After reading the letter, Virat didn't speak a word. His face was expressionless. Nobody could sense what was going on in his mind.
Sanvi was the first one to break the silence between them. She was still looking outside the window. "Little did I know that we'd end up losing her. She could've at least informed me that she wanted to meet Tom Cruise. Even I would've accompanied her. At least if we both were together we didn't have to see this day." Her eyes flooded with tears.
Virat didn't know what to do now. "But after that didn't she come back to District D? Didn't tell rest of you all go there? Or at least didn't she back to the room?"
Sanvi wiped her eyes with her free hand and explained. "Yes, even I thought I would meet her at district D and as planned all of us left. But that day, the weather tuned very violent. They were issuing alerts everywhere about the possibility of a flood and everybody should go to a safe place. That's when i started panicking. I didn't know where she was or any information about her." She was shaking.
"We weren't even allowed to go to District D since it was one of the most affected district. We returned back. But then I thought, since even she won't be allowed to go to District D, she will also be forced to come back to the University campus. That was my only hope. I was praying for her safety throughout. But to our bad luck, our bus toppled at one of the curves on the mountainous area due to extreme wind and rain, we were all hurt. That's how I ended up fracturing my hand too." She pointed at her fractured arm inside the sling bag.
Virat's frown deepened. He asked, "How are you now? Were you hospitalised there?
Sanvi answered him, "Yes, all of us were rescued by the Army. There was nothing to worry about us since we were shifted to a safe place and given the required treatment."
Virat sighed, " Indeed our soldiers are doing a thankless job."
"But the problem was it began raining very heavily. So, we had no option left but to wait there. That's how we lost Maya. We didn't get any information about her." Sanvi said with a worried look.
" As soon as it was announced that there was heavy rain followed by floods I couldn't wait any longer. I immediately came there. But everyone and everything was scattered due to the floods. I couldn't get any information. So I decided on travelling myself. But in vain, I travelled all the districts but couldn't find her anywhere. But the only hope was I found her Mickey mouse backpack at one of the relief camps." A ray of hope flickered in his eyes.
He paused and continued, "No matter what, I don't want to give up on the hopes of finding her. I very well know that she's safe somewhere." Then he looked at Sanvi in her eyes and said, " Sanvi please help me. Let's find Maya together."
Sanvi could feel his burning gaze full of grit and determination.
