Ningwu Liushan seemed to think of something as his eyes lit up. "Miss- I mean, Tianyu, can you tell me any features of that old man?" He asked her as he turned.
She scrunched her face, as if trying hard to remember something. "He... If I remember correctly... he was wearing a dirty white robe with blue and green borders. His chest had some emblem or something in blue and green. Other than that, his robe was pretty plain with no other embellishments. Um... his robe was pretty dirty when I first saw him but after some cleaning, it looked very elegant and ethereal. Um... let' see... Oh! He also knew a lot about herbs."
"What about his physical characteristics? How he looked?" He pressed on.
"Hm..." Shen Tianyu bowed her head as she tried to seem like she's attempting to dig deeper into her memory. She then raised her head with a shout. "Oh! I seem to recall he had a birthmark on his jawline. It looked like... yes, it looked like a rabbit!"
Ningwu Liushan's eyes widened even more, same with Bai Longtian next to him, but it wasn't as obvious. "The Divine Doctor..." The former murmured out loud.
"Divine... Doctor?" Shen Tianyu tilted her head to th side in feigned confusion. "What about the number one medical genius?"
"Ahem. Nothing, nothing." Ningwu Liushan looked shaken, something he probably wasn't used to feeling, and changed the topic. "But it's really amazing you could determine that by so many factors at just a glance."
Shen Tianyu gave a proud laugh. "Well, maybe." 'Well. There was more that told me about your lineage. Like the simple-looking jade hairpin you both wear, your shoes, the way you walk, your hands...'
At this time, the proctor came back, her robes as pristine as before and called for the next five people. Again, the group didn't include the trio still standing in the center of the manmade circle.
"Looks like we'll probably not be in a group." Shen Tianyu lamented. There were more than two people between her and Ningwu Liushan so they probably won't be grouped together.
"That's too bad. I really am curious about your skills." Ningwu Liushan agreed.
"Heehee. Young Master will see if you manage to pass." She returned to him, his previous words.
Ningwu Liushan gave an awkward laugh and they continued to chat about meaningless things, with Bai Longtian occassionally making some sound as contribution. When the two young men were called away to take their test, Shen Tianyu was all alone. Not wanting to bother with the other people, she just walked to the edge of the pit of the stadium and leaned on the stone wall with her arms crossed. The stadium had seats above but no one was relaxed enough to sit up in the stands so everyone just gathered at the pit, which contained both the entrance and exit. The other applicants were glancing at her when they thought she wasn't looking. The men had more complicated gazes but the women mostly all had gazes of mockery and hatred.
When the proctor came next, Shen Tianyu was included in the group of five that were called up. And, interestingly, one of the girls that talked bad about her when she was conversing with Ningwu Liushan and Bai Longtian was included. She'd seen her before so the girl was ahead of her. When the group walked up to the proctor, the girl opened her mouth to ask the proctor a question.
"Miss Proctor, what happens if someone accidentally gets injured or dies within the forest?"
The Senior sister replied to her with an expressionless face. "The Department has made sure the demonic beasts in there are not strong enough to kill you if you don't just stay still like a rock. And you are also not allowed to injure or sabotage the other applicants."
"I was just asking what if..." The girl trailed off as the proctor directed her attention away from her.
"This assesssment is for you to tame a demonic beast. It's fine if you can't get one, but it'll be no detriment if you could. The more you can tame, the more points you have. And if you don't manage to tame one, the amount of time you are able to get through the forest without gettin injured will be converted into your score. Of course, you'd get more points if you could tame a demonic beast or two. As for the ones that might alread have a tamed demonic beast, otherwise known as a spiritual beast, you are not allowed to use those to assist you as that would make the test skewed. If any of you are planning to use a personal weapon that isn't a sword for this part of the test, you are only allowed one weapon. Bring it out right now so I can make sure there won't be any foul play." She instructed them.
Shen Tianyu obediently unfurled her whip from her waistband and presented it to the proctor. "I wish to use my weapon for this portion of the test."
The Senior sister picked up the whip and swung it a few times in different directions and looked the whole thing over to make sure it was just an ordinary whip, not some spiritual weapon or anything. She then brought out a talisman and stuck it onto the whip. The talisman glowed green and she peeled it off, giving the whip back to Shen Tianyu.
"This one is good. But I will be keeping your sword for safekeeping in this case. I'll give it back to you when you pass to the other side of the forest." She held out her hands and Shen Tianyu easily handed her sword over, which she put in the Cosmo bag by her hip. Shen Tianyu furled her whip on her waist again.
The proctor looked around at everyone and made sure if there was anyone else wishing to use their own weapon. "Anyone else?" When no one else spoke up nor moved, she determined no one else was going to use a different weapon. "Alright, give me your swords, I need to check those too."
The other four people within the group made a neat line while Shen Tianyu stood to the side. The Senior sister blew on the paper and it turned back to it's natural yellowish-white color. She then did the same thing she did with Shen Tianyu's whip to the swords of the others. All of them came uo green, meaning they were all okay to use.
"Alright, follow me. I still have something I need to give you but only when we're in front of the start of the forest." She turned and the group followed her out of the iron gates that thudded closed after the last of them left the confines of the stadium. Though the Senior sister had said that, the entrance of the forest was right behind the iron gate so they barely needed to walk a few steps before they reached the forest. But the proctor continued to walk, to the side, and the group followed her a bit confused.
'Is she trying to bring us out of the view of the other applicants still in the stadium?' Shen Tianyu wondered, somewhat amused. 'Well, I turned away the moment the gates crashed down so I didn't notice.'
When the group was completely out of the view of the iron gates, to the side of the circular stadium, the proctor finally stopped. She whsitled by curling her tongue and the rustling of leaves was heard immediately after. It sounded as if a small number of decent sized creatures were approaching them. The others were a bit scared and shocked but Shen Tianyu didn't show any reaction. What appeared before them all was five crows, each with a small pouch around their neck. There was red, blue, green, yellow, and silver. The pouches themselves were about the size of a fingernail but the hemp strings hanging around the neck of the crows were quite noticeable.
The proctor turned to them. "We won't have enough time to record everything you guys say, especially if there was an incident. So, these crows will monitor you guys as you go through the forest. If you guys attempt foul plays, they will know and report it. They will also see how many demonic beasts you tamed, if any, so no point in trying to lie or anything. In fact, I will be getting your scores from them, not you guys. There's also no point in trying to bribe them, they won't take it. Don't try to tame them either, they're already contracted. If you try to bribe, tame or kill them, you will automatically be disqualified and immediately be escorted off school grounds, no need to continue with the test. Now, I'll assign you guys one of them." She pointed to the first crow, the one wit the red pouch, then at the one in their group with the smallest number, as in the first person. "You will be getting him." She went down the line like that: the second got the crow with the blue pouch the third who was the girl that talked bad about Shen Tianyu got the green-pouched crow, the yellow-pouched one to the Shen Tianyu, and the silver one to the last person in thr group.
