Everyone in the Round Table is on edge. Obviously so, because final exams is around the corner. Us elementary schoolers are pretty carefree about it, while the senpais of the middle and high school departments are desperately studying. They were all quiet and didn’t say anything and just studied, perhaps thinking as long as they don’t speak they can concentrate on it.

“Are you okay with your studies, Laura-senpai?”

“Yes, I’ve memorized history with all my heart, and Magic Engineering is my strong point from the start.”

Laura-senpai hints the composure of the victor as she continued reading the recent fashion magazine for women as she gracefully drinks her tea in between the other senpais desperately devoting themselves to their studies. She truly feels like an absolute victor amidst the others.

“What is Magic Engineering about? I know about understanding magic through theories, but I am not sure what you do in practice with it.”

I too am studying high school curriculum, but Magic Engineering is something that’s still beyond my comprehension. Understanding it is till completely far away from me…even knowing that I must learn about it in the future.

“You know that there’s a machine that measures a baby’s mana, yes? It is similar to that. The primary subject of Magic Engineering is about expressing magic in numbers. We forcefully turn something that can only be understood by bodily sensation into numbers and formulate a theory.”

Urgh…just listening to it makes me feel awful.

“It’s not that difficult. As long as you memorize the important formulas, the rest is very easy.”

“The formulas…”

That’s going to be difficult for me who hates science.

“Laura-senpai, can you please teach me this!?”

“Laura-sama! What should I do with this!?”

All these lost lambs came flocking at Laura-senpai as we were having a carefree conversation.

“You can use the Zurigun equation here…”

Woah, Laura-senpai is guiding those lost lambs. As expected of her.

By the way, even if the academy is focused on magic, they also teach general education subjects such as math, history, science and humanities, but the field of science taught here is so difficult since it’s so different than the science I learned on earth, so it’s really a struggle to understand it.

I mean I know about Pasteur’s experiment that disproves the idea of spontaneous generation, but the theory of how atmospherical mana can give birth to fairies and the like in this world is way above my head. GAAH!! Humanities curriculum tend to follow the pattern of remembering how the story goes, so I could manage going through the field I liked, but science studies will probably be hell when I get to high school. It’s great that I decided to start studying it early despite it being super boring.

“How’s your test, Iris?”

Since Laura-senpai’s attention is being hogged by the lost little lambs, I went to ask Iris.

“It’s alright! I’ve studied hard for it!”

“Are there any parts that you don’t understand? I can teach you, you know?”

Of course, I haven’t been falling behind on my studies for the elementary curriculum’s studies. If anything, I’m confident in both science and humanities studies for my current curriculum. Another world aside, it’s still the elementary studies, and thanks to Wolf-sensei and some other people being my tutor, I’ve managed to learn a lot from them.

“I’m alright! I will show you that I can get full marks!” Iris said, clenching her small fists.

She’s really a cutie.

“Astrid, are you okay with not studying for the test?”

Geh…just as I was being refreshed by Iris, Friedrich came.

“I will be fine, your Highness, I have made my own preparation.”

Not wanting to be an elementary school dropout aside, if I get bad scores in my final exam Father would stop me from conducting magic research, and if that happens my further research to perfect my 120mm rifled gun will stop!

“Then, shall we go study together? Studying together before a test might improve our friendship.”

Wow, an invitation from the devil! What are you, a demon?

“Y-Y-yes, that is correct…shall we hold a study group then…”

Ugh…now that the nuclear landmine Friedrich is here the other two landmines Adolf and Silvio is definitely going to be there too. Forget studying, this is hell on earth…

Yet again if I refuse the offer here it might incur their wrath, so I’ll obediently follow my fate for now. That’s right, I’ll follow your path for now but I’ll beat you black and blue in due time, you cursed fate!

So anyways, I followed Friedrich like a calf being led to slaughter¹ to the corner of the Round Table. There I found Adolf glaring earnestly at a history book, while Silvio was reading a geography book with a difficult expression. Both of them are desperate. The two of you have been studying habitually so you don’t have to cram the night before the test you know…

“What subject are you good at, Astrid?”

“I would say magic and humanities. I can perhaps help you if it’s a humanities subject.”

As I said that, both Adolf and Silvio raised their faces.

“H-Hey, is there any tricks to learning history?”

“Let me think…memorization is important, but it is also important to read and understand history as a story. By thinking that way, it would be more difficult to forget the name of the characters, and it would be easier to find if the actions before and after contradict each other.”

I love history. I’ve read a lot of history books back in my world, especially military history. But anyways, remembering history, military or otherwise, is easier if I remember it as a story. Just like how there’s a reason between an outbreak of war, events of history has their own reasons as well, and the cause and effect should be linked to each other like in a screenplay of a story.

“A story, huh…”

“If it’s elementary history, I think the book “The Story of Various Kingdoms” is a lot easier to understand than the current textbook. It really portrays history as a story after all, but you really should remember the name of Imperial Eras too.”

I told Adolf my recommendation.

The social gathering aside, I haven’t been too cautious against Adolf recently. At any rate, I now realized that he’s admitted that Miine-kun is his girlfriend. Go on and get married~

Still though, how’s Miine-kun and her friends doing. We talk a lot in the classroom, but I spend a lot of time in the round table so I have been neglecting her as of late. I think I’ll invite her to play sometimes…oh, I can invite her to celebrate the passing of our finals.

“Miss Astrid, do you have any tricks to learning geography?” Silvio asked.

Silvio…you look pale as hell. You okay?

“If it’s geography, it’s better to remember the area…or the map I should say. Try opening the map and write down the names of mines and its feudal lords, and then it’ll be easier to remember. Though it is better to understand the name of the places based on where they are instead of memorizing them individually.”

I chose world history myself, so I only heard the tricks to the study from the friends I studied geography. Sorry about that, Silvio.

“I see…maps, is it…”

“You should start from writing the name of places on the map. It would be more efficient if you write them down on a map yourself.”

Well there’s not much to learn in elementary-level geography, so this much should be fine.

“Thank you, miss Astrid. I shall try my best.”

That’s weird. Silvio has been studying all day but why is he so panicked today.

“Astrid, can you tell me the trick to learning the practical skills of magic?”

“Y-yes, of course. Shall we go outside?”

Firing off spells in the room would bother the other Round Table members, so we should go outside.

“Astrid, did you notice?”

“Notice what if I may ask?”

“Silvio’s condition. Do you not think it’s weird?”

Actually yeah, he’s acting suspiciously that I’d think it’s a bug.

“I think so, but do you know the reason, your Highness?”

“A problem happened to Prime Minister Stefan…His father. Perhaps I could say their relationship might be broken off in the future.”

“Huh? Broken off?”

Being broken off from your parents is a huge issue you know?”

“The expansion of army that my father…Wilhelm III is undertaking is based on the advice from the prime minister. We plan to eliminate the Österreich empire and consolidate our Reichs, and we have to expand our army to prevent our advances from being interrupted by the Melliaria Empire.”

Oh, so Wilhelm III is an advocate of an expansion along with prime minister Stefan. No wonder the expansion is going so smoothly. I get it now.

“Silvio seems to think that it’s a mistake, thinking that perhaps Österreich empire and the Melliaria Empire can still settle the dispute through diplomacy. He insisted that if they were to settle it through military expansion and war, there will be a lot more casualties from our citizens.”

So he’s against military expansion too, huh.

As an elementary schooler, I still don’t know the sense of tension internationally, but since I know that we’re nearing the age of Steel and Fire, I’m doubtful if we don’t prepare our military ourselves.

“It seems like Silvio-sama is already thinking of our national politics.”

“No, he’s thinking of the role of a prime minister. The prime minister often acts as the royal advisor, so they also bear the burden of becoming the restraint of political decision-making. Right now the prime minister Stefan doesn’t seem to have an opposing view with his own father, and perhaps that’s what Silvio dissatisfied with.”

I want to skip this discussion since the theory of governance is too difficult for me, but it’s true that since the Kaiser and the prime minister had the same opinion, the expansion is going smoothly, and since there’s no one stepping on the break, this empire would fall harder.

Hmm…I’ve investigated the military preparedness of the Prussian Empire, but even if it can fight toe-to-toe with the Österreich empire, fighting the Melliaria empire would be tough. They have the population advantage and it’s difficult to assault their infrastructures. As Silvio thought, declaring war right now is too reckless.

Besides, if the Prussian empire falls, it would take me down with it, and that’s not good. It’s really not.

Although, if we’re still following the plot of the game, the war should be declared when we’re high schoolers. At that point, maybe our military will be sufficiently reinforced or perhaps the Melliaria empire would suffer from a political disturbance.

I’ve personally witnessed the happy ending of the game, so if I don’t meddle with the politics, the plot shouldn’t change…keyword on “shouldn’t”.

“What do you think, Astrid?”

“I believe declaring war right now would be dangerous. I believe we should at least seem to be friendly with the other parties and wait for the right time, and even after enough military preparedness, the Prussian empire shouldn’t immediately take offensive actions and instead start from severing the cooperation between the Österreich empire and the Melliaria empire.”

Fighting a war in two fronts is a recipe for disaster. If we want to avoid destruction, we have to fight them off one by one. The Prussian empire can be considered a major nation, but its population is not powerful enough to fight two other nations at once.

“You’re quite belligerent yourself, aren’t you Astrid.”

“I only think of what is necessary to win. It is still a very childish thought though.”

It’s better for you to put some ideas of conflict in that flower field in your brain you know. Not as far as Moctezuma though.

“Alright, now can you please teach me the tricks on how to learn the practical use of magic?”

“Yes, let us start from Water elementals…”

Anyways, we proceed to learn about the practical use of magic, but apparently it seems like Friedrich is only pulling me out to talk about Silvio since he doesn’t seem to have any problem with practical magic.

Also what the hell, can you not come to me for an advice about Silvio? It’s the heroine’s job you know? Besides, he hasn’t been talking much with Lotte-kun recently so the heroine’s job is to clear out the two landmines that are Silvio and Friedrich.

Anyways, it seems like Miine-kun saw Friedrich and I doing practical magic together and she was so excited asking me if we’re engaged yet. Of course not! Besides, don’t you start talking about people, go take care of Adolf already!
