The wedding proceeded smoothly. Chamberlain acted as expected, as for his bride, she was a ball of nerves all through the ceremony.

Whilst they entertained guests, both their fathers had more important matters to attend to. With the unification of their families, their ties were further strengthened.

Chamberlain knew his father was holding a secret meeting but he was not aware of the parties involved.

Like a robot, he moved around with his wife, greeting guests while accepting their well-wishes. Returning a word of gratitude or two from time to time.

To him, it was no different than the social gatherings and parties he was used to attending. The only thing different was the fact that he now had a wife who was clinging to his arm.

Inside a room at the venue of the wedding, five men were presently seated. Charles Stan, Mr. Hansberry, a man who appears to be a foreigner and two other unknown persons.

The meeting was a secret known to none other than those directly involved. No one was aware of their presence.

They snuck into the hotel a few days before the wedding at different times, wearing different disguises.

Apart from Charles Stan and Mr. Hansberry who were dressed for the wedding, the other three appeared to be common citizens without backgrounds.

The atmosphere was harmonious as they spoke unhurriedly while playing a game of chess. Of course, they spoke in codes, the chess board was used in communicating their plans. So it did not matter if their conversation was being recorded or not.

One can never be too careful.

After trading chess pieces for a while, Charles Stan and Mr. Hansberry returned to the wedding. Not long after the foreigner left the venue whereas the other two persons stayed behind to enjoy tea.

After the wedding, the couple returned to their room for their first night.

Lena who had been endlessly teased by her friends earlier was a bit tensed when they got to their room.

The decorations wasn't too elaborate, it was the standard red roses scattered on the bed and the floor.

They both stood by the stood, a few minutes of awkward silence went by.

Lena glanced at Chamberlain before averting her eyes quickly. The she lowered her head but she couldn't conceal how shy and embarrassed she was, as her ears were a dark red.

She had no idea what to do or how to act as she felt so awkward. Her eyes found the bathroom so she spoke up, "Let me use the bathroom, I'll be out soon."

Lena left hastily, she had to be prepared for her first time. Being sweaty was a turn off for her so she wanted to take a quick shower and also calm her nerves.

Chamberlain briefly looked at her before kicking off his shoes.

While she was gone, her husband took off his suit and changed into his pyjamas before slumping down to the bed.

He was dead tired after socializing for hours. Intentionally or not, he fell asleep as quickly as he hit the bed.

When Lena came out, she was surprised to see her husband sleeping. For a moment her eyes lowered in disappointment. She reminded herself that it was normal to be tired after having an eventful day.

May be not every couple became intimate on their first night…

Consoling herself, she dressed up and joined him.

...

The next morning when Chamberlain woke up, he found his wife in his arms.

Albeit shocked, he gently moved her aside before heading to the bathroom.

There was seemingly no need to rashly shove her aside. Besides, from the position he found himself, it was apparent he was the one embracing her and not the other way round.

After showering, he returned to the room to see Lena awake, sitting with a tray of food.

She smiled warmly at him, "I ordered breakfast, let's eat."

Chamberlain took in the scene before him then slowly nodded.

He saw no reason to reject her good intention. Thus, he sat next to her and they ate quietly.

"We got a bigger house for you both and your things have been moved already. So you can directly head there from the airport." Chamberlain's mother began.

She continued, "Ben will take you there."

"Excuse us, Lena." She said.

Lena politely responded, "Yes, mother." Concurrently, she went towards her friends waiting for her gist about her first night.

Rose Stan inquired, "So, How are you, really?"

She was well aware of the fact that her son was not comfortable with the marriage. As a parent, she wanted the best for her son. She had never seen him close to any woman.

Previously, she was concerned about his sexuality but then, he had never been close to any man either.

She was certain he only agreed to this marriage to please them.

"I'm fine mother." He gave her a comforting smile.

His mother nodded, then she turned to observe Lena. "She's a good woman. Be happy, that's all I want."

Chamberlain turned to look at Lena too. She was busy chatting with her friends when one of them glanced at her and then at Chamberlain. Lena found his eyes, then she smiled warmly at him before averting her gaze.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

He could hear her friends tease her while she blushed deeply without saying a word.

"Thank you, mother." Chamberlain smiled at his mother genuinely. Not because she said Lena was a good woman. But because his mother genuinely wanted him to be happy. It made him feel warm.
