"A fox, huh? No wonder I couldn't sense anything unusual. And to think it's a Demon Moon Silver Fox to beat. Hah." She sighed in amused defeat. Demonic foxes were always known to be exceptionally good at illusions and hiding their prescences. Of course, that wasn't the only thing they could do, but it was their most recognized ability and their most proficient one. It was more or less an ability they were all born with, no matter the actual clan or species the fox belonged to. Most of the fighting style of fox demonic beasts focused around their abiity to disguise and hide their prescence. Some could control their prescence to the point that even a cultivator would not be able to sense their prescence despite the demonic beast standing right in front of their line of sight. No wonder she couldn't sense anything no matter how much she searched before. Even with her two lifetimes, she definitely couldn't beat a demonic fox in terms of prescence sensing and concealment, the natural born geniuses who could do it even in their sleep.

A Demon Moon Silver Fox was a clan of foxes with silvery white fur and blood-red eyes. They specialized in illusions and are well-known even among the many fox clans. Their average fully-grown fox is about the height of an adult human. Not much is known by humans about their other special abilities but some say they can also control other demonic beasts and humans.

The misty Demon Moon Silver Fox gave off a laugh. "It's also rare for me to see a human child this talented. Both in the formation and combative arts."

"Stop trying to flatter me." She wvaed her hands. "I couldn't sense anything at all, it's more embarassing to call that talented."

"But you were quick to adapt to the situation. Most humans, even adults, would panic for longer than an instant when they are suddenly met with a different environment. Not to mention, you came to a conclusion about the array that brought you here and was quick to change it when things didn't fit what you knew of that particular formation." It's voice reverbrated through Shen Tianyu's throbbing head. It opened it's mouth to speak but no sound came from it. Demonic foxes understood and can speak human speech but some prefer to use telepathy to communicate their thoughts, while some just prefer talking.

"Yeah?" She asked nonchalantly. She looked around at the frozen army of demonic beasts and the sand then looked back at the Demon Moon Silver Fox. "So is this place a pokcet dimension in the Array or an illusion? Since you appeared, that means this part of the exam is over right? Whether I passed or not."

"Hm... Normally the details are not given out until everyone has passed but... I haven't met an interesting human like you in so long, I'll make a special exception." The Demon Moon Silver Fox, tried to wink at her but it just looked weird since it was in fox form and not a human form. "It's actually both. This pocket dimension is created by the Array formation but everything else is an illusion crearted by me. I'm actually the only other being in this space."

"... Everything is an illusion?"

"Yes."

"As in, those-" She pointed to the demonic beasts surrounding her, "and those-" she then pointed to the piles of corpses at her feet, "and the Dead Soul Beast and Undead Gluttonous Boar-", she pointed to the spots where the two had died and one of their corpses was still there, "-were all illusions?"

"Yes." The Demon Moon Silver Fox answered back with an amused lilt in it's voice.

Shen Tianyu dropped her pointing finger and her shoulders with a long sigh. "No wonder you demonic foxes are so famous at illusions, and the Demon Moon Silver Fox Clan is one of the well-known clans for it too. Goddamit they really felt like demonic beasts." She wrinkled her nose and pinched it with her fingers. "I can still smell the Undead Gluttonous Boar."

The Demon Moon Silver Fox gave off another laugh. "I am glad to be acknowledged by you!"

"Don't you think the assessment was too hard? How many people have the balls to bulldoze into an army of demonic beasts? And they're so real too." She put her hands on her hip and tilted her head.

"Not at all. The assessment in here is tailored to the indivudal person. How strong they are will correlate to how hard the assessment will be. If they can't overcome such a challenge, they might as well quit being a cultivator." The Demon Moon Silver Fox answered seriously.

"I see... Anyways, can I leave now? There are still other people waiting for the test." She pointed het thumb backwards to indicate a line behind her.

"Of course. I'll send you out now. Shield you eyes." It nodded it's furry head and pointed it's nose upwards.

'What, is it going to be like when I came in here?' Shen Tianyu wondered as she squeezed her eyes shut and put her hands over them for further protection. As she anticipated, there was a blinding white light that emanated from the Demon Moon Silver Fox's direction that engulfed her just like before.

When the light finally faded, Shen Tianyu put her arms down and opened her eyes. She found that she was back at the School, in front of the pole she had put her number plaque on. And her number plaque was also back in her hands.

... Within the pocket dimension...

The light had faded and the human girl was no longer there. Neither was the desert, the oasis, nor the demonic beasts. Only a lone fox with silvery white fur and glowing blood-red eyes stared into the darkness of the space. It gave a toothy smile and spoke, to no one in particular. "That girl is interesting... I hope I can meet her again soon."

... Back at the examination grounds...

She pocketed her number plaque and looked around. There still weren't any other people here except for Ningwu Liushan and Bai Longtian who were just regaining their senses. They were now a little distance from where she stood so eh walked up to them.

"Senior Brother Liushan, Young Master Bai, are you two alright?" She asked them as she approached.

"Junior... Sister?" Ningwu Liushan stared at her in shock. "Junior Sister Tianyu, you're back!" A smile bloomed on his face when he realized it wasn't a hallucination but it quickly changed into an expression of worry. "What happened to you?! There are so many wounds..."

"Go to the Medical Office." Bai Longtian gave a curt response to her question with a frown in his brow.

"Huh? Ah... I got these during the assessment." She scratched her head with an awkward laugh.

"That's right, you need to go to the Medical Office immediately, you can't let those wounds get infected." Ningwu Liushan didn't seem to hear her and began making a fuss.

"Um, I'll go in a bit but I don't see any other people here so I was just wondering how long I've been gone." She tried to calm him down enough to ask him the question that's been bugging her.

"How long? Um... You weren't gone for very long. Half an incense stick worth of time maybe..." Ningwu Liushan answered, cupping his chin in thought.

'... That short? I thought for sure at least a shichen had passed... I see...' Shen Tianyu commented to herself. She then looked up at the two young men.

"The assessment is based on your abilities so I don't have much for you two in terms of pointers, just that it's indeed an array formation and will have a core. Though I was sent back by the being in charge of the assessment rather than by destroying the core. I think it'll appear in front of you also once you have passed their assessment." She told them as much as she could without breaking the rules. It was precise but at the same time vague. And there really wasn't much she could say anyways. The Demon Moon Silver Fox said the assessment was based on the individual's abilities so these two might not necessarily take the same test she did nor in the same style.

The two young masters stared at her, dumbfounded but she didn't dawdle much more. she smiled and turned away, waving as she left. "I'm going to the Medical Office to treat my wounds. See you two when the School begins it's classes."

She walked all the way back to the Registration Hall, passing various empty buildings. She peeked in to see one of the officers was still there, maybe to lead any lost applicants.

"Um..." She made her prescence known and the officer turned toward her. It was the one that had initially addressed them before the exam started. She walked out from behind the door and bowed to him in greeting. She straightened up to find the officer was looking at her with a straight expression, not surprised nor distainful. "I was looking for the Medical Office but I don't know where it is so I was hoping this Senior Brother can point me in the correct direction."
