At the Capital,

"Young miss."

The call from a maid startled Hallie. She was too engrossed in sketching that she failed to notice when the maid walked in. She hurriedly tried to cover up her drawing but the maid had already seen her designs.

Her eyes danced with excitement when she saw the sketches. Worry clouded Hallie's eyes as she quickly hid her sketchbook.

This was supposed to be her little secret and her way of escape and now she had unknowingly given herself out.

The maid politely asked, "Young miss, those are…?"

Her question made Hallie panicky, "None of your business."

Her aggressiveness stunned the maid because she had never seen her like this before.

Well, it could not be helped, it was her lifeline and those of her kids.

Her dream was actually fashion designing but her father had felt it was not worth anything so he refused to send her to a fashion designing school.

But even without schooling, it was her innate skill, her talent, she had always had a flare for fashion designing.

Her plan of escaping involved setting up her own brand without the knowledge of the Blackwood family. She had been secretly sketching for months and now, she was caught by someone. The thought that she had been exposed riled her.

"You…." Hallie was lost for words. She did not really have the power to threaten the maid, what could she do?

Hallie's hand around her sketchbook tightened, she inquired, "What is your name?"

"My name is Emily."

"Emily…." Hallie muttered still trying to figure out her course of action.

Hallie almost resorted to begging if not that the maid was smart enough to understand her.

Emily gave a warm smile, "Your secret is safe with me."

Hallie remained cautious after hearing her. She did not think she could trust anybody in the Blackwood family.

Considering people never do things without a catch, Hallie searched her, "What do you want?"

Emily's brows furrowed.

Just as she was about to respond, another maid walked in, "Young miss, dinner is served."

"I'll be right there," Hallie assured. Then the maid walked out leaving them behind.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

Hallie gave her the eye, "we-will-talk-about-this-later," before hiding her sketchbook under her dress. Then she left the room.

...

Still within the capital,

Ryan's stay with his grandparents had improved his health. Even the situation with his mother seemed minute as his grandparents showered him with love.

He had even picked up cooking from his grandmother and he found it rather enjoyable.

"Grandma, look what a made!" He sang as he made his way to his mother with a tray.

As she picked up the meal to try, Ryan looked at her with expectation. He was a little bit nervous still he was awaiting his grandmother to sing him praises.

Her care and attention had become some sought of stimulant for him.

He did not need to beg for it or even work so hard for it, it came naturally.

Still he enjoyed the attention he received from her. She was always attentive to his needs unlike his mother.

She closed her eyes and revelled in the taste of the food, "How delicious," she praised as she picked up another spoonful.

Ryan felt she was exaggerating but he did not mind her bias, he loved it. As she savoured the food, he patiently waited for more praises.

"My boy, did you taste the food?"

He shook his head.

"Then is there more?"

"Yes, grandma."

Without more words, she pulled Ryan into the kitchen, "Why don't you taste it yourself?"

As she spoke she was already eating.

Ryan tasted his own cooking, "It's nice, I guess." He said with his head lowered while rubbing his neck.

"Guess? It's very delicious and flavourful."

Her words were like honey. Ryan could not help but blush in embarrassment.

"You think so?" He asked, both happy and unsure.

She nodded, "Of course!"

"I did not have much appetite lately but your food has made me hungry for more. What do you think about being a chef?"

As a simple woman, she did not think it was shameful for him to open up his own restaurant and personally cook for people.

His parents would think otherwise though. Especially his mother, Ryan was her hope for the Blackwood wealth, how could he stoop so low as to become a cook.

His paternal grandparents would consider him even more of an eyesore than they already do.

On the other hand, his father had lost hope for his two sons. One was a black sheep and the other was so rebellious as to leave the house.

He already had buns baking in the oven, why should he worry about the stale ones?

Ryan was a little bit surprised, "A chef? I haven't thought about that."

Before he left the Blackwood home, he knew nothing about cooking. He just loved eating delicious food. Besides, he knew his parents would never allow him bring shame to their name.

"Why don't you think about it?" His grandmother suggested while she rubbed her stomach.

Ryan's eyes dimmed as he thought of the consequences, 'Well, they don't actually care about me.'

"We could enroll you in a good culinary school." His grandma had already began planning.

Ryan pondered.
