A weekwent by in a blur. Kim and Carl were simply co-existing. It was finally time for Kim to return to school.

Although it was time, she felt leaving would only increase the distance between them. Frankly speaking, that's not what she wanted. She wanted to get closer to him but he would return late from work then when he wasn't at work, he was working in the basement, she could only watch from a distance. Too scared to approach him. Too scared to distract him from his work.

Finally Sunday afternoon arrived. School would officially resume on Monday and she should have been to school to settle some things but she used the excuse of her shoulder to remain at home while Isabella ran errands for her.

Isabella only agreed so she could see Carl again. Unfortunately, he returned home late because of Chamberlain so there was no meeting him. But at least she was closer to his "sister".

"Aren't you returning to school?" Carl asked as he found it strange.

She smiled, "You don't want me to stay?"

Ever since he said he would get over her, he had become more honest and no longer walked on eggshells around her.

"It's up to you to do whatever you want." He said nonchalantly.

He was so relaxed resting in the little garden overwatching the pond.

Kim felt her heart prick. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

Recently, life had been good to him. Even though Chamberlain still teased him, Lena was there so he could take his revenge.

May be because he buried himself in work, he did not feel that heartbroken. He did not eat alone either, as Chamberlain always brought him along to eat with Lena.

Unlike he assumed, he was doing pretty well. Kim on the other hand wasn't. She felt suffocated in the big house.

She watched dramas all day when she got tired of reading her books. She did nothing else. The cooking and cleaning was left to some other lady who came thrice a week.

While she was constantly referred to as his sister, it appeared he had indeed gotten over her and she was mad at herself and him too. She felt he was really fickle to get over her so easily.

"You really don't care, do you?" She muttered.

"No matter what I say, you already have your opinion so does it even matter?" He asked not sparing her a glance. His eyes were focused on the fish in the pond.

Kim did not understand his thoughts anymore.

His path was blocked as she stood in front of him. "What now?" He asked.

She folded her arms, "Why do you treat me like this?"

Puzzled, he asked, "Like?"

"Like I don't exist."

He raised his brows, "Seriously? When did I do that?"

"We don't talk like before. You return home late. When you're at home, you're either here on in your silly basement." She ranted.

He sighed, "I'm busy at work and I still have my company to run, I told you, didn't I? Besides, I'm tired."

"Are you saying, I'm making you tired?"

"Don't twist… sure whatever you say." He gave up explaining halfway because he felt it was useless.

Her voice revealed her frustration, "Just like this… before now, you'd always explain…" Her eyes began itching as she spoke. Even her chest tightened. She felt he was being unfair to her.

"Well, before now, I was constantly worried about how you'd react so I wasn't really open with you. Now I understand that my explanation doesn't matter to you."

Kim saw his bored expression, "Maybe I should leave."

For a brief moment he looked at her before turning away.

She could not hide the fact that his words hurt her, "You won't try to stop me?"

"What exactly do you want? When you figure that out, we'll talk again."

"I want you."

Carl acted like he heard nothing.

"Let's try to fix our relationship." Kim persuaded.

"There's nothing between us, what is there to fix?"

"Why are you being so difficult? It's so hard for me right now and you aren't helping.

I… just give me a chance to…"

"To do what? Hurt me again? I don't see why you're doing all these when you don't love me.

Let's say we return to how we were, how do I cope then? I can't take it anymore. If you can't be mine, it's fine but we can never return to the way we were."

Kim sat next to him and took his hands, "What is love? How do you know you're in love?"

Carl was quiet as he wasn't sure what to say. 'What is love,' he pondered.

"Tell me if what I feel for you is love….

When I wake up, you're the first person on my mind. Whenever I can't see you, I miss you. When I'm with you, it's hard to control myself. I want to be one with you the only way I know how."

Carl tightened his hands around hers. His heart shook because he felt the same way as her. He just wasn't sure why she would want to hurt him if she truly loved him. "If you can't say you love me, that means you doubt it. You don't believe you do."
