Carl whisked her into his arms as he took her into his room. He gently placed her on the bed then covered her with a blanket.

"Rest, let me go get us food," he whispered.

Next he got up. At the same time she held his wrist, "Aren't you curious?" Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

He sighed before sitting down, "I am. I want to know everything about you. While this may be true, I do not want to force you to open up to me."

Kim nodded in understanding.

"Promise me," she sniffled, "that you won't leave me after hearing my story."

Her eyes though cautious were hopeful.

Carl pushed her hair aside before planting a lingering kiss on her forehead.

If ever there was a doubt, his kiss made an end to her hesitation.

"I'm not sure where to start… it's going to be a long story why don't you lie down with me?"

Her low voice was enchanting. Instantaneously, he lifted the blanket and laid beside her.

A few seconds after he laid by her side, her eyes shifted as she stared into oblivion. Carl on the other hand, observed her.

"When… I mean it's a really long time ago but for as long as I can remember, what I was told is that I was abandoned at the door of the orphanage.

It's a pretty common occurrence. My mother may have gotten pregnant out of wedlock. Or she may have been a teenager too and she could not take care of me, so she left me at the orphanage to have a better chance at surviving.

Or may be, she did not even want me. It's also a possibility that she's dead. Whatever the case may be, I was abandoned.

Sometimes I can't help but think if she didn't want me, why didn't she just have an abortion. And then sometimes I make up some really dumb excuse as to why I was left at the door.

I really don't know why I'm searching for her too. May be, her side of the story might elevate the pain her absence caused. It might also be that I would be better off not knowing them too."

As she spoke tears ran down her eyes uncontrollably. She was trying to keep her emotions in check but the matter of her family has always been a sore spot.

Meanwhile, Carl did not have experience consoling someone so he was unsure of what to do. Remain silent? Add his opinion? Rub her back?

He wasn't sure, yet he wanted her to stop crying. If the past is too painful, maybe it would be better to forget. He really wanted to know her story but more than that, he did not want her to cry.

His mind began to race for a solution but he had none.

Kim sniffled once more, "What do you think? Should I search for those who abandoned me? Isn't that like asking to get hurt?"

She really wasn't hoping for Carl to answer her question cause either way, she had made up her mind to find them and ask them nothing but why.

That's if her father is identifiable. And also not a rapist. May be she was a product of rape. May be searching for her mother would cause her pain. It might also be that she was nothing but a product of an illicit affair.

As these thoughts ran through her head, it began to ache but she was determined not to let it stop her from talking to Carl.

She knew if time passed, she might not be able to tell her story to him or anyone else for that matter.

As if sensing her discomfort, he rubbed her head, causing her to relax. Kim snuggled into his embrace. She sniffed him like the drug she was becoming addicted to.

Like a drug, he gave her the much needed peace.

Carl smiled at the little lady in his arms, how much adorable could she get?

Cheekily, he asked, "Satisfied?"

Although tears were running down her face, she chuckled sweetly.

The sound of her laughter was a melody to his heart.

"I don't think I can ever get enough." She beamed. "Anyway, don't distract me." She lightly scolded while her hands held onto his.

"What I'm saying is, my mother may be a hooker, my father a rapist. Or they did not like me at all and decided to do away with me. And it hurts whenever I think of this. But there's still this part of me that wishes that it may not be as bad as I think. May be I was lost too." She continued with darkened eyes.

Carl silently caressed her hair like the good listener he was.

"Your background doesn't matter to me." He stated.

He believed he had to make that known to her. The way he felt about her was above anything else. And things like background did not matter. His father was worse than a thug and a common thief. Besides, he had already been ousted. How could he complain about background?

As long as they were good people, he was ready to pull both sides together. Their background was of no effect.
