They went back to their own rooms after eating, Rong Jian to take care of unfinished matters and Shen Tianyu to laze around. They also slept separately for the night, much to some of the servants' relief. Even if she wasn't declared the Mistress of the residence yet, the servants didn't dare slack off in serving her, though. She was the first female to be allowed into the Wangfu aside from the female servants. And even those were few compared to the men, mainly because some would get overconfident and get ideas that they shouldn't have. In other words, a lot of them ended up trying to seduce him or try underhanded tricks to marry him, but ended up getting kicked out or worse.

This was all stuff that the main maidservant assigned to Shen Tianyu had told her. The maidservant even talked about how Wangye(1) never let any other women in, not bothering to hide anything. This was an old maidservant about forty or so, to survive this long, she obviously had tact and she had long seen the way the Wangye looked at her was definitely different from how he looked at any other women, including the Empress. She was an old woman and had married a manservant of the Third Prince's residence. She had long recognized his looks as affection. As long as things went well, this young maiden in front of her would be the Mistress of the Fourth Prince's Wangfu.

"All these years must have been hard on you." Shen Tianyu smiled at the old maidservant, standing with her head bowed. She herself was laying down on a chaise as she listened to the old maidservant.

"Not at all. To be able to work for Zhu Wangye(2) is an honor accumulated from eight lifetimes of fortune." She replied smoothly.

"You are so old now, is it not hard to take care of the home and work here? I'm sure the Fourth Wangye can award you enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your life." Shen Tianyu was somewhat worried about the old woman's health. In her world, it wasn't rare to find people working even in their sixties, but this world's culture must be taken into consideration. Of course, the Physicians and Pill Masters were geniuses in medicine and can sometimes even prolong lives, but such services are usually only available to the rich upper class. Most of them have become proud from all the attention and wealth that, even if they started out wanting to help the common people, they end up just like their colleagues, only chasing after money and wealth. Like that, naturally people like servants, would never be able to afford those services. Don't think just because this world had cultivation that everyone was going to have a long life. In actuality, only a few handful of people are able to cultivate. Most people are normal people that have a relatively short lifespan. In fact, this old maidservant who's already forty, can be considered a wise elder by the common people, some of which barely live past twenty.

"Not at all! I have seen the Fourth Prince grow up, it is really not hard work to assist the Master in managing the household!" The old maidservant seemed to get a fright as she stated, panic-stricken.

"Ah, no, I don't mean it in a bad way." Shen Tianyu languidly waved her hands from side to side. "I'm merely worried about you. You're already forty, and non-cultivators don't have that many forty years. You've worked for so long, isn't it time you take a rest and enjoy yourself? I'm sure you also want to spend time with your children or grandchildren, right?"

Thunk!

Th old maidservant knelt down in front of her hard. Hearing the noise it made, Shen Tianyu grimaced in pain. She hurriedly swung off her chaise and squatted down in front of the old maidservant to help her up but was refused.

"This old servant wants to apologize for being blind. The Young Miss was clearly worried about me yet I had taken it as malicious intentions. This old maidservants wishes to apologize for her foolishness!" She then proceeded to kowtow to the squatting Shen Tianyu.

Shen Tianyu herself was only worried about her offhandedly yet didn't expect to be treated like this by the old maidservant. Flustered, she tried to stop her. "It's fine! It's not like you talked back or anything! Besides, you've never met me so of course you wouldn't know what kind of person I am. It's a good thing to be cautious! So, please lift your head! I'll be even more troubled if you end up hurting yourself because of this. How would I explain it to Rong Jian and your family?"

"Young Miss is kind, it was this servant who has been foolish." The old maidservant finally stopped and got up with Shen Tianyu's help.

"It must have hurt when you knelt down like that. Even my knees hurt from hearing that sound. Come on, sit down now." Shen Tianyu helped her over to one of the more ordinary looking chairs. With that said, even such an ordinary looking chair probably cost more than the old woman's whole lifetime of salary. Probably because of that, she refused for a while but Shen Tianyu was insistent and even ordered her to sit. What else could she do but cautiously sit down, trying not to get the chair dirty?

After the stubborn old maidservant finally sat down, she returned back to laying down in her chaise. "You guys too, fell free to sit down. Think of it as doing the chairs a favor, they must be sad that they haven't been used in so long. Such appliances are made to be used, not for decoration." she said with a smile on her lips.

Seeing that she had practically forced their leader to sit down, all the other maids also sat down cautiously, not wanting to have her order them to sit too. Unfortunately for the guards right outside the door, they couldn't come in to sit. And Shen Tianyu wouldn't give them seats either. Their job was guarding the door, it would only inconvenience them if they sat.
