Stepping into a car awaiting her, second madam Blackwood immediately inquired, "Where are they right now?" She was still livid from the house arrest placed on her by her husband, finding out her son was in State A with Carl made her more indignant. The thought that her son would rather stay with her enemy than her, would trust and live with him rather than her irked her. To her, he was an ungrateful wretch who refused to side with his own mother but would eat with her enemy.

She was like a volcano, filling up for impending chaos. All her accumulated anger and pent up frustration was about to bust forth, the walls had already cracked and it was going to be dissatrous. She couldn't think properly, things at home wasn't looking better either. Her husband was keeping late nights while she was not allowed to leave the house. She had also been informed about her in-laws' insistence on a wife or mistress to birth more children for the main family since she could not carry any. All this piled up made her frustrated. Ryan who was supposed to be her pillar was frolicking with Carl.

"They are currently at the apartment, madam." The driver said, taking huge gulps of saliva, he could sense her irritated demeanor and he seriously did not want to offend her in fear of losing his job. This was his livelihood after all.

...

Kim had prepared dinner for themselves, they had only began eating admist chatter and laughter when they heard the noise by the door, someone was banging hard on it like he wanted to bring it down. Both Kim and Ryan frowned, Carl on the other hand stiffened. He had been pretending to be undisturbed by the recent attack on his underlings but right there, he began panicking. How was he to defend both Kim and Ryan when he knew nothing about fighting or even self-defense? At that moment, he regretted not learning martial arts and not protecting the apartment even after the "warning" he previously got.

'Breathe in, out,' he quietly sang to himself. Kim noticed his action, the lines on her forehead etched in. Getting up, she moved towards Carl, rubbing his back. 'Why is he so scared? Did something happen to him?' Before she could ask Ryan, he had gotten to the door.

Unconsciously, Carl gripped her hands, he wanted to scream and prevent Ryan from opening the door but it was too late. Colour drained from his face, he seemed to have grown older in the space of a few seconds. However, on seeing Judith Blackwood, his tensed shoulders relaxed, taking a deep breath, he managed to get up. All his fears disappeared like they were never there to begin with.

"Mom..." Ryan called out in a very low voice. 'What is she doing here?' He scowled. Pulling his hands, she put him behind her, rushing towards Carl, landing a slap on his delicate face. His face turned red, her palm visible on his cheek. "How dare you take my son from me?" She screamed hitting Carl on his chest continuously. Surprisingly, he didn't budge or defend himself.

Kim was furious, without waiting a second longer, she pushed Judith away, making the frigid woman land on her b-utt. "How dare you come into my home and hit my man." she retorted at the top of her lungs. She was so angry she didn't realize what she had said, on the other hand, Carl could only see her defending him and referring to him as her man. The corners of his lips turned up even though his face and chest was hurting, the pain no longer mattered.

As for Ryan who was stood by the door, he was shocked that he couldn't move his feet. He hadn't seen her for a few months, she never thought to contact him but now, she was claiming his brother stole him away from her. Watching his brother being abused because of him while he couldn't do anything annoyed him. He was supposed to have grown stronger while he was away from that family. He realized his strength was not enough to protect his dear brother from the clutches of his dear mother. If only he had stayed at his grandparents' he wouldn't have to face any of this. Carl would not have been affected, or so he thought.

Watching his mother land on the floor both scared and excited him. Scared because no matter what, he was still his mother's son. Excited because someone was willing to protect his brother, may be his mother would finally get what she deserved. As he watched with mixed expression on his face, his mind was in utter chaos. What should he do in this situation? Take his mother home? He couldn't, he was scared of the Blackwood home. Defend his brother? That would only make his mother crazy and she would blame his brother. Should he leave by himself?
