The truth however is that she could not control either wives that was why she despised them. The first wife came from a rich family they had to depend on, so she really could not throw her weight around that was why she did not stop her son from cheating. As for the second wife, though she came from a humble background, she was street smart and would never allow someone else to control her, she would do the controlling.

Zabuza from the Anime "Naruto" once said, "In the Ninja world, you either use or be used." So to speak, in the world today, it's not so different. Those who can't be used are seen as the nail that sticks out and therefore needs hammering. If you can't be of use to them, you're not really of use then and as such should be discarded. Colleen is a very controlling woman who wants everything to go her way and that is why she tries to be involved in every aspect of the lives of her children. If something or rather someone can't be controlled, she ends up hating that person. Hallie was meek, quiet and humble, she felt it would be easier to control her, that was the only reason she treated her better that the wives.

Brandon wasn't sure what it was about Hallie that attracted people, that made her so likable. 'If only I met her first or Judith was just like her.' He thought. He saw his mother smile and he knew she was pleased. His wife had never tried to please his mother, she did not also treat his mother like hers, she did not even treat her parents well. At least, now his mother had someone to accompany her. He was  worried that his parents were alone but he did not need to worry any more. After eating dinner, he drove home.

He was greeted by his crying wife when he got home. For some reason he felt her tears were fake and she was disgusting. He had already began comparing Judith to Hallie, whether consciously or unconsciously. 'Why did I marry her?' He pondered. "Darling, you're home." She greeted, sobbing, if only she knew his thoughts, she would have probably cleaned up and stopped crying. "I was only worried and I did not mean to offend you. I had no idea…" As she complained about how unfairly he treated her when she was just worried about their son and he did not try to call her too, her voice faded. He could not hear anything she was saying, he could only see how irritating she was, how her snort and tears flowed into her mouth and how she constantly liked them. She looked ugly while crying, his mind drifted to Hallie, she looked beautiful when she cried.

"Are you listening?" He heard her ask. "I'm tired," he replied. Avoiding her, he went upstairs. Her eyes followed him as he moved away. Judith was dismayed, her eyes and mouth was agape. 'How could he not feel pity towards her? When did he change? Something is definitely wrong.' At that moment she knew she had to bring Ryan back home by all means. He was her anchor, without him, she would have been kicked out by her in-laws a long time ago, her mother in-law made it known a long time ago that she did not like her and that was one of the many reasons she did not like going to the ancestral home. She wasn't welcomed, they treated her like she was invincible. Rather than suck up to the old woman, she turned the other way round. It's not like she married the old madam, it was Brandon she married. But now she couldn't help but feel afraid, her husband, most times was at the ancestral house, she felt her mother in-law was at fault. She did not want them to be together anymore. Suddenly, she realized it was a bad idea to ignore the old madam rather than fawn over her because Brandon always obeyed her, he never tried to go against her wishes. Judith knew better than others that the old madam was controlling and also loved it when you kiss her a-ss but she was not interested in being the old ladies puppet, she was her own person. That is why they never agreed.

Back in State A, the two men had found themselves at the apartment both Kim and Carl shared. They were unsure whether to knock or not. Was he aware of their presence? Was he unaware? What should they do? Should they just keep watch or knock on the door? It was rather confusing. Instead of going to the hospital to check the victims to see if Carl was there, they went to his apartment because they knew that at the time of the attack, he would be at work. And he usually returned by five so they were hoping to see him return. But they waited till seven, still no movement, no one was approaching. Did that mean he was caught in the attack? Thinking of this, they decided to go to the hospital to find out if he was there. But their search was futile so they returned home, hoping to catch him before he goes to work the next day.
