"I have a slightly bad feeling..."
The trio was finally reaching the boundaries of the <Fantasia Zone> and was nearing the <Neutral Zone>
When they passed through a magic barrier that reached high into the skies and looked like some water veil, Cole had thought he heard a slight beep, but quickly pushed away from the thought.
Wide expanses of ground spread before them. They were covered with varying shades of grey grass and black colored trees with white leaves and vice versa.
It was like a black and white watercolor painting. Although beautiful, it still felt dull.
Besides the blacks, greys, and whites. There were the occasional khakis and navy blues that gave the Zone a neutral feeling.
「So this is the Neutral Zone. I guess it lives up to its name in color at least.」

Cole was too focused on running away from the reality known as bad cooking skills and wasn't able to view the scenery as he passed through.
And although he had the previous Cole's memories, some were fractured or missing. Probably due to the banana cliff fall.
But personally, Cole didn't mind the dull colors. He actually quite liked it.
It didn't have that kind of beauty that paintings full of bright colors could sometimes make but it didn't cause chaos to your eyes either.
It was... 'Neutral', he guessed.
"This is only how it is in the morning though."

"What do you mean, Felicia?"
"Huhuhu... You'll see..."
"If you say so..."
They continued chatting on while flying and noticed a set of towers when they were at a place that could be called the "Center" of the <Neutral Zone>
They were approaching a large tower about 600 meters tall and had at least 80 floors. The tower had two, smaller ones, about 400 meters tall, to the sides of it and was connected via a covered stone bridge with glass windows.

The towers were built like a tiered cake and had 6 tiers to it with the topmost one being noticeably thinner than the last one. Its main architectural style seemed to be based off the Gothic Revival Style (Go google it) with its pointed arches and steeply pitched roofs.
As for the colors, it mainly used black for its roofs and white for the walls while making the windows made out of neon blue stained glass.
On the ground the towers were built; however, a sight uncommonly found in the <Neutral Zone> was present.
Trees of rich browns and healthy greens. Flowers blooming in the seven colors of the rainbow. Non-grey grass. It was a strange sight indeed
Seemingly separating the world of color to the monochromatic world was a dome-shaped barrier that combined the energy fields seen in the <Avant Zone> to the magic barriers existing in the <Fantasia Zone>
「Hmm? What is that building, my friend?」
"I don't seem to remember it, unfortunately."
"That is <Central Academy>"
「"<Central Academy>?"」
Seeing that both Valerion and Cole wanted to know, Felicia calmy explained it to the two of them.
"<Central Academy> is an academy built together by representatives of the 5 zones. It took 3 years after the <Collapse> just for the plan to even come up and 5 years for it to even be built."
"Why is that?"
"Its because the <Times Zone> had lost an entire billion worth of people overnight when the <Collapse> happened."
「?! Is that true?!」
Valerion was extremely shocked at this remark. Even for him, it was hard to eliminate a million people in one night, let alone a billion.
"Yes, one huge country just up and disappeared. As it was transported into a different dimension."
「That is just unthinkable!」
"What was the name of that country?"
Felicia pondered for a bit, she had too much knowledge stored up in that Mechanica brain of hers.
"Let's see... I remembered it was called... China."
「That is a foreign name.」
"Hmm..."
Cole was slightly confused. There was no way for an entire country that was able to house one billion people to just suddenly disappear. He decided he would look into the matter another time.
"It was tough for the <Avant Zone> as well. Due to the <Collapse>, they had lost their hope for advancing humanity."
「What do you mean?」
'I have a bad feeling about this'
"The <Avant Zone> had the opportunity to advance its technology even more, but the man that gave that hope, unfortunately, perished during the Collapse."
「What a shame... A man that great must have been an exceptional and noteworthy personage. What was his name?」
"His name... It's really funny because the man right next to me has the exact same name as him"

Cole could hear alarm bells ringing in his head but he could do nothing to stop them.
"Yes. His name was 'Cole Steward'."

Cole was currently covering his ears in a crouching position. On his face was the face of someone who was forced to remember his forbidden past.

The history lesson ended up getting cut short and the trip was followed by an awkward silence for its duration.
While they were flying, Cole, at some point got hit in the face by some glowing orb the size of his palm.
Because his mood worsened after that, Felicia ended up having to keep it in her <Inventory> along with the rabbit plush toy.
Eh? What is this sudden thing called an <Inventory>?
It's a <Skill> that was taught to her when she was young. It'll be explained another time.
After another hour of flying at a leisurely pace, they had come across a literal black forest. The tree trunks were black, the leaves were black, the grass was... surprisingly not black.
The area itself was a thick hilly forest one with a mountain range behind it.
The entire place was found in the east and had the boundary to <Times Zone> located behind the mountain range.
At the entrance of the forest, was a log cabin.
The cabin was pretty big with two floors with the first one being made out of stone and the second one made out of Cedar wood that could be found in both the <Fantasia Zone> and the <Times Zone> with a deck at the back of the house.
The first floor had a porch extending around it and had a small balcony above it serving as a make-shift roof.
There was a stone path leading to one of the entrances on the right side of the cabin as well as a small set of stairs leading to the porch.
There was also a separate staircase to the left side of the cabin that directly led to the second floor. The slate roofs were colored black, making it blend in with the trees when looking at it from the sky and was about 460+ square meters.
It was an oversized yet pretty cabin.

Valerion landed on the ground before the cabin, taking care not to accidentally destroy it.
Cole hopped off his back before helping Felicia down, much to her secret delight.
「So this is your abode... It is a nice one indeed.」
As Valerion said this, a cloud of black smoke engulfed his massive figure before shrinking down to the black-haired, purple-eyed man from before.
"I'm glad you like it!"
"Cole built it himself!"
「That is impressive.」
Among the memories that weren't missing from Cole's brain, the entire process of building the cabin. Cole was impressed that the previous Cole was able to build the house all by himself.
"Shall we go see Eva?"

The trio went up the stairs of the porch and opened the door to the house.

Because she was lying down on the sofa, you couldn't see her face but you could read the title.

From the past owner's memories, he could immediately tell that Eva didn't want a mom. She wanted Felicia to become her mom.
Unfortunately, the previous Cole was a virgin through and through and didn't even do it with his hand! Poor soul...
As for the reason behind that, Cole had no idea. There were a LOT of missing memories. Especially ones from 6 years ago and his early childhood.
'Maybe I'll give it a shot.'

Cole said and left his slippers on the door and walked closer to the little girl.

Eva put the book down and hopped off the sofa and stared at her father right in his charcoal eyes. Well, not exactly. She was a bit short for a 5 year old, standing at 99 cm tall and had to strain her tiny little head just to see her father's face.
"What?"
"I'm waiting for my apology gift."
"Apology gift? Oh yeah."
Considering the fact that he bolted out of the house first thing in the morning (It was 8 at the time) and ran west as fast as possible not giving a care to what time he would return only to return home 4 hours and 30 minutes later. (It's lunch time now)
It should be natural that Cole should gift something in apology to her.
"Felicia, the bunny."
"Here."
Felicia pulled out the plush toy from earlier from a pocket in her maid apron and handed it to Cole.
Cole knelt down on one knee and presented the gift to Eva.
"I, your humble servant, Cole Steward, wish to present this simple gift to your majesty, Evangeline."
"Umu..."
Eva felt like laughing seeing her father act like a knight so she decided to play along.
"Your queen accepts!"
Eva took the bunny in her little arms and had to hold it tightly so she wouldn't make it fall.
The more Eva looked at it, the more she liked it. She eventually ended up breaking into a childish grin.
Eva tore her eyes from the bunny and looked at Cole again.
"Thank you! Papa!"
She then gave Cole a big hug which Cole reciprocated and lifted her up while her hand was still holding the bunny's ear.
She then gave Cole a peck on the cheek before squirming out of the hug and jumping down on the sofa and running to her room upstairs.
Cole touched his cheek for and had a small thought.
'I guess something like this isn't so bad...'
He then turned around to see a Felicia with a blank look in her eyes and a Valerion swimming in vinegar(1)
「Aaah! Why is your daughter so cute! I only have an idiot son! Why is the world unfair!」
"I didn't know you had a kid too, Val."
「He's at his mom's parents house because I decided to take a nap.」
"Oh."
「The last time I saw him was 6 months ago, he's probably still a brat.」
"Isn't he supposed to be a brat? He's like 7."
「Still...」
As the two were having a daddy talk, Eva was still gazing out into space. She snapped out of it and instead decided to stare at Cole.
"Hmmm? What? Do you want a kiss too?"
"E-Eh?! No! I-I just thought of asking what you wanted for dinner but nevermind!"
And with that, Felicia dashed into the kitchen with a face as red as a tomato.
Thus that ends Cole's first (technically second because he was actually out for 12 hours when he fainted) day since transmigrating.
