"Hey! Long Zichen!" Shen Tianyu walked into the Manager's Office the next day, pulling Rong Jian by the hand. She had asked him this morning if he had any clothes he could wear to the banquet to which he responded with a no after some thought. So Shen Tianyu dragged him to ask fro some robes to borrow for the banquet since they couldn't just buy a random set off the street nor could they have one made in a day.
"Yes, Miss?" Long Zichen looked up with his usual stern face.
"Do you have any clothes that could fit him?" She pointed at Rong Jian beside her. "He needs clothes for the Welcoming Banquet tomorrow." Rong Jian frowned but didn't say anything. He didn't want to borrow another man's clothes for this but it was true they had not other choice. Long Zichen's brows also furrowed imperceptibly. This Miss of his was really asking for something difficult, though, not that was so poor he couldn't gift they boy some clothes.
"I will go see." He finally said, putting his brush down. He then started to walk out of the room. Shen Tianyu released her hold on Rong Jian and he followed Long Zichen with some unease.
On the other hand, Shen Tianyu walked back to her room and had a servant send a message to Wuchang from Lotus Pavilion, asking her to come over if she wasn't busy. By the time, she reached her room Wuchang had also rushed over, though she still looked perfect with not a hair out of place and her chest wasn't even heaving. As expected, it was an easy feat for her to rush over here from Lotus Pavilion, no matter what they were both in the same city after all.
"Are you not busy?" Shen Tianyu tilted her head at her and asked with a half-smile.
"Nothing is more important than Miss." She replied as she walked closer. She was still dressed as glamorously as the last time they saw each other. "So, what did Miss need from me?"
"Ah, come in first." Shen Tianyu pushed open the wooden doors to her room and invited Wuchang in. The other obediently followed and closed the door after herself. Shen Tianyu walked to the closet on the side of the room and opened the door. "I need to attend the Welcoming Banquet tomorrow and don't know what to wear, can you help me?" She turned to Wuchang. This time, it was Wuchang's turn to tilt her head I confusion. She didn't worship her Miss and think she could do everything, but most of these clothes were picked by her Miss with a purpose for each. It was rather strange that she was asking for help on deciding what to wear for some minor banquet in some back country kingdom. In fact, all the clothes fit her Miss perfectly and accentuate her different qualities so, no matter what she wore, she would look good.
Seeing her subordinate tilt her head, Shen Tianyu more or less guessed her thoughts. "You have been stationed here the longest, and as a woman, I'm sure you pay more attention to the fashion trends than the others. I have not been here for long so I do not know what is fashionable right now and what isn't. It wouldn't do to stand out too much after all." She tried to explain.
Wuchang nodded her head in understanding and muttered an "Excuse me" before stepping forward and going through her closet. She explained the more recent fashion trends and pointed out what could be worn tot he Welcoming Banquet. Though it is unlikely for fashion to change too drastically, subtle changes are always running through the nobility. Sometimes, it is pure and lively clothes, sometimes, it is elegant and noble cloths and so on. Women especially, changed their preferences very often as they had to look good for both their family or lovers and themselves. In the end, after trying on different robes for a whole day, they finally settled on one for the Banquet tomorrow. It was a graceful, long, blue robe with sewn peach blossoms and branches. The neck and wrists of the robe was covered with white fox fur. Attached to the waist was a silver pendant withe two white tassels to match. It wasn't too fancy but it matched with the current elegant and noble style.
By this time, Rong Jian had also finished picking out his robe and had been waiting for her outside. He had knockied on the door and asked to be shown what she wanted to wear but was refused. Shen Tianyu told him, "Wouldn't it be better to leave it as a surprise?". That night two people slept with different moods. One was anxiously awaiting the dawn, while the other was relaxed, happy to have resolved a problem.
The Welcoming Banquet would be held at night, so the participants had nothing to do for a whole day. Some were doing some last minute shopping for clothes or accessories. Some would rather stay inside and sleep in. Honestly speaking, Shen Tianyu was the latter. She never had much ambition to look beautiful as she believed what mattered was the inside so she didn't want to bother going out to shop for new accessories when she already had so many. Why waste money when you could use it for something more productive? Like saving to buy medicinal herbs or cultivation treasures? However, she also couldn't laze about in bed all day. So she decided to get out of bed late in the morning and help with some work for once. She went to help out at the Office of Lavender Palace since she didn't want to go outside.
