Kim nodded in acknowledgement, she had overheard some of what they talked about. She was more concerned about him because she noticed the expression on his face, she saw thankfulness but she also saw sadness. She really wanted to ask him what the problem was but she felt she had no right to since she also refused to share her past with him. Sudden realization hit her, even if she couldn't ask, she could reassure him, so she immediately rushed up to him and gave him a back hug. He was surprised then he dried his hands before turning around, embracing her. As he was taller than her, he rested his head on her hair, while inhaling her scent. 'Vanilla shampoo,' he thought. She buried her face on his chest. Pulling away, she suggested, "Let's see a movie."

Over at the capital, Brandon was in his office with Hallie accompanying him when he saw the news about the attempted robbery and shoot-out in the red district. He recalled he had sent his son there, brief worry flashed through his eyes, but that was what it was, brief. It left as quickly as it came. When he saw the victim count, from the number of dead to injured, his heart grew sour. He did not really care about the souls that perished or those injured, it was only because Carl was there. A little part of him felt guilty that he sent his son away but it was just a little part. He continued looking at the news, he saw that there would be a curfew too from five in the evening, till five in the morning. He was tempted to call the men he placed to watch over his son, but recalling his son had tried to eat from his plate, he frowned, whatever concern he felt disappeared as he turned off the news. He was not going to check on his ungrateful son, if he died, that was his fate, if he survived, it was also his fate.

He simply busied himself with his work and occasionally glanced at Hallie who was sitting quietly as usual, reading a magazine. He really liked his relationship with her, they did not always speak, silence, they say is the loudest noise. In silence, they could communicate with one another. Not long after, he noticed she had fallen asleep, it was unlike her to fall asleep when they were together but things happen, so he brushed it away. She may be really tired.

On the other hand, his wife Judith was ecstatic when she heard the news, she was sure the incident had occurred in the district Carl resided, so part of her was frantic at the thought that he could be one of the many casualties, dead or injured. She quickly phoned the men stationed to watch over Carl to confirm her assumption.

There were just two persons placed in the city to watch over him. They slacked with their jobs, often times, they did not follow him. They got tired of his daily routine so they rarely checked on him again. It was only the first month that they were serious about monitoring him. After he repeatedly did the same thing, they became bored with his routine and stopped following him that was why they were unaware of many things, even the fact that he now owned a car was unknown to them. Neither did they know that he had quit his job and even began training. The task turned out to be a holiday for them, they spent their days leisurely, moving from one game room to another, one club to another, one brothel to another. What better way to spend their days?

Soon the call connected, how where they to explain that they did not know if he was caught in the crossfire? They were expected to follow his every move but they did not, so they had no idea whether something happened to him. How where they supposed to explain this situation? What possible explanation could they come up with? They only had one job, that was to watch him. Since they didn't, they would of course lose their jobs. "Quick, tell me, is he dead? Was he injured?" Her questions did not surprise the man that picked the call, they all know she hated Carl. She would pretend she was honourable and wanted peace but they had been witness to how she treated him behind Brandon's back. They pitied him but he wasn't their problem anyway so to chose to ignore everything she did. Besides, who are they to go against their employer? If he couldn't see his wife for who she really is, what would telling him solve? Besides, he might also hate his son, so at the end of the day, they would be the ones to lose their jobs. Their lives would be destroyed. Knowing they couldn't afford to offend the Blackwoods, they turned a blind eye. "Madam, we do not know yet, we lost him in the attack, we are trying to find him." This was a plausible excuse. They could not possibly keep up with him when there was a sudden attack.
