It was difficult for Lena to hide her excitement. The more Chamberlain looked at her, the more cautious he felt.

"There's definitely something wrong with her." He added.

Carl's lips twitched, he stared at Chamberlain like he was crazy.

Unconcealed disdain flashed through his eyes, "She's normal, you're the abnormal one.

Wait! This is the reason you pulled me out of my office? There really must be something wrong with you."

"Hey! You can't talk to your boss like that." Chamberlain said, feigning anger before explaining, "She's usually stoic and doesn't smile much. Most of the time, especially when she's with me, she has her head lowered, blushing silly. Now, she's prancing around with so much confidence and a smile plastered on her face. I really don't want to talk about what happened during the weekend. Do you think someone else replaced her?"

Interest flashed through his eyes, however, he quickly covered it up. He definitely wasn't concerned. It doesn't concern him.

"Anyway, she's your problem, don't bother me anymore."

"What bother? If I don't come to you, will you even remember to have lunch? I'm such a good friend and boss, you ungrateful shrew!"

As Chamberlain fussed and cussed, Carl strode away not sparing him a glance.

Then he felt a chill run down his spine, he froze. He knew who was behind him, he was about rushing away when he was grabbed by the arm.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

"Hubby, what do you want for lunch?"

"Hubby?!!!" Those words repeated in his head and all he wanted to do was run away. Since when did she start addressing him with such terms of endearment?

Chamberlain missed the days they only spoke when necessary.

Clearing his throat, he replied, "I'm fine with anything."

"Ok, I'll make a call for delivery then."

After she spoke, she did not wait even a second more before going away.

Seeing the way she did things, he had no way to rebuke her, he couldn't even tell her to stop. This point alone made him feel insecure. Everything was telling him to run away as fast as he could but at the same time, he felt glued to the spot.

"...just go collect the things from my basement, make sure no one sees you."

"Yes boss! When will you return to work?"

"Not now, just keep going according to the plan, I'll join you soon."

This was the conversation Chamberlain stumbled upon when he went to call Carl for lunch.

Although he did not hear what the person on the line said, he clearly heard everything Carl said.

He stood by the door that was slightly ajar wondering what the call was about.

"Make sure no one sees you…"

"...according to the plan."

"I'll join you soon…"

He was not sure if it was something private or something to be wary of.

After Carl hung up, Chamberlain waited a few seconds before entering into his office.

"Let's have lunch," he smiled warmly.

To his surprise, Carl's expression did not change a bit. He wasn't sure if it's because it wasn't a secret or if Carl did not notice he overheard his conversation.

He decided not to pry.

"Must we have lunch together? Go eat with your wife."

To think he would have gotten used to eating lunch with them.

"She brought home cooked food for you too, don't waste her efforts, let's go."

Carl had no option but to honour the invite.

Over at the King's base.

The King had been too busy recently he did not have the time to "remind" Carl of his presence.

He had just returned from a meeting concerning the changes within the state.

Through the meeting he was able to confirm his suspicions so he decided he would not let the Stans continue to do as they liked. That was what the elders decided anyway.

Part of the responsibility of ensuring people stayed in their place was on his shoulders. Being the dog of the Council of Elders was part of the price he paid to remain alive.

Yes, the rumours were correct, his father was the only surviving member of the Blanc family. He escaped with the help of his close friend. He enjoyed a peaceful life with his mother before that event that claimed the lives of his parents.

Though he had a little sister, she's currently missing. After searching for her for years without any result, she's assumed dead.

An offer came to him after killing his way through the underworld. As the only surviving member of the Blanc family, become their dog or die.

Obviously he chose to live in order to find his sister even if it meant working for those that ended his line.

As he worked directly under the Council, he had powers that was only below theirs therefore he had more resources than the biggest aristocratic family.

He had put plans in motion to make sure the Stans behaved… or cause their backer to abandon them.

Chamberlain had no idea what was coming for him. In fact, the Stans had no idea what was coming.

They had been too careless. They should have retreated when they found out he noticed their movement.

The King wrapped up a package using a gift wrap, the contents unknown. After which he asked his subordinates to deliver the package to Carl in a way that he couldn't ignore.

His subordinate did exactly that.
