Auburn Griffin (3-star)

Type: Rift Avian Class

Title: None

Skills: Precision Strike (Passive), Avian Wings (Active, Magical)

HP: 900/7,000… 850/7,000… 800/7,000

Status: Heavily Injured- HP reduced by 50 points per second.

It was glaringly obvious that the chasing Griffin was a notch weaker than the Titan Wolf. Xenith could clearly see that the attack he did, which destroyed the wild Griffin's beak, heavily affected it and was now losing a lot of health every second.

Keeping the pace with what little stamina he had left, Xenith ran further away from the frenzied beast. The little hatchling Roc instinctively followed suit. 'Did this little creature think I am its mother or something?' Xenith thought. It was not that odd if it were really the case, however, it was quite troublesome.

Reaching for his pocket, Xenith grabbed a hold of the Titan Wolf's monster core.

A bright orange rock appeared on his palm. Although it was spherical in shape, it was not perfectly rounded, leaving rough edges along its surface. Its inconsistent appearance was the norm for unrefined monster cores.

"Now, how should I deal with this situation?"

Xenith was no book genius and had no knowledge regarding rifts, cores or what not. He barely finished middle school before immediately working to suffice the needs of him and his grandpa. A young adult with no college degree backing him up, he could only settle for minimum wage jobs.

For the longest time, he had been curious about the life of being an Exterminator, a term used for New Humans with strong fighting capabilities that are assigned to deal with beasts and other creatures that appear in rifts. Now that he was technically a New Human, being an Exterminator wasn't too far-fetched of a dream.

He had heard of their lucrative lives. Even the weaker ones of the New Humans could easily earn 6000 credits a month from accepting requests and selling monster cores. Xenith could barely earn a thousand credits each month from his desk job.

"This monster core could fetch a high price in the market… But, that wouldn't even matter if I can't get out of here." Xenith muttered. It was obvious that he really needed the money.

He would not have risked his life getting this core if it weren't' the case. His reason was pretty obvious as well, "Gramps' hospital bill would be charged later this week… I really need to stop doing loans if I don't want to get buried in debts." The path of being an Exterminator was the way to go for his needed quick cash.

….200/7,000 ...150/7,000 ...100/7,000 ...50/7,000

Time ticked down, eventually wearing down the Auburn Griffin, killing it.

Continuous notifications flowed through Xenith's consciousness, flooding him with utmost shock! He had anticipated the kill, but not the rewards that followed after. As far as he knows, monsters, beast and any rift creatures would only mostly drop cores.

Rewards? Xenith had never heard of such occurrence except during quests, but those "rewards" were something entirely different from what he was receiving right now…

'What's going on?' Confusion was apparent on Xenith's face.

Without thinking further, he immediately opened his status page to inspect the 'rewards'.

New Human: Xenith

(Status: Awakened— Low-ranked Rex)

Rank: 0-star

Rift Rank: 3-star (1,000/4,000 exp)

Job: None

Rift Job: None

Rift Power Rating: 30,000

Innate Talent: Experience Equals Mastery

His mind nulled as his thoughts buffered, Xenith was simply baffled— his mouth was wide agape. 'What the hell is going on?... Why do I have two of everything?' It certainly took more than a glance before Xenith could make out a single sliver of sense.

Everything that does not have the "rift" in it, which means those words that weren't added from his previous status page, remained the same.

"So, does that mean that these jaw-dropping powers would be limited within the rift?" Xenith concluded. The words somehow confirmed that he was indeed within the world opposite the rift and not just an isolated danger zone on Earth.

"If it's the case then… this stone is?" One of the rewards immediately piqued Xenith's interest. And no, it wasn't the core—

High-grade Rift Summoning Stone— Spawns a 10-star rift (Rift type at random). When used within the Desolate Plane, sends back the user to Normal Plane.

"Bingo!" Finally, an escape route presented itself to Xenith. Albeit, Xenith had to suck in a deep breath due to the details of the reward— "A 10-star rift… When would the need for me to even use this thing ever appear beside now?"

It would be like courting death! Not just for him, but it would be most likely the doom of Shen City. A single 10-star rift could easily plane a developing city like Shen City, even more so when the city itself doesn't even have a single prominent 10-star New Human.

Besides, for his escape, Xenith wouldn't be thinking of using the remaining 4 stones.

The other two items were self-explanatory as well,

High-grade Beast Repel— Repels beast with 9-star threat and below

Auburn Feather Gloves (Uncommon)— Amplifies wind-based magic by 1%

The repellant was simply amazing, especially for the feeble Xenith. The third item, however, was useless for him. Xenith could only move on. A familiar amber orange rock appeared on his hand. His second monster core; and it was of the same grade as before!

'This two cores should be enough to pay for the entire bill… Grandpa, I'm coming.'

---

The scene of another rift appearing startled the gathered masses.

The crowd of reporters and the rest of the media crew immediately scrambled around, further away from the rift. But of course, they did not flee entirely. The appearance of a rift is always a juicy story. News worth covering.

They could not take coverage of the previous one, however, as it was restricted by the Xin Corporation. Albeit public organizations had bits of the news, which the corporation could not entirely stop.

'What luck!' The thoughts of the reporters and Xin Jung somehow aligned. The appearance of a second consecutive rift seemingly felt like a blessing instead of a disaster. "Now, what would this rift be? The organization had not reported of any upcoming one this soon, wonder if its a random variable…" Xin Jung muttered, opening the doors of the black limousine.

At the very end of the same road he was situated, a rift was forming. However, Xin Jung could not feel the energy a normal rift would be emitting. "What kind of rift is that? I can't even feel a single presence…", As a 4-star New Human, Xin Jung has been exposed to rifts more often than anyone present would believe.

Albeit he was someone within the business of Xin Corporation, he was the least to stay within any sort of office, and have done more fieldwork than his colleagues. "This couldn't be any higher than a 10-star threat, right?" If it were the case, he should have been overwhelmed by such presence already.

The rift was indeed very peculiar. Xin Jung stood still, keenly observing the situation.

Two mismatched silhouettes finally emerged from the pitch black rift…

"Little one! Why did you follow me?"
