Chapter 62 Hunting

“Pour the water on the parasite spirit after it falls into the trap,” said Wen Jiubo in a flat tone.

“Wha…what?” I stammered. But Wen Jiubo wasn’t paying any attention to my reaction. Instead, he dusted his sleeves and began the ritual.

Wen Jiubo closed his eyes, put two fingers of his left hand up and muttered, “Green God in the East, Red God in the South, White God in the West, Black God in the North, Yellow God in the Center.”

Suddenly, Wen Jiubo unfolded the paper fan in his hand and tapped the forehead of each body with it. His large sleeve swung with his movements. “I stand on the brink between here and there, in the eternal moment of the now, straddled between what was and what is to come. Reveal yourself, demon!”

Then, the sign that Bai had drawn on the floor began to gleam with a faint red light, which slowly extended at a speed visible to the naked eye. There was no wind in the room, but the charms on the foreheads of the bodies began to shake wildly and Wen Jiubo gazed sharply straight ahead.

“Found it,” Wen Jiubo suddenly grinned.

“What are you saying?” Before I could finish my question, I felt the air in front of me suddenly turn frosty and a thick black smoke appeared in front of us, emitting a familiar putrid odor.

“Oh my god, what… what is this…” Shi Yitong subconsciously stepped back, looking frightened.

The instant I looked up at this thick black smoke, I was so scared I couldn’t say a word.

Inside the black smoke was a red shadow. At first, I thought it was just an ordinary ghost, however, as the shadow was approaching, I began to see it clearly.

It had the shape of a human, probably the same height as an average adult man but it was extremely skinny. What the most frightening thing about it was that it was covered in blood from head to toe. Every inch of its skin was severely burned as if he was thrown in a fire, with disgusting pus oozing down.

The spirit detected our gaze, it howled and rushed towards us.

“Gu Yu, now!” Wen Jiubo shouted at me.

Now? Now what? I didn’t know what to do and my mind was blank. Oh, right! Wen Jiubo asked me to throw the water on the parasite spirit.

I hurriedly held up the bowl. However, I was so nervous that my hand kept shaking and almost half of the water in the bowl had been spilled before I even threw it.

“Hurry up!” Wen Jiubo prompted me.

Damn it! I quit thinking, moved one step forward and poured the water on the spirit!

However, probably because I was too nervous and scared, most of the water had spilled on the ground, so only a few drops hit the parasite spirit. Despite that, the moment the water touched it, its skin began to burn like it was on fire. The spirit growled, running about aimlessly in the classroom.

“Damn it!” Wen Jiubo held the fan in his hand, trying to cast another spell to control it. However, the spirit was too strong to be controlled. Before Wen Jiubo could cast another spell, it turned into a black smoke again before breaking the window to escape.

“Damn it! Go after it, we can’t let it out of the building!” Shi Yitong yelled anxiously.

You don’t need to remind me, I know that! I went nuts and was the first one to rush out of the classroom. However, when I rushed into the aisle, the black smoke had already disappeared.

“I shouldn’t trust you with this,” Wen Jiubo said to me when he caught up.

I became furious when I heard this. I angrily stared at him, “Is this my fault? It was you who asked me to do this thing without warning me, I was so scared!”

“Really?” Wen Jiubo crossed his arms and looked at me. He remarked sarcastically, “But it was you who said that you have gone through ‘so many terrible things’, I thought this petty thing wouldn’t scare you.”

“You——”

“Alright, alright, you two stop arguing with each other!” Shi Yitong stood between us, annoyed.

“You’re right, the most important thing right now is to find the spirit, isn’t it?” Bai jumped out and said.

Though I was still angry because of Wen Jiubo’s attitude, I glanced at him before nodding reluctantly. Bai and Shi Yitong were right, we needed to find that spirit.

“Let’s split up,” I suggested. “Shi Yitong and I are familiar with the building, it might have escaped to the upper floors.”

Wen Jiubo didn’t reject my suggestion, he just added, “Be careful. It might not be escaping.”

We split up to search in different directions. I chose to go upstairs.

That red human shape inside the smoke was printed vividly in my head, but besides the fear, I felt something else.

What was… that familiar feeling? It was as if I used to know him.

I was pondering as I went up the stairs. I didn’t know why, but the building became really silent after the parasite spirit escaped from the classroom. I couldn’t hear anything and therefore had no clue where it might hide.

Damn, is it possible this bastard has escaped outside the building? Am I searching in the right direction? Maybe it’s hiding in some place where Wen Jiubo is currently searching?

“Gu Yu!”

At this moment, I heard a familiar voice coming from above. It was Su Xiaoyun.

“Su Xiaoyun?” I looked up. “Is that you?”

“Yes, it’s me!” Su Xiaoyun popped her head out from above, waving her hand at me.

I took a deep breath before getting nervous again and quickly ran upstairs. “Why are you here? It’s dangerous.”

“Shi Yitong asked me to meet him here,” Su Xiaoyun sounded confused. “But when I arrived, I couldn’t find him.”

“He is with Wen Jiubo. It’s really dangerous here, the parasite spirit is on the run because of my mistake.” I scratched my head. “Um, I can’t explain it right now. Anyway, you should leave immediately!”

After saying this, I grabbed her wrist.

However, the moment I touched her, I felt that something was weird. Her hand… was icy cold.

“Gu Yu, let her go!”

I heard footsteps approaching from behind. Wen Jiubo rushed over and shouted at me,

“She’s not Su Xiaoyun! Get back now!”
