"I don't play around them in that way! I only bring them happiness!" The second prince looked offended that his older brother would ever think that.

"How would we know? One of these days, I bet there will be a woman who comes out claiming to have your child." The first prince continued to berate him.

"And you two were making fun of me. You still haven't gotten a wife candidate?" Rong Jian interjected.

"Don't mind them Yu'er, they're always making jabs at each other." The Empress left them to be and turned to Shen Tianyu again. "Speaking of which, where are you from?"

"I am from Nang Zhou. Though, I am from somewhere far away, I have heard much about you, Empress." She replied calmly as if there wasn't a raucous argument going on right next to her.

The Emperor and Empress of the Rikui Kingdom in Dong Qi, partly because of their sea trade, are known far and wide and are seen as idols in other, lesser kingdoms like Nang Zhou. The Emperor, Kuian Guoliang, a wise ruler who vales both his people and the merchants that drive the economy, and therefore, the wealth of the country. The Empress, formerly Rong Xiaoli, who used to be a female general during the war between Rikui Kingdom and the Tianan Empire but eventually became the Crown Princess then the Empress.

The Empress especially, being a fearsome general whose name later caused even the bravest enemy general to tremble in fear not only because of her physical capabilities but also her unconventional and unpredictable strategies. Yet, she later became a proper lady, a Crown Princess at that, something no one would have expected of her and her reputation. She even became a model Empress, only indirectly interfering with politics when she needed to, but mostly confining herself in the Imperial Palace taking care of her sons and niece-turned adopted-son. Even when her maternal family was wiped out, she didn't lash out and demand answers from the officials and the Emperor, instead citing that it was a consequence of being at the forefront of a war. Though, she rarely interferes with politics, may new policies since the war were accredited to her, especially the ones concerning the rights of women within her kingdom. Some speculate, it was these unconventional policies that caused the kingdom to flourish on an unprecedented scale since it's founding. Female merchants, female officials, female teachers and scholars, were freed from the previous conservative social obligations and allowed to freely pursue their craft. As always, such drastic changes earned heavy backlash also, but the ones that prevailed have achieved much more than their male counterparts, making others contemplate if the surge of female talents have propelled the country at least five years ahead of it's time.

Aside from the massacre of the Rong family, the Rikui Kingdom has remained peaceful for decades following the war, allowing their economy and society to flourish even more. It would certainly be called the Golden Age in the history books of the future for even people now were calling it the "Golden Age of the Rikui Kingdom". After all, they had pushed back the most powerful nation, militarily, at the time so who dared to attack it? And the only one able to contend with them were healing their wounds from the losses.

"Oh my, it's an honor that my name has spread so far." Rong Xiaoli, currently Kuian Xiaoli as she's married, held her cheeks with a smile on her face and a bit of an embarrassed blush.

"Not at all. It is my honor to meet such an distinguished person, mother-in-law." Shen Tianyu smiled with a bit of warmth. Initially, her achievements despite her gender was what drew her interest in the woman. Later, there was an added layer of mystery about how easily she integrated back into normal society. If it was so easy to go from the battlefront to the streets of the capital, there wouldn't be so many veterans of war suffering from the variety of mental illnesses back in her former world. Even if the Imperial Palace was a battlefield in a different sense, the effects of hardcore war usually affected someone down to their personality. They might be more brash or prone to physical violence or become lost in how to navigate nobility. Perhaps it was because she was a strategist, so the Imperial Palace as the biggest battleground for strategies and wits was like home to her. However, it must also be noted that she settled into her role as a home-oriented mother quite easily.

"Oh dear, you overpraise me. I'm merely someone that wants to aid my country." The other woman responded.

"But that is the motivation for a lot of famous heroes. One shouldn't be denied of their achievements just because of their motivation. I believe, without mother-in-law, Rikui Kingdom would have most likely lost the war, if your absence didn't make it last longer." Shen Tianyu continued to praise her.

"What a flatterer! You're almost as good as your second brother-in-law! Jian'er, where did you find such a fluent lady?" The Empress questioned Rong Jian.

"Er...this..." Rong Jian worriedly glanced at Shen Tianyu. Honestly he found her at a brothel but her position wasn't some mere courtesan, as he has experienced over the last few months they spent together. Because of the social stigma of the sex work industry, he didn't want to shatter the good impression she had given the family.

Shen Tianyu merely smiled at him, mouthing four words. 'I believe in you(1).'

Rong Jian gulped and took in a deep breathe to calm himself down and to give himself time on how to break this to his family. He couldn't lie, as it could easily be investigated, and neither did he want to lie to this family that has done so much for him. Even if he did manage to lie today, her position wasn't low within Lavender Palace, they would see her having contact with them sooner or later and he had no intentions to imprison her in his Wangfu either. That was not the love he sought and he did not believe such possessive behavior to be love.
