"Strange... there's no weird spiritual fluctuation... was that really a Transportation array then? If so, where could this be and how do we get back to the School? There's definitely a time limit. If they didn't want to fail everyone, there should be an easy way to get back via another Transportation Array... Is it in the dessert?" She reluctantly looked at the mass amount of sand outside the oasis and the burning sun in the sky. "Someone could have heatstroke if they walk around in that... and speaking of which, I haven't eaten or drank anything for the whole day... Ugh. Let's not think about that, I'll just get hungry and thirsty... Let's look around here a bit more before we go out there." She turned away from the dessert sands and looked back at the oasis. She again went around the oasis, spiraling inwards to look for clues but didn't find any. She arrived at the spring at the center like this and peered in. There wasn't anything special about the water in the spring, it looked just like regular water. There wasn't any formation or anything at the bottom of it like the fountain either. She tentatively reached her hand out to touch the water and slowly submerged her whole hand but didn't feel anything unusual. She patted around the bottom and sides of the spring only to have the same result. She sighed and took her hand out. Turning to the sand dunes outside, she lamented. "Looks like I'll have to step outside the oasis to find a way back... But the sun is the enemy of the skin for women... Well, with this kind of a body I guess it doesn't matter if I get a tan though..."

She sighed, stealign her rresolve and stood up from her crouched position and walked straight out of the shades of the oasis and into the desert. Putting up one hand against the sun to shield her eyes, Shen Tianyu began looking around the ring of sand around the oasis. Not sesnsing anything unusual, she strode forward into the endless sand.

'It's going to be bad if there's a sandstorm right now... Hopefully I won't be blown away so far that I can't find the oasis.' She thought to herself as she marched forward while swinging her head around to find a clue of how to get back to the School.

After working up a sweat treading through the sand, she turned back to find the oasis was now the size of about one block with a wide swath of sand between her and it. Gauging her distance from the beginning point and how long it would take for her to run back to it if she needed to, she turned back around. Except, the scenery in front of her was slightly different from before. In the distance was a massive dust cloud covering the wide expanse of the horizon rushing in her direction. Thinking back to her earlier comment, she started to sweat for a different reason.

'Oh no, did I jinx myself? But why did it appear now and not another time?!' She questioned the heavens as she turned tail and ran back to the oasis. She may be a cultivator but she had never had much desert training, she'd rather not try to fight with nature in an unfamiliar surrounding. Besides, the place was nothing but sand, she wouldn't be able to get a solid foothold or anything to use against it. Flying away from it was also out of the question as who knows where she'd end up? It was a better option to hang onto one of the trees in the oasis and ride it out. With her cutivation-enhanced strength, she should be able to hold still against a sandstorm as long as the tree she was depending on wasn't ripped out of the ground.

Despite trying to run back to the oasis, she wasn't making as much ground as she wanted to due to the sand itself not having much footage in the first place. The dust cloud was coming closer and closer at an increasing speed.

'Tch. Guess I'll have to fly back. Hopefully I won't get caught in some of the peripheral winds.' Shen Tianyu thought as she jumped up from the sand she was standing on. Because there wasn't much to rocket off of, she barely left the ground but that was enough for her to use her cultivation to launch herself into the air and she sped full speed back to the beginning point she had opened her eyes to. Reaching one of the trees in the inner part of the oasis, Shen Tianyu immediately dissipated her flight and fell down from the sky like a rock. As she fell down, she managed to have eough time to look back at the dust cloud that seemed to be chasing after her. In her brief glance at the thing coming closer to her, she managed to make out solid shapes within the dust. Though it raised a question in her head, she decided it was more important to get a reliable hold on something before she looked closer. Hugging the trunk of the thin but sturdy tree as her feet hit the ground, Shen Tianyu turned back to look.

'Solid shapes... aren't supposed to be within sandstorms, right? What's going on? Is this a part of the test?' She stared as hard as she could and was finally able to distinguish more shapes within the dust.

What finally came into her full view in the end, was not a dust cloud made from a sandstorm but rather, an army of demonic beasts numerous enough to cover the horizon! And the charging of those demonic beast was what made the huge dust cloud she had thought was a sandstorm!

'What the f*ck! Where did all these come from?! I didn't sense them at all!' She exclaimed in her head as she released the tree. Since it wasn't a force of nature, she was safer now. Though technically demonic beasts were also forces of nature but at least she could physically harm them, unlike weather conditions.

She ran across the grassy ground of the oasis to hide behind one of the trees on the edge in order to get a better look at them. Leaning out from the tree she began estimating their numbers and the the different demonic beasts within the troops.

'Bone Eagles, Python Rhinoceroses, Poison Dragon Rattlesnakes, Raging Fire Horses, Hell Crows, Evil Heavenly Pythons, Dead Soul Beasts, Crushing Claw Vultures, Savage Crows, Ghost Moths and even Undead Gluttonous Boars... What is even going on for such a variety of these species to charge in a single direction without fighting like that? Hm? Wait. Is that...' Shen Tianyu squinted her eyes, thinking what she saw amidst the crowd was an illusion. Confirming that it was not a trick of her eyes from the heatwaves of the desert, she widened her eyes. 'Oh my god, that is! There's a soul-Snatching Hare among them! What's that doing here? And it's even alive?'

A Soul-Snatching Hare was a hare that had died because of unjust abuse from a human and transformed into a demonic beast. They could also breed among themselves or with a normal hare to create more of them. Many people are decieved by their cute appearances but the Soul-Snatching Hares, having lived long enough to gain some form of lower level human intelligence, liked to steal a person's soul and torture it until it dissipates. Of course, it would be hard for them to weaken a person enough for them to snatch away their souls but that was where their year-round mating seasons come into play. They always "hunted" in large groups to overwhelm their prey. As for the body, once the soul left it, it would presume itself dead and start to rot after a while evn if the soul was still alive. No one knows if it's because of their hatred of humans or to not leave a trace of evidence behind, but these hares would feast on the body of the soul they snatched. That way, even if the soul managed to escape their grasp, there would be no way to aler people or tell anyone else because they no longer had a body. They didn't necessarily do these things because they had to, but rather because they could. That's why people named them Soul-Snatching Hares, not only did they steal your heart with their cuteness, they also literally stole your soul. However, these demonic beasts lived in woodlands and therefore would not be able to survive in a harsh place like a desert.

'So why was one here? And jumping alongside the other demonic beasts so energetically?' Shen Tianyu narrowed her eyes in suspicion. 'Is it the key to leaving this place? If so... then this wasn't the desert but a pocket dimension created by the Array.'
