Chapter 33

After seeing off Laura-senpai and her friends, I formally entered the first year of middle school.

There is one thing I wanted to do when I become a middle schooler. That’s right, club activities! There are no extracurricular activities for elementary schoolers, but middle schoolers can have club activities together with the high schoolers, varying from sport clubs to indoor clubs.

I enjoyed mountain climbing and camping outdoors in the Outdoors Activities club in my previous world, but right now in this world, I’m thinking of joining an indoors activities club, and the reason is that the academy has a club that’s made just for me; the Magic Research club!

“Let’s start by observing them!”

I should know what activities the Magic Research club undergoes, so I head for the club building and knocked at the Magic Research club’s door.

“Come in~”

“Please excuse me!”

What greets me as I opened the door were…four languid female students. They have snacks lined up on the table, and while I can see that they have a set of test tubes, beakers and mana measuring devices, all of them were coated in dust…they really don’t look like they’re doing what their club says they do.

“Um…is this the Magic Research club?”

“Yes, it is. This is the Magic Research club.”

Gaaah…I thought this is a club where the members research and practice magic every day…but it just looks like a place where people hang out to skip class…I’m so disappointed I could cry.

“Do you conduct any club activities?”

“We do even though it’s subtle. You see, these cookies…” to my frank question, the high school senpai that looks like the club president took a piece of cookie from the table and said, “one of them were infused with Black Magic that would make you sneeze non-stop.”

“Wooow, it’s so boring I’m actually shocked!”

Isn’t that just a punishment game!? What use is there for that!?

“You said it’s boring, but…the aim of this club is to leisurely use magic for our daily life. We don’t really conduct something too technical you know?”

“Are there no clubs that deals with technical magic research?”

“We deal with technical stuff in class, so there are none for now.”

Yeah, no, these people are wasting their time.

“So? Are you going to join? We’ll welcome you.”

“No thanks, I already have a place where I can get advices and snacks.”

Why would I join this stupid circle in the first place? My future depends on my magic research. As if I’m gonna waste my time on a sneeze cookie that even an elementary schooler can make.

“Huh? Are you possibly from the Round Table?”

“Yes, I am Astrid Sophie von Oldenburg. I apologize for taking up your time. I shall excuse myself.”

What a serious disappointment! I’m well and truly shocked!

…Still though, there’s no other clubs that focuses on magic research activities…that’s a problem. I guess I could always opt for sports clubs to improve my basic physical strength.

No, wait, there’s still a way!

“I don’t need to rely on existing clubs, right? I should be able to make a new club, so can I not just make a true magic research club?”

Deciding thus, I break into a sprint. Increasing my speed through Blood Magic, I dashed right toward the faculty office. The faculties were surprised with me barging through with the speed faster than a horse’s gallop, but I didn’t pay any attention to it.

“Sensei! Who is the teacher in charge of clubs here?” I asked a nearby teacher, and he answered while pointing at another teacher with shining head. “I-It’s Oppenheim-sensei…” he said.

“Thank you very much!”

Thank you for the intel, nameless teacher.

Once again I sprinted…or not. Since it’s too big of a hassle, I made a huge leap towards right under Oppenheim-sensei. After a nice landing,

“Oppenheim-sensei!”

“Woah! W-What is it?”

Oppenheim-sensei was surprised at my sudden entrance, but that doesn’t matter. There’s only one thing I must do!

“What should I do if I want to make a new club!?”

“I-I see, you want to make a new club, right? I get it, please calm down a notch…suddenly coming down from above like that is really bad for my heart…”

Forget that, let me know how to make a new club, pleez!

“First off, here’s the application sheet for making a new club. Write down the name of the person who wants to establish the new club—”

“Thank you! I’ll take it!”

In blazing speed, I took the paper along with a quill from Oppenheim-sensei’s table and write down the name of the club that I made, by me, and for yours truly.

“Okay! Is this alright!?”

“…Official Magic Research club…are you trying to pick a fight with the current club?”

“They did it first!”

The Official Magic Research club! I’ll show that fake and lazy Magic Research club what a real Magic Research club is all about!

“I’ll overlook the name for now, but…you need at least 4 students’ participation to establish a new club. Please be sure to write down those 4 people’s names here…and just to be sure, let me remind you that these four students need to actually exist and be willing to join the club.”

Ugh…I expected this restriction but apparently, I can’t write down just about anybody…I was just about to do that…Wait, can this sensei actually read my mind?

“Very well, please submit the paper again after you have some more members.”

“Okaay…”

Four people. Excluding me, I’d need to recruit 3 people. I can’t invite Iris since elementary school students can’t participate in club activities, and there’s no way in hell I would invite Friedrich and his buddies even though that’s exactly 3 people. Now why would I involve myself with those landmines even outside of the Round Table? I’m tired of playing Minesweeper already.

“I guess I’ll try inviting Miine and her friends…”

I can have 5 people with Miine-kun and her friends, but I’m pretty sure they have other interests in clubs, so I’m pretty sure it won’t go that easily.

Sigh…If I can’t find them, I guess I’ll give up and settle with the track and field club and improve my stamina.

“Club activities?”

I asked Miine-kun and her friends about their plans for joining clubs.

“I have no plans for now.”

“I don’t have any plans either.”

Oh? Good responses from Lotte-kun and Miine-kun. Can I do it?

“I’m not interested in club activities myself.”

“Me too.”

Brigitte-kun and Sandra-kun’s response is not bad either. Saying that they’re not interested is a bit off though…

“Then…are you interested in joining the club I make?”

“Astrid-sama made a new club?” asked Miine-kun with surprise, looking at the application sheet I put on the table.

…I wrote down Official Magic Research Club out of sheer excitement, but looking back to it, the name might have been too aggressive.

“My, it does seem interesting. What do we do in the club?”

“Ohh, good question. We would study magic that supports our everyday life. We would then practice what we study and then we can publish what we did. Don’t worry, we won’t be doing punishment games by eating sneeze cookies.”

Huh? What’s going on, Miine-kun and her friends look stiff after hearing my explanation.

“…I’m thinking of making something popular with the girls, like love potions for example.”

We can make love potions. Triggering an excited state of the brain through Blood Magic, that excitement can be misapprehended as a romantic feeling. It’s something I overheard when I was studying about Blood Magic.

“L-Love potion…!”

“Can we really make it? Really?”

That’s a hit! I’ve got these ladies in the bag!

“We can, but I really need you to join to help me make it.”

Fufufu, you can’t win against the devil’s seduction!

“I shall join! Being able to strive on club activities with Astrid-sama whom I respect is truly wonderful!”

“M-Me too!”

Miine-kun and Lotte-kun is in! How about the rest?

“I shall join as well. This club activity might be fun.”

Brigitte is in!

“Um…I have a question. Will I receive magic instructions from Astrid-sama during the activity? I am not well versed in sorcery, so I am worried that I will only be a burden…”

“Don’t worry, don’t worry. I’ll thoroughly teach you in anything you don’t understand.” I replied to Sandra-kun’s worry. I don’t think you have to be worried that much though. I’ll look after you carefully as the president.

“Then I shall join as well.”

Alrighty! That’s 5 people!

“Okay, can you write down your name here? I’ll submit the paper after you do.”

“Understood.”

Miine-kun and her friends signed their names on the paper. Fufufu, be surprised, Oppenheim-sensei. I managed to get me some club members!

“Alright, I’ll go submit this to the teacher!”

Thinking that the teacher might be thinking it’s about time I came back to give up, I grasped the application paper and rush for the faculty office once again. Quick like a horse or even an automobile, my heightened nervous responses allowed me to dodge and pass through teachers and students standing in the hallway before making a hole in one in the faculty office!

“Oppenheim-sensei, I’ve filled out the club application sheet! Come, quickly give me the room for the Official Magic Research Club!”

“Calm down, I tell you. My heart is in a bad shape since you came here with extreme speed…”

Isn’t it because of your habitual neglect of personal health?

“So, you have 5 members, I see. It’s all middle school students, but it’s okay. You need to find a supervising teacher, but I wonder if there are teachers who are free…”

Huuh? Didn’t I clear the requirement for members? Now I need a teacher too!?

“Aah, I remember a teacher that’s free. Bernhardt-kun, can you come over for a bit?”

“Anything you need?”

Woaaahh! It’s Bernhardt-sensei! Unlike when I met him back at third grade and when I met him at the bookstore, he looks a lot more tired though. There is a way to reduce fatigue through Blood Magic, but there’s no way to heal mental fatigue, and I do believe that a huge part of his exhaustion comes from mental fatigue.

“Bernhardt-kun, can you be the…Official Magic Research club’s advisor?”

“A club advisor, is it? And Official Magic Research club…?”

Bernhardt-sensei’s expression stiffened to Oppenheim-sensei’s request. Maan, he’s already so tired and now the responsibility of being the club advisor! I’m really sorry, Bernhardt-sensei…!

“Understood. I shall manage the club budget as its advisor” Berhnardt-sensei replied, though with an expression that still looks like he would click his tongue…this might make a bad impression of me…

“By the way, who is the club president?”

“It’s miss Astrid over there”, replied Oppenheim-sensei, pointing at me.

“Aah, it’s miss Astrid. I believe it will not be a big issue then. I shall take on this responsibility with peace of mind. I look forward to working with you, miss Astrid.”

“Likewise, thank you for helping out despite your busy schedule.”

Hmm, I successfully made a new club, but at the same time that’s another burden on my respected Bernhardt-sensei’s shoulders. I really need to make sure not to make any problems, otherwise Bernhardt-sensei would have a heart attack.

“My goodness. I’m glad that middle school students are honest…High schoolers are…” Bernhardt-sensei whispered as he took his leave.

“Alright, now that the members and advisor is settled, I shall assign you your club room. The room to the right side of the club building’s first floor is open, so go ahead and use that. Oh also, send my regards to duke Oldenburg.”

Huh, so Oppenheim-sensei is also one of those uncultured high nobles who seeks connection. Well whatever, now that I’ve got my club set up, I don’t mind having a little talk with father.

That aside, finally my dream club is established! All that’s left is the club activities!

On towards becoming a great magician!
