The man who was sat, shrouded in darkness even though it was broad daylight, opened his eyes after his subordinate left.

His eyes were as dark as midnight. Deep and mysterious as the sea. Luring both women and men alike to sudden death. His voice was as pleasant as a lullaby to a crying child. His charms and seductiveness could not be hidden either.

For the same day every year, he would sit in the dark room, staring into nothing.

Those who had worked under him for a few years knew about it, at first they found it strange. Over time they grew accustomed to it. It has become normal.

That man would sit in the windowless room, without any light for exactly twenty-four hours, without food or sleep.

One would wonder how he could remain awake in a dark, quiet and cold place for a day without trying to communicate with others or eating. It was more surprising he didn't fall asleep.

That man was actually keeping watch.

Amongst his men, no one was privy to the reason for the day. Furthermore, he did not try to stop his subordinates from seeing him on that particular day. Some assumed it was his rest day, since he worked tirelessly all year round. Some assumed he was mourning.

That man was actually the King of the underworld in the country. Asides the fact he was not even forty, no one new of his origins. There were rumours that he was the last of the Blanc's. But if that were true, he should have been killed by the government. Seeing they let him do as he pleased, till he had the whole underworld under his grasp, he probably had connections on the other side.

At any rate, his powers rivaled the aristocratic families. They probably could not act inappropriately without fear of repercussions.

He had countless foes. Ranging from those who sought to take over his rulership to those who simply wanted revenge for what he did to them.

All wishful thinking, if they could take him down, they would have done so a long time ago.

His position as King, made him privy to every little movement related to the underworld, including Stallone Blackwood.

Carl had assumed his hidden power was indeed hidden, that wasn't the case. The king had eyes everywhere. In every city, in every slum, including high society. His network of information was truly vast.

Unknown to Carl, his enemy was the King himself. How could he possibly guard against that?

Somehow, the king did not really have a need for a watch as his body could immediately tell when the twenty-four hours mark had gone by.

Though he appeared all powerful and his name incited fear, he was a lonely man. His family were his subordinates. With the passing of time, he began to question why he accumulated such power. He did not need such power to exact his revenge.

Yes, revenge, that was the only thing that kept him moving. He had no cause to breath except for revenge. To destroy those that took away everything he had.

As if sensing that it was truly over, he exited the room.

"Have you had lunch?" The familiar gruff voice questioned. Carl who was immersed in his work immediately raised his head. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click for visiting.

He willed himself not to reply sarcastically or show contempt, "Soon."

"Let's go." He said, moving away. Leaving Carl no option than to follow. He scanned his work and shut down the computer.

Following behind Chamberlain like his secretary. Arriving just outside the company, his driver alighted the car, handing Carl the keys. To which Carl gave him a questioning glance, he gestured to their boss.

Chamberlain sat shotgun, while Carl made his way around to the driver's seat. "Where to?" He asked.

"Blue Bell."

He started the car, and the bodyguards behind did the same. He wondered when he became his driver. He took a glance at the man who sat next to him. His eyes were on the road. He exuded confidence and nobility that people normally found attractive to which Carl scorned.

"You might want to set your eyes on the road." Advised Chamberlain.

"Not that I mind you looking at me," he added.

Carl straight way concentrated on driving whilst Chamberlain chuckled.

On reaching the Hotel, they made their way to the five-star restaurant.

"Welcome, Gentlemen, do you have a reservation?" A man politely asked.

Chamberlain made eye contact with him, immediately he bowed, then led them to a private room.

Carl assumed a bored expression throughout the transaction. Why did he have to eat with him. Was he so bored? He slowed down, giving them space when the voice came again, "Walk with me."

Carl rolled his eyes before making his way to Chamberlain.

Inside the room, there were all kinds of food on the table. There were three seats which indicated there was a third person. Chamberlain unbuttoned his jacket before sitting down. He motioned for Carl to take a seat, "I'm not sure your preferences so I ordered a lot. Let's eat while we wait."
