"To S. Blackwood, I thought I'd give you a little surprise." Carl stared at the message for a long time. When he arrived at the base, both Allan and Allen where injured, he also received messages from his men in the other states stating their leaders where attacked and injured. The fact that they only attacked the team leaders made him understand that they knew about his team. The most surprising was the letter, it confirmed that the person who did it, knew him.

He also received messages from the hotel managers that a group of persons stirred up trouble in the hotels. Another fact was that they all happened at the same time. He was hit from every angle. His only relief was that no one died. It seems who ever was responsible was simply warning him. He looked at the letter before him again, there was no finger print and no name, it wasn't handwritten or typed either, just letters glued to the cardboard.

All his life, he was mostly alone so he was sure he didn't anger anyone enough to attack him like this. Asides his step-mother, he could swear no one hated him to this extent. He was sure his step-mother wasn't responsible for his loss today, this scared him even more. He was out in the open while he knew nothing about his enemy. Is it just one person? A group of persons? Male or female? Absolutely nothing. Yet his enemy was aware of his businesses, he was aware of the teams he sent out to scout the other states.

There was no expression on his face so no one could tell what he was thinking but deep with him was a storm, he was trapped in the eye of the storm without so much of an escape plan. What should he do? What could he possibly do? Where to start from? He was glad that nothing happened to both Kim and Ryan and even Glass Security.

"Get me a pen and a book." He said solemnly to no one in particular. One of his subordinates hurriedly brought him what he asked for. Clicking the pen, he began thinking about possible enemies. He wasn't sure how long passed yet he couldn't come up with anything. His father? No, he was sure his father wasn't aware of his businesses. His step-mother? From the reports, she was under house arrest. Grandparents? They have no reason to do that, so the mysterious enemy was not a member of his family.

Then he thought of his employer, Chamberlain Stan.. could it be him? But he never offended him. Seeing he wasn't making any progress, he put down the pen. He looked at the injured brothers, "You should be in the hospital, not here." He said quietly. Allen was the first to speak up, "Boss, we can't be sure the enemy won't attack again, I think you need security to ensure your safety." Carl glanced at his injuries and then his brothers'. "Come, I'll you to the hospital myself." He said, leaving to space for argument as he walked out the room. The brothers could only follow. His action, won their hearts as they admired him more.

...

Coming back to the base, Carl looked more hopeful, although he didn't know his enemy, after this night, he realized he could not be complacent about life. What he wanted was a simple life with Kim away from his father and trouble. His dream of a simple life has moved far away from him. The only way to protect what you love, is to get stronger. "Jasper, look for leads, check every CCTV record until you come up with something. The rest of you be on high alert, we don't know who we are up against, better safe than sorry."

Once again, he scrutinized the letter, "who delivered it?" He asked. Everyone hesistated before Allen finally spoke up, "Boss.. about that.. we don't know, we only saw the letter on the walk when we came in, we didn't take it seriously since there's no S. Blackwood here.. not until we got the calls from the men in the other states and hotel."

"You mean someone walked into this building and put up that letter and no one saw him?" He looked at the people before him, he wasn't angry, he couldn't get angry at them since as their boss he couldn't even protect them from the unknown enemy targeting him. Taking deep breaths, he calmed himself. "This means we should improve ourselves, we can't boast of protecting clients when we can't protect ourselves. First of all, we'll up our security, set some restrictions before anything else. Remember to watch your backs, everyone leave except Allan, Allen and Jasper." Bowing, they quickly shuffled out.

"We know absolutely nothing about our enemy or why this enemy is targeting us, besides he knows so much, I can't vreally be sure he has no man amongst us. So, from now on, there'll be ranks for the floors and amongst us, those ranked E, will only be allowed on the ground floor, everyone would need an ID to access the floors, how long do you think it will take to implement?" Jasper who had been silent finally spoke, "It depends on efficiency, I think we should do it within the month."

"I know you have questions, I can't provide you with answers as I have none now." He said brushing off he earlier matter. "About the threat, I'm sure there's no lead, even if there is, we don't have the resources to chase after it, so forget about looking into who attacked, the enemy will reveal himself. We just need to protect what we have now." Allan nodded in understanding while Allen gritted his teeth in annoyance. Jasper's expression was unreadable. After that, he excused the trio while he sat alone in his office, contemplating.
