I don't want to join the military yet," Lachlan explained, he still had to go to Mount Barker to meet up with his father and until then there wasn't anything that mattered.

His reply caused Jaylen to gasp, his eyes quickly burned with passion. He needs this boy to join the military, with him the military could expand on a few operations. But not only that, as he was the one to find him and bring him in, his superiors will praise him.

"And why not now?" Jaylen questioned. If he could solve the solution quickly then it wouldn't matter too much, but if he couldn't he'll try everything to get Lachlan to stay.

"Because I still have things I need to do," Lachlan explained, he didn't add any details because he thought Jaylen would stop there. He didn't.

"What things?" Jaylen asked, he needed to know more.

"Well the whole reason we're in this situation in the first place is because we want to head to the Adelaide Hills and reunite with our family. There is also the fact I'm still 16, I haven't experienced a lot of things and I certainly don't want the military to take away my freedom".

"Woah now, the military isn't going to take away your freedom, well not yours anyway," Jaylen said hurriedly. He knew that a lot of people thought that and while it did for certain people, he could convince his superiors to not restrict Lachlan due to his value.

"What do you mean by that?" Lachlan asked.

"Well yes, you are still 16 years old and we don't want to stunt any mental growth by taking away your freedom. However, we just ask that you join the military on special missions, whether it be scouting new land or rescuing important individuals," Jaylen said.

"Alright, can I still go to school?" Lachlan asked. Even though he knew school wouldn't run for a while he still wanted to complete it, he didn't want to be the only one amongst his siblings to technically be a dropout.

"Well, kind of," Jaylen stated in an unsure tone.

"What do you mean kind of? Do I get to or not?" Lachlan asked in a harsh tone.

"Well, schools have been shut down, as right now human have to focus more on survival first. But the government is looking to open military schools, that focuses more on combat training than any theory work".

"Okay, when will I be able to attend?"

"Not sure, as we haven't secured the whole city yet, we don't have the necessary room for such training. Sure we have a few combat areas in the base but those are for soldiers, the government wants the schools to have a safer environment for training and learning. So we're looking at maybe a year or two before the schools open, maybe even longer, we don't know how things will go in the future," Jaylen explained as there wasn't much he could actually do in that area.

"Alright, well until then I guess I'll go up to Adelaide Hills," Lachlan said.

"Oh before that take this," Jaylen handed Lachlan a small piece a metal that had some engraving on it. Jaylen grabbed onto Lachlan's shoulders, "This is a military insignia, keep it with you, it'll be useful when proving you're friendly to the soldiers in the hills".

Lachlan nodded before accepting the insignia and putting it in his pockets. Jaylen was a bit confused as to why Lachlan would put it in his pockets, usually you place them on your clothes and wore them with pride. He decided to point towards his own insignia on his collar.

Seeing the insignia Lachlan quickly realised his mistake and placed it on his own collar.

Jaylen nodded before walking off, heading towards his tent.

Lachlan looked towards everyone and gave a thumbs up, gesturing that they're all good.

The group quickly ran back to the tent to pack up before running to towards the field. Lachlan summoned the Rocs again, they did it in the field because this was the only safe place with a lot of room to do it.

"Alright, so we'll go outside the wall, pick up and car and fly to Mount Barker. Is that clear?" Alfredo said.

Everyone nodded, it would be a piece of cake.

They all hopped onto the birds and Lachlan got them to fly just outside the city, the soldiers were told beforehand so they didn't shoot. They quickly spotted a 7-seat car, perfect for them.

Lachlan got the Rocs to land next to it and everyone hopped in, everyone but Lachlan. He wanted to continue flying on the Rocs, he did feel fairly cool when he did it, not to mention he didn't want to be crammed into the car.

"Alright, just make sure you don't fall off along the same," Alfredo said jokingly, he knew it would almost be impossible for Lachlan to fall off and if he did the Rocs would be the first to react and save him.

"And you make sure you don't fall out of the car along the way," Lachlan replied in a joking manner as well. Alfredo laughed before sitting in the driver's seat, Cloe got into the passenger seat with Sarah in her arms while the boys took the rear seats.

Lachlan jumped onto Disaster. Although it would be effective to have Calamity or Catastrophe hold the car due to their strength, it would be safer to have them defending.

'Alright you three, let's go,' Lachlan said towards the Rocs.

'Yes father,' Lachlan was beginning to get used to them calling him father, even though he really wasn't. It reminded him of his situation, although he didn't believe Darius was his father after years of calling him that it didn't feel right to suddenly change it.

Disaster lifted the car off the ground easily. With its current strength, it could fly for a while even with the car, long enough to reach Mount Barker at least.

Calamity and Catastrophe flew by the car's side, constantly turning their heads to survey to the environment for any surprise attacks. Fortunately, along their travels, not much happened. A few spiders attempted to attack them but they were out of their reach.

There were even a few birds that attacking them but they were easily dispatched by Calamity and Catastrophe. Unfortunately, neither of the birds levelled up. Catastrophe was understandable since he was max, but Calamity felt annoyed that he still wasn't the same level.

After flying for half an hour they finally reached Mount Barker.

Looking down they saw a mostly destroyed town, in some parts, houses were barely standing. Beasts corpses also laid in those houses, it looked as though there were some rough fights within the town. Looking around they quickly noticed the schools, as they were in the best condition, not to mention the soldiers constantly patrolling the area.

They saw one school that had the most soldiers, the school had some unique paintings on the sides of its walls. There was a guy playing the guitar, a girl doing what seems to be chemistry and another girl that looks to be absorbing knowledge.

Looking down on towards the hockey oval they noticed a group of soldiers standing there motioning for them to come down.

As they began their descent the soldiers opened up to make room for someone to walk in front, most likely the commander here.

Looking at him Lachlan didn't think much, but after analysing him he was a bit surprised.

--------------------------------------------------------

He was the strongest person he's come across so far, and although Lachlan knew he was stronger in terms of stats, he neither had the experience nor control to go along with it. Should they fight, unless he relies on the Rocs he may be defeated.

But even if he relies on the Rocs just through the sheer number of beasts this person has Lachlan could easily be overrun and defeated. It would be wise to not piss this person off, especially if all they were doing was giving a warm welcome.

However, after getting closer to him he realised that this person has picked up some spider characteristics.

Although he's trying to hide them with a cloth, spider fangs can be clearly seen. His eyes were also really unique as it looked as though his pupils have been multiplied, each looking at different areas around him.

They finally reached the ground and hopped off, walking towards the person that seemed to be the leader here.

Once Lachlan got closer he sized Adam up, realising that there were a few other characteristics he didn't notice before. There was his hair as well, although it seemed like normal black hair within further inspection they seemed to spikey, they also had a small but noticeable purple tip, they were likely poisonous.

"Hello there! And welcome to the Mount Barker military base," He said, with a voice that sounded very mellow and elegant. A bright smile was on his face, he gave off a very welcoming a gentle appearance even though he looked partially spider.
