Bai Longtian's punch to the stone was much more powerful than any previous applicant and the dent stayed longer than before. Shen Tianyu cocked her head. Though the physical strength of cultivators naturally heighten as they advance in levels, someone at the Meridian's level shouldn't be strong to such a big degree.

'Is it true that he's Intermdiate Stage then? Thos epeople back at the Sword Array said as much... those two really are talented. Though one of them is quite awkward.'

Ningwu Liushan came next and his result was pretty much the same. However, the results of the next few people weren't as great, shutting up the people who started to grumble that the stone pillar had deteriorated due to the previous damage.

'Is this Spirit Iron? I've only seen chunks of it, but to think someone could find a whole iron pillar of it... or was it made into an iron pillar? It's somwhat unbelievable that it's so smooth when it's naturally made. But then again... nature can be miraculous like that. Hm... but I didn't hear about them owning a whole pillar of Spirit Iron, maybve I should ask Lavender Palace. Or upgrade our information network.'

Spirit Iron was metal that could stop spiritual power. But whether it does that by absorbing spiritual power or deflects it elswhere is still under research.

'If it absorbs, then how does it absorb? It will be interesting to see. Maybe I should test it out.' She thought as she clenched her fist of her crossed arms. 'My score in the Sword Array should be sufficient enough to cover for this if I do fail, in the rare chance. Though I don't think my physical strength as it is will result in a fail even if I don't use my spiritual powers.' Her score in the entrance exam was indeed important but there was not only one assessment. And besides, with this rare chance of using someone else's belongings to test her ideas was something she didn't want to let slide. It was hard to come by Spirit Iron because it always developed in dangerous places in addition ot being rare. Even the more wealthy powerhouses might not have any Spirit Iron, much less Yaodu, who only started concerning themselves with threir finances recently. It was mostly by connections and luck that they were able to get their hands on a chunk the size of a human finger. And despite the enthusiasm of the academics at home, they never actuaslly tried anything with it. At most, they tried to examine it's properties, because they were aware how rare it was and that they might not get anither chunk to work on if it was destroyed.

'I'm not sure if that's their conscience speaking or their researcher's greed speaking, though.' She sighed as she thought of the old, enthusiastic academics back at Yaodu.

"Next." The officer of this station did not have the booklet of their numbers so he couldn't call their numbers. But if their order was mixed up during the assessment, the applicants results would be mixed with someone else's too, so everyone went up when they were supposed to, regardoless if they felt ready or not. The person that went up was the boy that went right before Shen Tianyu during the Sword Deaprtment's assessment. Knowing she was next, Shen Tianyu lined up behind him and took a breathe. His result was the same as the other people immediately before him, average. The officer recorded it into the booklet he was holding onto. Of course, the officer at the Sword Department's assessment had one too.

"Next." The officer of the Fist department assessment repeated.

Shen Tianyu stepped forward and gathered her spiritual power in her muscles, below her skin so it didn't flow out, and punched the iron. There was a shockwave in the form of a wind that blew her hair back. When she retracted her hand, there was a huge dent on the iron pillar, much bigger than even Ningwu Liushan and Bai Longtian's, the size of a big wash basin in the Spirit Iron with the center being the deepest. The officer stared at the dent, then looked at Shen Tianyu, in utter shock with his mouth hanging open. She shyly scratched her cheek. "Um... sorry... was there a problem?"

He snapped out of his shock to reassure her. "Oh. No. There's no problem. Sorry about that." And hastily wrote in his booklet before continuing to stare at her.

"Um. Alright then... I'll take my leave..." She hesitantly responded as she turned and walked away.

She could hear the next applicant calling out to the officer to ask if he could start his part of the exam. There was no response but she reckoned the next person wouldn't be able to take his test for a while. It might take a while for the pillar to go back to normal from that dent.

Only when she left the area of the Fist Department's assessment, did she look at her right arm as she clenched it, the one she used to punch the iron pillar. 'Hm... doesn't look like I broke anything. Good. I punched it with all my strength in case it absorbed the small aount of spiritual power I had gathered up too, but I didn't expect it to not have any reactions... looks like it only affects the spiritual power on the exterior? I'll have to tell those old geezers this when I get a chance to.' She released her hand and continued on, unaware of the people who were still staring at the direction she had left in, their gazes mixed with fear and amazement.

...

When the officer had finally returned to his senses enough to continue with the test, he checked the pillar to make sure it was still alright in other places. If it was damaged, it'll affect the true scores of the following applicants and they'd need to make a whole new test for them to find out their true strength, which would be a bother for everyone involved. Fortunately, he didn't see any cracks on the iron pillar so he allowed the next applicant to go. However, when the applicant punched the iron pillar, cracks started forming all over at a rapid pace and the whole thing collapsed. Thankfully, both the applicants in line and the officer were aware enough to jump back when cracks started forming and were able to watch the falling debris from a distance away.

"T-This... I don't have such strength, I swear." The applicant waved his hands in front of him with a panicked look on his face. Ine might be happy to take credit for this as thid oculd be considered s pass with flying colors but this was a pillar that was unaffected by spiritual power. One didn't need to think too much to realize it was extremely valuable. If he was chased after for destruction of school property, he wouldn't be able to pay it back even if he sold his soul! He wasn't from a rich family or anything after all.

"It's alright." The officer held up a hand to calm him down. "I and the elders know it wasn't you. It was likely that the girl from before destroyed the inside of the pillar to the verge of breaking and your punch just added the final blow. It was my fault for not realizing the state of the pillar when I'm part of the Fist Department." He then turned to the waiting applicants, all looking at him in confusion. "I hope everyone can wait here as we prepare for a new test for you guys. We apologize for the inconvenience." And he bowed to them. Flustered, most of them tried to appease him and told him it was no inconvenience for this great opportunity. He then straightened and took the brooch he had been wearing on his lapel. It was plain but captivating in that one could not tell if it was transparent of if it was white in color.

"Elders, the pillar broke. Please send someone to arrange a separate test for the remaining applicants. I will take full responsibility for the pillar's destruction." He spoke into the brooch. Everyone was surprised at seeing him speak to a brooch, not realizing it was imprinted with the spiritual power of one of the elders and was the "camera" for the Transmission Orb at the Fist Department assessment grounds.

...

In another room, the room the elders were in, it was no longer as quiet as before as one of them was shouting instructions as the others loudly talked smong themselves. The one giving orders was the Fist Department Head, talking to his first direct disciple at the door.

"That girl is really something. First the Sword Array and and now the Spirit Iron Pillar."

"I agree. I thought she was only above average at first but to think she would destroy the Spirit Iron pillar too. She's really something."

"Old Lu's heart must be bleeding with regret and loss over this." One of them snickered. The one he referred to was the Fist Department Head.

"I wish to take her as my disciple! Such a promising lad would do great in my Sword Department!" The head of the Sword Department declared with a laugh.

"Damn Old Chen! Don't get so conceited! She clearly shows more talent in the Fist so she should be part of my Fist Department!" Old Lu hhad finished talking to his disciple in time to argue with Old Chen.

"Now, now you two. No need to fight. She still has not finished with the assessment. WE don't know for sure which Department she has the most talent in." The female elder with the warm aura tried to calm them down.

"That's right. Besides, she has expressed interest in the Medical Division as well so she might become my disciple you know." The cool female elder crossed her arms and sneered.
