Chapter 15: A miraculous change overnight
While listening to Tian Lang, Xia Qin was sipping a cup of tea and smiled, “I want to see how this brat performs three days from now. I am curious if he earns a thousand taels by then.” Tian Lang said in disbelief, “How can it be, at most he’ll try to rob someone.”
Xia Qin had a murderous look on her face as her lips slowly moved, “The Bai family will be completely finished if he can’t make it. At that time, we will extend a hand towards their shops, killing two birds with one stone.”
“Oh? It seems Miss Xia has already planned for this?” When Tian Lang heard what Xia Qin had said, he laughed. Xia Qin faintly smiled, she didn’t say much. She had complete confidence in crushing the Bai family. As for Lu Feng, he was at the mountain looking at the field which the weedicides had been poured in and asked, ”Brother-in-Law, how long will it take for the weeds to go away?”
Bai Yao dejectedly said, “This will take around two hours, then you can plow the field.” Lu Feng slightly smiled, “En.” Then he went to find a large rock, and placed his entire body on it to sleep.
Bai Yao worriedly asked, “You don’t want to think of a method?” Lu Feng smiled, “It will all turn out well. Brother-in-Law, you can just watch from the side.”
The Green Spirit Fruit trees were in the process of growing slowly. Right now, there were many people watching Lu Feng did not go in the painting and he could only lie down and think about the situation regarding the trees. When he closed his eyes, there appeared to be a screen monitoring the situation of the trees.
He didn’t know why this painting fused with his body. He knew it wasn’t an ordinary magical treasure, that was why he was constantly thinking about what had happened in that basement. He then opened his eyes, Bai Yao was next to him and thought Lu Feng had thought of an idea so he asked, “What happened, did you think of an idea?”
Lu Feng smiled and quietly said, “Brother-in-Law, let me ask you a question. Could you answer it for me?” Bai Yao suspiciously asked, “Is it related to the thousand gold tael situation?” Lu Feng nodded his head, “Of course it is related.”
Bai Yao could only say, “Then ask.” Lu Feng quietly looked at Bai Yao and inquired, “There is a run-down house next to the house Yu’er is living in, what is it all about?” Bai Yao wondered, “Is this important to you?”
“Of course.”
Lu Feng quickly added, “Can you talk about it?” It was as if Bai Yao was recalling something from the past before saying, “That place was my grandfather’s house, but then he left. The things that are in the basement are all his. Everyone thought he would eventually return, so that is why there was no one living in there. Up till now it has been treated as an abandoned house.”
Lu Feng did not expect that the house was Bai Yao’s grandfather’s. He contemplated for a while before asking, “Then was he a painter?”
“What painter? Are you talking about an expert painter1?”
Lu Feng didn’t know what this world called people who drew things. He knew there was a reason for it. So he made an En sound while Bai Yao smiled, “It’s not possible, the way he painted was quite crazy so he is called the mad painter. He disappeared over a decade ago and no one knew where he went. Thus his name was gradually forgotten.”
Lu Feng made an Oh sound and nodded his head. Bai Yao turned his head around and saw the withered weeds, he said, “The weeds are gone now, how are you going to plant the seeds.” Lu Feng chuckled, “Take a look.”
Lu Feng started to dig holes in the dirt. In his hands were ten seeds, the only difference was these ten seeds had already been swapped with different ones. The original ten seeds were inside Lu Feng’s special space and had grown into trees which had produced numerous fruits. The ten seeds he had now were from the already ripe fruits which contained seeds.
As for these seeds, there was no way Bai Yao would know that Lu Feng had switched them out. As for the people observing him, they were not able to look at him closely. After sowing these seeds, he smiled, “Tomorrow we will be able to see the trees.”
Bai Yao looked skeptical and said, “How can that be, these seeds take a year to grow.” Lu Feng smiled confidently, “Don’t forget that I’m the Living Immortal’s disciple, I can make them grow in three days.”
When Bai Yao heard this, he stammered, “Y-y-you’re right.” Lu Feng chuckled, “Time to wait then.” Bai Yao was expectantly looking at the seeds, while Lu Feng continued lying on the rock. In his mind, he was looking at the fruit trees outside of the ancient house.
The thing that surprised Lu Feng the most, was the fact that the trees grew more than ten fruits each. Some trees even bore hundreds of fruits. He didn’t expect that to happen, and guessed that the extra fruits were due to the Black Soil.
However, he muttered, “Three days, not to say the least, a thousand fruits is achievable. With this kind of progress he was seeing, even three thousand fruuts is not a problem.”
However, no one was aware that Lu Feng took the Black Soil, and that he used fake seeds to deceive everyone. And so, the truth was kept from them till evening. When the Head’s servant served the food, Bai Yao frowned and said “It seems like the seeds have not sprouted yet.”
Lu Feng reassured Bai Yao, “Be at ease, just sleep for now and tomorrow they will appear.”
Bai Yao was still doubtful about what Lu Feng said. When Lu Feng continued talking, “Tonight I won’t be going back to the house since I need to keep watch. Brother-in-Law, you bring everyone back first.” Bai Yao shook his head, “No way, if you are here alone there might be some unexpected issues. How about I station some guards here just in case.”
Lu Feng did not expect Bai Yao to still care about him, he felt grateful for his concern. “If that’s the case, how about we station Ye Gu here? I can get him to guard the place, and prevent anyone from stealing the fruits.” Lu Feng suggested.
Bai Yao made an En sound, and before leaving he asked, “Will the trees really grow in a night?” Lu Feng beamed “En.” Bai Yao reluctantly went back, and soon Ye Gu’s squad arrived.
When Ye Gu saw the deserted field, he frowned “Young master, we aren’t sure as to what you want us to do.” Lu Feng chuckled, “Very simple, just bring your people to guard around the area and don’t let anyone near.”
Ye Gu answered, “Okay.” and gave orders to approximately ten guards to spread out. There were still some shopkeepers covertly spying on him, just in case Lu Feng decided to use some underhanded tricks as it got darker.
From the mountain, the town’s lights could be seen. “QingLong’s night view is reminiscent of the countryside.” Lu Feng sighed. Ye Gu heard Lu Feng’s muttering and asked “What’s a countryside?”
Lu Feng smiled and replied, “Nevermind.” Ye Gu scratched his head while a guard asked, “Young Master, do we need to set a fire.” Lu Feng replied, “There’s no need for any light, the best thing now is complete darkness.”
None present understood what Lu Feng wanted to do. Whilst Lu Feng continued, “If it’s bright, it will affect the trees. During the times that you guys are guarding and feel tired it’s fine to just sleep.”
Ye Gu hurriedly replied, “No way, we need to stand guard.” After saying this, Ye Gu brought everyone to stand guard while Lu Feng was waiting for an opportunity.
Meanwhile, at the Bai Family house, Bai Yue called for Mistress Bai, and told her everything that happened today. “That Young Monk, although he isn’t capable, he did save our family from embarrassment at the wedding. However, now he wants to challenge our shop managers to make a thousand taels in three days, and it is uncertain whether he would win. I’d say, Yue’er, since you’re also a Cultivator, go and see if you can help him in any way.” the Mistress said.
Bai Yue was momentarily stunned before coldly replying, “Since he is conceited, why should you blame someone else?” When the Bai Mistress heard this, she weakly replied, “Then you really don’t like him?” Bai Yue calmly said, “Mother, I’m a dying person. Can you not talk to me about this, if not when I leave, I won’t be at ease.”
The Bai Mistress was still thinking of what to say when Bai Yue continued, “You should leave, there’s no need to come here. I don’t wish to see you cry.” The Bai Mistress’s eyes were moist and red as she turned away.
Bai Yue’s face was ice cold but in her mind she sighed, “Mother, please don’t blame me for my ruthlessness.” Sighing, Bai Yue returned to the first floor and saw the white cat and frowned, “What is your owner even doing?”
The white cat lazily stretched not noticing her, then continued to sleep. Bai Yue was slightly irritated, gazing at the mountain nearby and whispered, “Brat, are you that conceited, or do you actually have some ability?”
Letting her curiosity get the better of her, Bai Yue snuck out of the house, and went to the mountains. In the pitch-black darkness, she saw a group of people on the fields. In an instant, she could feel their breaths. She could also see Lu Feng suspiciously getting up.
As for Lu Feng, he decided to sleep and felt as if someone was staring at him. He slightly opened his eyes and whispered to himself, “This feeling is really uncomfortable…”
Curious, he looked around and could not see anyone. He could only continue to lie down as the feeling died down around midnight. When Lu Feng opened his eyes again, he found out that the guards were already fast asleep. After all they are just ordinary people but unexpectedly, the shopkeepers were also asleep.
Lu Feng suddenly smiled, “Looks like it’s time for me to get to work.” He started planting the trees one by one, and soon enough, all ten trees had been planted. Lu Feng tossed the ten fruits into the empty soil, just to see if it could grow more trees.
After determining that the seeds had no reaction Lu Feng quietly whispered, “Maybe the fruits have no use, and only the seeds can work.”
Lu Feng had no choice but to give up on this idea. He decided to go out tomorrow to sell the seeds he had and buy other types of seeds.
And so, Lu Feng laid down there and pretended to sleep. As dawn broke, the guards started raising a racket. The store managers who were sound asleep, were startled awake by the commotion. One by one they woke up to see the ten trees in the field, and they were all at a loss for words.
One manager broke the silence by yelling “ Quick! Hurry up and call for Elder Su!”
