Gregor sat on the far left William sat in the middle and Ni Li on the right.

"Tell me young master to which family do you belong? You have mentioned before you are not a lord but surely you belong to a prominent family in the city?" asked Gregor

"I-" William was about to respond but was interrupted

"Tell me guild leader Gregor, is there some ulterior motive to the question you've just ask my young master?" asked Nin Li with a smile on her face

Both William and guild leader Gregor were surprised by Nin Li's question. Gregor recovered quickly

"Ulterior motive? None at all, I was simply making small talk" replied Gregor calmly

William remained quiet trying to figure out Nin Li's sudden question.

"Really? it almost seemed like you couldn't wait to ask it, it almost seemed like a political question to me" replied Nin Li as she stared at Gregor with a polite smile

"He he it would seem you are too sharp for me young lady" replied Gregor as he chuckled

"What's going on guild leader Gregor?" asked William

"It would seem you have a good servant young master" replied Gregor while still chuckling

"Does that mean you do have an ulterior motive for asking me such a question?" replied William attentively

"Ulterior motive? I suppose so, you need not worry young master it's nothing malicious" replied Gregor with a smile

"I'll be the judge of that" replied Nin Li

"I apologize if I've offended you my lady, it was wrong on my part to invite you here with a hidden agenda" replied Gregor

"I knew it, it's too odd that you would invite a total stranger to an event such as this. You must have paid a fortune for these seats guild leader Gregor, if that is who you even are? I've never met a guild leader so young, of the apothecary guild no less-" replied Nin Li but was interrupted

"Nin Li! Calm down, let him explain himself first" replied William

"No she is right to question my motives young master. To be honest with you, I wasn't planning on attending this event. I only purchased the tickets after meeting you" replied Gregor with a sad smile

"Will you give us a moment until the auction starts please" said Gregor as he looked at the servants by the door

The servants walked out and closed the door.

"We can talk now, although were on the balcony a silence spell was casted so those beyond the balcony can't hear us" said Gregor as he pointed at the people down stairs and other balconies.

"Please explain" asked William

"Yes, the truth is I am the guild leader of the apothecary guild here on the Feros city branch. In fact, I was the youngest guild leader ever when I became guild leader two years ago. My achievement was my own merit by working really hard from a very young age. I started studying at the age of 3 with the help of my father and by the time I was 6 I became a medicine boy. I became an apprentice at age 12 and advanced from then on" replied Gregor with a smile

"When I finally became guild leader of my own branch I was so happy, my father was proud. Others were not, you see my father was a high ranking elder at the apothecary headquarters in Draco city. Everyone else saw my promotion as favoritism from my father." replied Gregor with a serious look.

"My father had nothing to do with my promotion, he wasn't even part of the committee that appointed me. The elders who appointed me didn't even know he was my father until after I was appointed." replied Gregor slightly flustered

"Naturally when the elders of my branch found out they immediately saw it as favoritism and claimed the committee knew all along about my father. They all complained but eventually settled down without filing any official complaint, for fear of my father I suppose. That is until two months ago..." said Gregor then momentarily paused.

"Two months ago my father died in an explosion with a number of elders, they were on some secret project in the wilds. I don't know the details exactly since headquarters had everyone seal their mouths about it." replied with a devastated look on his face.

"My father's corpse was probably not even cold yet when the elders of my branch started talking to officials of Feros, soon most nobles were already on their side. They filed for a review of my position as head of the guild two weeks ago, the hearing is in two weeks." said Gregor with an angry look

"I don't see what I have to do with any of this guild leader Gregor" replied William.

"When I found out there would be a hearing; I immediately tried to setup a meeting with some of the nobles in the city, but none of them would meet with me not a single one. I know that some of the most prominent families have the ears of the nobles, but it's so hard to meet with them they're all so busy that to schedule a meeting with them takes months. I was feeling defeated, I couldn't get anyone to just hear me out" said Gregor with a desperate face.

"So when you saw the young master, you thought if you can't get to the nobles themselves you might be able to get a meeting with them through their children." replied Nin Li

"When I saw how you were purchasing all kinds of medicinal pills most of which would be useless to you simply because they were expensive. I knew you must be the child of one of the nobles, or at least one of the prominent families" replied Gregor with determination

"Sorry to disappoint you guild leader Gregor, but I am neither of those things. As you already know I am not a noble, nor do I belong to any prominent families" replied William calmly

"But you seem so wealthy... back at the guild you were purchasing the most expensive pills we had in stock" replied Gregor shocked

"That was..." William paused momentarily

"I had conned some thugs out of their money, they sent some people to follow me so I wanted them to see me spend their money" replied William with an awkward smile

"You wanted to show some thugs how you were spending their money..." replied Gregor shocked

"Sorry I am not who you thought I was" replied William trying to comfort Gregor

"So that's it, everything I've worked for, my father. They're all gone..." replied Gregor as if all life left his body.

"Don't lose hope, I'm sure I can help you think of something. You still have time, you said there's two weeks still until the hearing. Look for now let's just enjoy the auction, don't give up" said William trying to comfort Gregor

Guild leader Gregor just remained quietly. The two servants knocked on the door and slightly opened it.

"Guests the auction is about to begin, our apologies but we have orders to remain inside while the auction is in session." said one of the servants from outside the door

"Yes, come in" replied William

The two servants entered the room and positioned themselves on both sides of the chairs, a human girl on Gregor's side and an elven male on Nin Li's side. The human girl was in her early 20's she had black hair and pale skin a nice figure quite beautiful really. She was wearing a white shirt with a black bow tie, a short black skirt, black stockings and black leather shoes. The other was a male elf with blonde hair and green eyes, slightly tanned skin healthy physique and a handsome face. He was also wearing a white shirt with a black bow tie, had black dress pants and black leather shoes. They both stood at attention with poise.
