"Done…"

A trio could be seen to exit a bookstore, located on the right side of Jake's shop. A medium-sized nameplate was hanging on the side of the door, <Thousand Pages>.

Their exit was accompanied by the clear sound of a bell as the door behind them closed itself. Afterward, they entered a newly built building beside the bookstore.

"Thank you, Kana. It was a great idea."

Kana nodded. However, her face doesn't ease up but instead, looked more serious.

"Jake, this is only the beginning. We still have lots to do before you can actually open the shop. First, you need manpower. I've already asked my friend and she agrees to come over on the day before your grand opening. But, she can only cover as a cashier downstairs. What are you going to do about the others? You are producing your own product right?"

"Yeah, I understand. As of now, I need a skilled cook, an alchemist, a tailor, and a blacksmith. My product will be based on those professions."

Kana took out a small notebook out of nowhere and jolted down a list for Jake's request.

"Oh, make that 2 cooks. I need to split their shift. I plan to open the guild for 24 hours. The requirements are simple. They need to pass my interview and become a guild member of the guild. Age and background don't matter. I can even provide a place to live for them."

Jake's decision was made based on the hidden truth behind the workshop. It turned out, the entrance to the workshop was connected by a space magic to a faraway place. The deep sea painting was actually a hint to the location of the workshop. It was located deep inside the Bermuda Triangle, a place famous for its mysterious disappearance.

Sylphy's explanation shocked Jake. As a person who lived in the original Earth, Jake's impression of Bermuda Triangle has reached a new level.

The long corridor behind the portal was meant as a connector to the different section of the workshop. It included a living quarter for guild members related to the production. In fact, the requirements were set by Sylphy for the guild's safety.

As for the actual third floor inside the building? It was meant as a disguise the workshop. In truth, a familiar room was present on the third floor. It was remarkably similar to Jake's current house.

"Jake, which one do you need urgently? I'll try to ask around if there's someone interested in the job."

Lee, who was silent until now finally spoke up. His connection was the largest amongst the people present.

"The cook! At least one of them, I need him to cover the night shift. The second would be the alchemist to help me produce those potions. That will be our main product at the early stage. Hm… A blacksmith would also be nice."

Unlike Kana, Lee didn't take out any notes and simply nodded his head.

"When do you plan your grand opening?"

"I will do it as soon as I ran out of ingredients. I think it will take around a week if I work non-stop. I'll contact you guys."

"Alright!"

The discussion continued for another hour before they bid farewell to Jake, giving him some spare time to produce the potions for the grand opening.

CLING CLING

A clear sound of the bell rang out across the cafeteria on the second floor. Its sound was unique and noticeably different from the bell next door.

"Welcome"

Jake, who was relaxing at the counter was alerted by the sound and turned towards its source. However, he had a smile on his face, clearly expecting the guest to enter the shop.

There were two figures who entered Jake's shop. The first one who entered the building was a familiar figure with a long black hair. Kana was leading the other figure inside the building.

The figure's build was a bit similar to Kana as she also had long black hair. However, she had them tied up in a pigtail. She wore an excited smile on her face as she entered the shop in a hurry.

"Come on, Mari. Can't you stay still for a minute?"

Kana made a grabbing motion but failed to catch Mari with her fair hands. Mari looked around the shop, amazed by its beautiful decoration.

"Haha… Its okay, Kana"

Jake had a warm smile on his face. Actually, he was quite fond of Mari's personality through their first impression. A cheerful and cute young lady. It has been a long time since he encountered one of similar type. The residents in Aestes were mostly filled with despair and worry about their uncertain future.

Besides, it was a welcomed personality as the shop's front face. Mari will, after all, be the one who received the customers in his place.

Kana shook her head in defeat. She and Jake waited for Mari to calm down and approach them on her own accord.

"Hehe, I'm sorry… I got too excited. Tee hee."

"Really! That's why people think that you're a pushover."

Kana raised her voice in response to Mari's cute acting. She was genuinely worried for her due to this personality of hers.

Jake watched the exchange between the two friends with a smile. Soon, they remembered Jake's existence and turned towards him. Mari, too, performed a proper greeting and bowed towards Jake.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Ushioda Mari. Kana's roommate and best friend!"

The introduction was quick and simple. However, Jake could make out some of Mari's personality through that alone.

In Jake's opinion, Mari was an honest and simple girl who cherishes her relationship with people, especially with Kana for an unknown reason. As for how much he was correct, he didn't know.

"Hello, I am also Kana's best friend. The name is Jake Atkins"

Jake meant it as a small joke to ease up their relationship. However, Mari glared at him for a moment before revealing a large smile. It seems that she took pride in the relationship she has with Kana.

The first meeting of the two ended in an unspectacular way. Jake was feeling a bit awkward and talked to Mari about her job description and the shop's tour. It was limited to the first and second floor of the building. There was no need to show her the workshop as she could operate the <DSS> on the first floor to restock the supplies.

Jake taught her how to operate the <DSS>. As expected, she was amazed by the miraculous object and played with it for some time. It was a wonder why her previous boss didn't get mad at her for snooping around his or her business.

The last but not least, Jake brought up the matter of the sole condition of the employment. It was to register Mari as part of the guild. Fortunately, she agreed without many thoughts. Kana must have informed her beforehand.

The registration process was a beautiful and brand new experience for Mari. She stared at the contract until it vaporized to nothing. Mari's cheerful smile had a bit of worried look but she soon shook her head to dismiss the thoughts.

Actually, Mari was against the idea of entering Jake's guild and wanted to reject Kana's help. However, she decided to put her trust on her sole best friend. The guild's condition written on the contract was also simple and easy to understand.

"The shop will officially start its business tomorrow morning. Don't be late."

"Aye aye, Boss!"

Mari was saluting towards Jake in a carefree disposition. The smile on her face gave Jake a reassuring feeling. However, the cheerful mood was messed up a particular sound…

GRUMBLE

Mari's face turned red at the unexpected sound coming out of her stomach while the others are laughing and amused by the unexpected turn of events.

"Sit down. I'll make us some lunch before you go. I only have little ingredients, so please bear with me."

Mari sat down at lightning speed at Jake's words. The action was cute in Jake's eyes as she was too honest to herself and Jake felt amused because of it. However, that was not the case from Kana's perspective.

Kana's face also turned bright red at Mari's shameless behavior and put her head down. She was feeling a bit embarrassed towards Jake.

*

The meal was served after a short while. It was a simple egg dish, the Fluffy Omelet, which he mastered some time ago. Unfortunately, Jake didn't have any money leftovers to spend on food recipes.

Mari didn't say anything that caused Kana to feel even more embarrassed. It was mainly due to the pleasant smell of the Fluffy Omelet, which penetrates her nostrils and increased her appetite.

At the instant the piece omelet entered Mari's mouth, her face showed great delight and gobbled up the remaining omelet on the plate. Kana was better at controlling her emotion and ate in silence. However, the spoon in her hands never stopped moving.

The two drank a glass of water after the meal with a flushed face. Jake giggled at the scene.

"Oh yeah, Kana. How about the thing I asked you about?"

"Ahem... I've already made an account on Instagram for the shop. I posted some photos of the product you gave me and the recruitment for the jobs. The page already has 300+ followers for a week but most are probably our friends from university. I have also posted the recruitment in several others website for more efficiency. However, there's still no positive answer for any of the recruitment."

RING RING

The moment Kana finished her sentence, her phone rang. She saw that it was an unregistered number. Jake gave the gesture to go ahead and accept the phone.

Kana nodded and put it on a speaker phone.

"Hello…"

"Ah, it's connected… come here you rascal."

"Mom!"

The phone lets out a series of unidentified voice.

"Is it still connected?… Ah hello… I'm sorry for making you wait."

"Yes, may I know who is calling?"

"My name is Michelle Craig. I want to ask about the detail of the job you posted on the Press?"

"Oh yes, thank you for calling. Which position would you like to apply for?"

"It's not me who is applying. I'm asking in behalf of my son. His name is Adam Craig. He is good at cooking."

Jake's eyes sparkled at the word "cooking". The call came at the perfect time. In his excitement, he told Kana to give a rough explanation and come here for an interview.

"See, son? Someone appreciate your talent!"

The call for an interview came as a huge shock to the pair of mother and son. Jake was feeling a bit of pity when he heard Michelle's words. She was clumsy enough to not turn off the phone before making such remarks.

The bickering between the two started again.

CLING CLING

The bell in the cafeteria rang once again. This time, Jake welcomed two unfamiliar figure. One was a large woman in her early 40s, holding the hands of a young man. The woman had a large smile on her face while the man was frowning.

Mari has already gone home to prepare for tomorrow. In her place, Lee was present after his afternoon class. Coincidentally, Kana was free for the whole day, so she hangs out to help Jake arrange the shop.

"Good evening, I'm Michelle Craig and this is my son, Adam Craig. I believe I called earlier today."

"Ah, yes. Good evening. My name is Ishida Kana, the one who spoke to you earlier. This is the owner of the place, Jake Atkins."

"Hello, Nice to meet you."

Jake and Kana reached out their hands for a handshake. Michelle took both of their hands with enthusiasm but Adam stared blankly at them.

"Beautiful…", He whispered in a small voice.

"Hm? Sorry…?"

Kana moved closer towards the young man. Despite his western features, Adam was unexpectedly short, similar to Kana's height. The sudden movement from Kana caused him to lean backward in surprise.

"Ack!"

"Aish, What are you doing Adam?… I'm really sorry"

"Haha, It's okay."

At that moment, a sound of a door opening could be heard from a distance. It was Lee, coming out of the toilet with a surprised look. He didn't expect to see anyone else besides Jake and Kana. Soon, he exchanged greeting with Michelle and Adam.

The additional explanation for the job was simple. It was to cook the menu served at the cafeteria. They talked about the requirements, salary, and work hours. Michelle looked satisfied with other requirements except for one. It was to become a guild member for Jake's guild. It seemed that she has personal problems regarding the matter.

However, it was practically the only requirements besides the work hours and salary for Jake's shop. He didn't plan to break that requirement no matter what.

Adam, on the other hand, made a 180-degree change in attitude. He showed the eagerness to start working immediately and even begged his mother to let him enter Jake's guild. It was a wonder to Jake as to why he changed that much.

In the end, Michelle agreed with the conditions.

"I don't want to doubt your ability but I have a strict evaluation for the food I serve in this place. I want you to show me your ability."

"Great, what do I need to do?"

"Simple. I will make an omelet using this egg as the main ingredients. I want you to replicate the taste and texture of the menu. I will give you 3 chances. Can you do it?"

"Hmph… Of course! It's just a simple omelet."

Michelle tugged Adam shirt to warn him of his language. However, Jake seemed to not mind the attitude as he moved behind the kitchen.

Kana, who has tasted Jake's omelet had a large smirk on her face. It was indeed a challenge to replicate Jake's omelet. Even she, who loves to cook could only look up to him. She even feels pity for the guy.

After a few minutes, Jake's omelet was ready and served in front of the pair of mother and son. He made five portions for each of them. It was almost dinner time, so he figured that Lee and Kana must be getting hungry too. Jake felt a bit bad for Kana since she would eat the same dish for both lunch and dinner. However, Kana was actually looking forward to it.

Adam's face turned bright as he ate the omelet served to him. However, it soon turned grim.

"This…"

"Now it's your turn. I'll give you the recipe for it."

Michelle was worried when she saw the look on Adam's face. She also ate Jake's omelet so she understood just how amazing Jake's dish is. It was the best omelet she had in her whole life.

Adam walked behind the kitchen with heavy steps. He read the recipe and was absorbed into it. Thirty minutes passed before he took an egg into his hand.

Michelle was sweating profusely in worry. They desperately need the job and could only hope on her son.

The first batch of omelets was finished and served in front of Jake, Lee, and Kana. Adam only made one portion as requested by Jake.

Judging by the shape and color, the omelet was extremely similar to Jake's. However, Kana and Lee knew at the instant they placed a piece of omelet in their mouth. It was far from Jake's level. The level of fluffiness and sweetness was worlds apart.

However, Jake had a smile on his face. It's not that he found it satisfactory, but he knew that the kid has the potential. Jake only shook his head in denial and gave a small instruction for Adam to try again.

Michelle felt the heart stopped when Jake shakes his head. She forgot that there's still two more chance before the final evaluation.

The second omelet was served. This time, Jake was surprised as Adam was actually able to replicate Jake's taste to that extent. Kana and Lee were also nodding their head in delight. However, Jake still shook his head in denial.

"It's not quite there…."

The last chance. Jake was expecting something from Adam as he instructed him as he cooked the omelet. However, he promised himself to let Adam go if he still couldn't get it right even after his instruction.

Fortunately, that didn't happen.

"Whoa!"

Kana and Lee exclaimed in surprise at the perfect taste of the omelet. It was the exact copy of Jake's cooking. Michelle burst in excitement at her son's successful employment.

Jake was wearing a bitter smile on his face. It was a bit unfair to him who practiced for more than 10 hours to get it right but found someone who could do it in three tries. Although, it was a great news.

"It will be a pleasure working with you."

Jake extended his hand as the closure of the deal and employment.

"Yeah! I think I will learn a lot from this place."

Adam took Jake's hand with a large smile. He thought that this job was similar to his previous jobs but it wasn't. The owner's skill was the real deal.

Michelle was relieved to see the smile on her son's face.
