Carl returned home late. After having dinner, he went to his room to shower when he saw a package on his bed.

Ordinarily, no one except Kim and Allan entered the house. Allan had no reason to give him a gift without informing him so he assumed it was Kim who left it there.

Without thinking much he went to shower.

Later, he picked up the package, examining it before calling Kim.

As soon as it rang, he placed it on speaker then he began unwrapping the box.

Her raspy voice came through the speakers, "Hey…"

"Did I wake you? I'm so sorry, I'll call you later."

She hurriedly interrupted, "It's fine, how was work?"

"The usual." By then he had already uncovered the package. It contained a brown envelope.

He was about to ask her about her day when he saw the content of the brown envelope.

It was a report of everything about him including his daily routine and pictorial evidence.

With the words, "You can't hide from me".

His hands trembled. He felt suffocated, trapped in the palm of another.

"Who could it be?"

"Why?"

These questions ran in his head repeatedly like a broken record.

The few people that had grudges against him problem won't try to scare him this way. His father, stepmother… maybe Chamberlain but he doubted he would this.

Carl was lost in thought for a few seconds. Her voice snapped him out, "You still there?"

"Uh Huh.. I'll call you tomorrow." With those words, he hung up.

He took the detailed report, dumped it in the trash before lighting them up. As he watched them burn, his heart oddly calmed.

Out of sight, out of mind…?

To think they got into the apartment was something...

It was a huge residential district that did not let people in only with the permission of residents.

So how did they get in? His door has a passcode, does that mean they know it or they hacked it?

He hacked into the CCTV, turns out, it was damaged since the previous day.

How thoughtful of them.

It only meant they were powerful.

That night, Carl did not know how he fell asleep but the next morning when he woke up, he acted like nothing happened.

He went to work as usual, bantered with Chamberlain, had lunch with the couple and returned home.

He did not want to let his enemy torture him. Seeing as that is their plan.

To make him feel unsafe in his own home.

Though he was scared, panicked, frustrated, he did not let it show.

Why play their games?

He remained as aloof as ever, even though he was aware he was being watched.

"What was their purpose?"

"Who did he offend?"

He had no answer to the questions that plagued his mind.

At King's base,

"His handling things well," the king spoke as he heard about Carl's reaction.

"He still did not go to the police?" He asked.

His first subordinate answered, "He understands they can't help him. Besides, it isn't the Blackwood territory, neither is it the capital."

The King chuckled softly. The sound of his laughter was melodic and at the same time creepy. The kind of creepy you can't help but be drawn to.

Then he rhetorically asked, "Should we play with him more?"

Of course, he felt death was too Swift and easy for him.

He would continue to make him feel so small and powerless until he messed with his sanity.

"Not enough to cause a heart attack, just enough to damage him psychologically, slowly but surely… or is that too harsh?" He laughed maniacally.

He wasn't asking for their opinion, he was just saying the things he could do, the things he will do.

"After dealing with the Stans, I want you to do just that, don't harm him physically though, I'll do that myself."

His subordinates were used to these sought of things so they remained unfazed.

It's just that they were unsure how and why Carl became his target.

"Yes boss!"

The King waved them away.

Like eunuchs to their King, they slowly backed away.

A week later at the office,

Chamberlain has almost gotten used to his wife's care and appreciation even though it had scared him at first.

It was something he had never experienced before.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

The attention, the appreciation, the care made him feel good that he began considering that marriage wasn't so bad after all.

Maybe trying to avoid it in the first place was a mistake.

Just that morning, he had woken up to his wife's kisses.

She kissed his forehead and cheeks before running away because she was caught in action.

At first he was startled, then, oddly enough he found her a little bit cute.

Having a companion wasn't bad after all…

Who else asked about his day, work and his interest. These days the conversation seem to flow and never stop.

He had to admit that at first, he only replied politely because he didn't want to be rude but now, he genuinely enjoyed talking to her.

Never for the life of him would he have thought that his wife was talkative or interesting.

As he was reminiscing, she stepped into his office, she smiled warmly at him, "Lain."

Well, that was what she called him now, and he liked the way she said it.

He thought, "Just the person I was waiting for."

"I came to check on you, I was about calling for lunch, what would you like?"

As she took out her phone, he held her hands, "Let's go out for lunch today."
