Bright red blood flowed from the open wounds of the "fox" standing in front of them. Soon, the red blood turned darker. Some of the wounds started to excrete greenish-red blood, others purplish-red and still others almost black blood. The "fox" was not in a good state. Nevertheless, it growled before it pounced at Shen Tianyu. Shen Tianyu raised her sword to block it and it's claws while she kicked out with her right foot. Her foot collided with the belly of the demonic beast and it flew away, hitting a tree with a yelp before it slid back down on the ground in a heap.

Seeing the unmoving beast, Shen Tianyu tilted her head. "Fox?" She simply asked aloud. From what she knew, foxes did not howl nor yelp, even if they might growl. However, she did not know if foxes howled in this world.

"That's definitely not a fox. Foxes don't howl nor yelp." Rong Jian spoke up as if answering her unspoken question.

"Then... is it a wolf?" It was bigger than a dog , but, after all, it was a demonic beast so it could be a demonic dog beast of some kind.

"Most likely. But..." Rong Jian frowned. "I've never heard of a white demonic wolf before in these parts." In other words, he's never heard white demonic wolves to exist in these weak continents, much less in this kind of place overflowing with dark energy.

There were two types of energy in this world: light and dark. Yang energy, which represented the heavens and brilliance, was categorized under light energy. Spiritual energy also fell in this category. Yin energy, which was associated with cold and earth was usually categorized as dark energy. However, because it was also associated with the earth, which is used to grow both medicinal and poisonous plants alike, it is usually considered as in between the two extremes by the masses, though it leaned more towards dark energy on the spectrum. Energy fused with negative emotions such as the energy used to grow Skull and Ghost herbs and the energy permeating the Forest of Broken Corpses, were considered purely dark energy. If left alone for a long while and with the right tweaking, that energy could eventually evolve to become miasma that burned the flesh and sucked out the spiritual energy. The poisonous fog covering the Forest of Death was a miasma that was on the verge of becoming fully fledged toxic. It currently only sucked away spiritual powers to feed itself, almost like a live entity. In a few more centuries left without disturbances, it will also start to rot the bodies of any that step into it. How the demonic beasts would survive in that environment is unknown.

Perhaps they will leave to find a new home. And it was with this hope, that the rulers of the 4 continents did not launch another attack or raid on the Forest of Death after the first failure. Sure, it had been because of the casualties that resulted from it and they were afraid there'd be a rebellion if they dared to gather soldiers to launch a second expedition. But with insatiable human greed, would they really care if the people were unsatisfied with their decision to launch a second invasion? They would just silence the opposition. It was only because there was no guarantee they'd succeed and they didn't want to risk their lives and thrones that they gave up just after the first attempt, hoping that the day would come when the demonic beasts will obediently fall into their laps.

On the other hand, some, like Shen Tianyu, thought differently. They were demonic beasts, after all, they were made up of dark energy, it would not be impossible for them to thrive in that environment. Though they also could be used to nurture the miasma, their dark energy could be some sort of identifier for the miasma to not "eat" them. When the time comes, they'd really live in an impregnable fortress.

Back to the white wolf, there were demonic beasts scattered in the secular world, but they were decidedly less numerous than what was in the Forest of Death. Some of them had particular living environments and so, could not afford to leave their homes. Those seen in areas largely populated with humans were either "pets" or, like the wolf, powerful enough to survive on it's own without being in captivity.

Shen Tianyu put her sword away and walked up to the white wolf and crouched down. She pulled out some vials from her space through her magic bag and pried open the wolf's mouth, pouring the contents down it's throat. It was currently too weak to protest as the poison had already impaired it's limbs. It watched all of Shen Tianyu's actions with resolute and determined eyes. It would not succumb to a human no matter what torture it went through!

Shen Tianyu without explaining or saying anything merely sat next to the wolf and placed it's head in her lap. It's eyes shone with a readiness for suffering, but the pain it expected never came. Instead, Shen Tianyu stroked it's furry head and played with it's soft ears, all with a contented and happy smile. The demonic wolf was about the size of an office chair from her original world and it's furry head about the size of a pillow. Her narrowed eyes continued to monitor the condition of the white wolf as she stroked it's fur. The clotted blood that had turned various unnatural shades started trickling out again and soon turned back into the original bright red. The incapability of the wolf to move it's limbs slowly subsided and it's once foggy mind started becoming clear again. The searing pain in it's organs also disappeared without a trace, as if it was all a dream. The eyes of the wolf widened in surprise like a human.

'What's going on? It couldn't be... what this human girl fed me was not more poison but antidotes to the poison? That's impossible...' The wolf didn't want to believe it. But the fact was, these changes occurred right after it had been forced to take the contents of the vials provided by the girl. Even if it was a demonic beast, it wasn't stupid. The girl couldn't have alleviated the poisons just by stroking it's fur. It didn't even feel any spiritual power from her hands.
