Jia froze for a moment and was only brought to reality when the car behind her pressed his horn. She suddenly got into her wit and pressed the acceleration mode to follow the car. She was so sure she was not dreaming. He really looked like Jim. But just as she caught them up at the exit border, she was stopped by the parking attendant to give way for the coming ambulance. She could only watch the car as it swerved farther and farther away.

She thought about him again. There was no evidence that he was burned in the fire except for his watch and sunglasses. After all, the fire was too big that the whole house was consumed. If he was indeed burned, his body could no longer be identified.

Yet, she left him on the cottage and probably, when he sensed the danger, he could have possibly switched on the power button of his electric - powered wheelchair. But why did he not come back? Did he not say that she was his everything? Would he allow her to get married to someone else?

She decided to just go directly to school to pick Jian up. She would just be thirty minutes earlier and Jian would already be dismissed. She turned on her music player and leaned back on her seat while waiting. As she closed her eyes, the melancholic strain from the grand piano of Richard Clyderman flowed into the air, filling her car with breath of sadness. While she was with Jim, this kind of music would remind her of Anthon, but now that Jim was gone, this music made her remember him with pain.

Despite her coming wedding with Anthon, the memories of Jim were still haunting her during the lonely nights. How could she easily forget his goodness, his unwavering love and selflessness? Though in her innermost part, there was still a cry for Anthon as the man she had first loved and had always loved, Jim's devotion for her would be more than enough for her to pledge him a lifetime of loyalty and companionship. Whose heart would not melt by this kind of thoughtfulness and attention?

But the fatal claws of cancer was so cruel and took them apart...forever.

Thirty minutes later, the noise of car engines woke her up from her reveries. Other parents were already arriving one after another to pick their children up. She hurriedly got down to go to his classroom but Jian met her by the gate.

"Mom! " He yelled as he came sprinting towards her.

"Baby!" She smiled as she welcomed him in her arms.

"You're a bit early! " He noticed. Almost everyday, he was always waiting for another thirty minutes to an hour before she would arrive.

.

"Yes. I'm sorry for being always late, my love. How are you today? "

He smiled sadly and she noticed it. "Is there anything wrong, son? "

"I don't understand, mom. But daddy Jim is in my mind the whole day. "

She touched his head and pulled him into a hug.

"He's also in my mind today, love. "

Jia said with misty eyes.

"You miss him, mom? "

"Always. "

"Daddy Anthon will soon make you forget him, mom. "

Jia was taken aback that she almost stopped breathing.

"Son, if you don't like me to get married with your daddy Anthon, then I won't. "

Jian held her hands. "It's not what I mean, mom. Lolo is right. Daddy Jim is not coming back. What I mean is that, daddy Anthon will help you take away your loneliness. "

Jia laughed with tears in her eyes. Perhaps, he got that line from his grandpa. She looked up at the sound of a rolling up window of the car which was parked next to hers. Only to recall that this was the color of that obstructing car where she thought she saw Jim getting in.

She froze for a moment but an instinct suddenly hit her. She frantically knocked at the door but the car continued to pull out and sped off into the highway!

She got into the driver's seat in frustration that she cried bitterly.

There was really something odd, she could really feel it. Why were she and her son felt the same way today? Was there really a thing called mental telepathy? Why did the people inside the car, whoever were they, did not open up to scold or shout at her frantic knocking?

Jian, who was watching her, was moved and he also cried. Too afraid and worried to see her like that, he picked up his phone, got down from the car, pressed a number and made a call.

"Dad, please come over.... "

Anthon was already coming to pick him up, as lately during these days, he was already the one who picked him up at school, so in less than ten minutes, he already arrived.

Jian saw his coming so he ran to meet him. "Dad, mommy is crying. She missed daddy Jim. Please, hurry up, go to her... "

Soon, he saw Jia bawling her eyes out behind the steering wheel. He, then, silently pulled her up into his embrace and rubbed her back as she cried even louder.

When she finally calmed down, he lifted her chin up and asked.

"What happened? "

"Ton, I saw him today..."

Anthon laughed and dismissed her opinion.

"You're just thinking about him so much. It's not him. If he's alive, wouldn't he come back? The news of our coming wedding is already on the papers. What husband, in his right mind, would allow his wife to get married with someone else?

If he's still alive, Jia, I would willingly retract from our wedding, no matter how painful it would be. "

____

On the other hand, after his meeting with kuya Nap and his dad, Jim and Hailey went to Jian's school. He wanted to see him before they would go back to Mushmis Island. He saw Jia's car outside the school's gate so he parked on the next space beside her. Her car was not heavily tinted so he was able to watch her as she leaned back on her seat and closed her eyes.

He also overheard as she and Jian talked, as Jia was just standing close to his window when Jian dashed forward to meet her. And he overheard them when they both confessed that they missed him...

He was almost tempted to show himself up but he thought about Anthon's heartbreak if he would. He understood the pain he went through when Jia ran away from him, when she came back to reveal their son and all those shattering moments of watching them together.

For so many times, he allowed them to be alone together, because he knew he was dying. Even if it tore him apart.

He also thought about Hailey's effort for him which would just end up wasted if he would. She sacrificed her life for him and she delayed her research progress because she chose to stay by his side to assist him in his recuperation. If it were not because of her, he would have already been rotting in his grave.

He thought about his commitment to help Hailey in her advocacy. He thought about the miracle of his recovery...

And finally, he made up his mind. Since he was already dead for almost three years now, as they believed it to be, and since he was able to endure the loneliness of being separated from them for more than two years now, he decided to just let it be...

After all, he had confirmed at this very moment that Jia, indeed, loved and missed him... and so his son. At least, he still had sweet memories to live by.
