The door to the lounge had already been loosened and dented; it wouldn’t be long before the zombies would break in. Either the outcome will be for the pair to become a delicacy for the zombies and die or  turn into zombies themselves.

Fu Cao frowned. If Chen Ju was the only one here, she would have definitely left directly without a little hesitation.

But then there was little Lin Xiaoya, who was only five years old. Even if she was determined not to be the same as she was in her last life, her heart couldn’t bear for a small child like her to face such a scenario.

Besides, the zombies were still trapped inside, so it would be a piece of cake for her to take the pair somewhere safe.

Fu Cao placed her hand on the counter’s metal surface and tapped it gently. “Want to come with me?”

Her voice was crisp and loud, which made the woman trying to shrink under the register freeze. Chen Ju cautiously poked her head out, yet after adjusting to the darkness, she could only make out a slender silhouette in the dim light.

Amusing enough, what she did know was that zombies were unable to talk. So the one before her ought to be a human.

Fu Cao looked at the woman’s haggard face, all fatigued and dispirited. She could tell with a glance that, during all this time, this woman dared not to eat more than necessary, but even though she looked like this, her beauty and grace did not die.

She looked more like a young teenager than a five year old’s mom.

Fu Cao stood there, waiting for their answer. If the woman said yes, then Fu Cao would directly bring them out and send them to the university. After all, it was set in stone that the university would become a base for survivors later.

The deal was, they would have to give some food, and then only will they be provided a  ‘city entry fee’.

Like how in the later days, survivors who wanted to settle in the base would have to pay for food or crystals to get in.

Chen Ju pulled Lin Xiaoya closer to her and held her as tightly as she could when she heard the door behind at the edge of being slammed open with a thud. She glanced upwards with her lips pursed, her face crumbled as she saw zombies slowly coming. She was confused; it was scary outside, but she didn’t know how long the lounge door would hold up now.

If the zombies make their way out of it, then she and her daughter would surely die.

But she was aware that the danger and horror out there was the same. She wasn’t sure if she would be able to survive; her only concern was that she wanted to protect her daughter. She was in a tight spot, stuck between the devil and the deep sea. Either way, the choice she faced was woven in unknown dangers. Chen Ju tried hard to calm herself.

A few seconds later, she said, “I’ll go with you.”

Instead of hiding here in fear and living like a gloomy rat, she thought she might as well pull herself together. After all, she had a daughter to protect. Maybe there would be more people out there, and maybe they would help? She was going crazy staying here and no way had the courage to take her daughter out.

After she calmed down, she knew the one who spoke before in front of her eyes was a young woman as soon as she heard her voice. Chen Ju knew that such a woman might not be capable of much, but what she was lacking now was just a small push of courage.

And apparently, Fu Cao’s presence gave her this little bit of courage.

“Let’s go then.” Fu Cao led the two of them cautiously out the door, inadvertently taking out two backpacks from her space as she passed the snack stalls. Anyways, Chen Ju and Lin Xiaoya couldn’t see clearly in the dark.

“Now, pack some food first. There’s a good chance you’ll be short of food and hungry when we get out.” Fu Cao took out a backpack and threw it to Chen Ju.

Perhaps because there was a stranger present, Lin Xiaoya did not say a word. She only tugged at her mother’s clothes and pursed her lips.

“Thank you…” It was already good that she was taking them out, but to think she’d help strangers this much, there was a faint heat in Chen Ju’s eyes.

Chen Ju couldn’t see clearly, but she knew it was all food here. So, she haphazardly packed those two large bags before slowly following Fu Cao out.

On the way out, Fu Cao slammed the door behind her.

The electric car still stood near the doorway. Although it was a small electric car, there was plenty of space for Chen Ju and a five year old. Because Chen Ju was starving and skinny and Lin Xiaoya’s frame was very thin and frail, the car wasn’t crammed at all.

The closing of the door just now had obviously caught the attention of the zombies, and two or three of them were already there surrounding the room.

“Come on up.” Fu Cao got into the electric car, twisted the key and hurried to Chen Ju and Lin Xiaoya.

The first time she saw the zombies coming, Chen Ju’s heart reached her throat. She hugged Lin Xiaoya in a panic and rushed to get into the car. Fu Cao drove the car and headed straight out.

Because, this time, someone was beside her, Fu Cao did not release her spiritual power and those zombies, who smelled something delicious, followed behind their car in droves.

Fortunately, there weren’t many zombies that chased, and Fu Cao reached the east gate of D City University without a hassle.

His whole body tensed up at the sight of the zombies behind them. However, he still hastily picked up the walkie-talkie and reported to Zhang Zhongmin. He knew the situation was special and naturally had to handle it in an appropriate way now.

The car was not only fast, but also left the zombie behind by a large margin. She stopped the car in front of the school gate and yelled, “Open the door.”

The boy on duty shuddered at her command and pressed the door several times before it slowly opened a small slit. Fu Cao, who got inside the school, then frowned at their speed and roared, ”What are you waiting for? Close the door!”

Except for Lu Xun, who was still in the squadroom, students rushed over to get a glimpse of what was happening.

“Goodness! A zombie!” A group of people in trainees heard the situation and dashed over and stood behind Zhang Zhongmin like densely packed sardines.

As they got closer, the smell of so much food excited the zombies who roared loudly, as if beckoning their friends.

Zhang Zhongmin frowned. ”What are you guys doing out here? Back to training!”

“Yes!” The trainees who wanted to watch the show had to stand down.

Chen Ju was a bit confused. She had been sitting in the back seat while hugging Lin Xiaoya as she tried to process what was going on for a moment. Her brain kept on repeatedly warning her about the many zombies chasing behind her.

She was in a moment of great regret till now and thought it would’ve been better if she hadn’t come out.

But it didn’t occur to her that Fu Cao, this stranger she met, would take her to the school, and by the looks of it, there were a lot of people here.

Chen Ju pulled the two backpacks on her back and stood nervously, hugging the child still in her arms. She was unsure of what to do.

Zhang Zhongmin looked at Chen Ju for a second, then turned to look at Fu Cao with puzzlement.

“The ones I found on the road, so I brought them here.” Fu Cao didn’t explain much. Besides, she was sure that with Zhang Zhongmin’s upright character, he wouldn’t complain about having a few more mouths to eat.

If he was really that selfish, he wouldn’t have stayed in school. She was afraid; it wouldn’t have been any safer to guard few of their active duty soldiers acting alone than a group of students.

“Liu Guoan, you take them to register and make arrangements for a place to stay.” With that said, the zombies soon arrived at the school’s entrance.

“Yes!” Liu Guoan smiled kindly and led Chen Ju, who was still in a daze, towards the school.

However, Chen Ju hesitated and looked at Fu Cao with some unease.

“Go for it.” Fu Cao smiled. It was as if those two little pearly dimples gave Chen Ju a sense of security, and she relaxed and smiled gratefully, “Thank you.”

If not for her, Chen Ju would never have had the courage to come out. Probably she would have just waited and waited for the zombies to come out, stuck in that place forever till she had died.

There was a slight wetness in her eyes.

Zhang Zhongmin has already led the men out, and after having an actual battle with the zombies, they have been working a lot better with some tacit, all running in different directions, causing the few zombies to separate and chase them.

    It was quickly settled.

The white crystal nucleus was wrapped in a layer of black liquid.

Zhang Zhongmin had put on gloves long before they were ready to tackle the zombies, hence, he didn’t have to worry about getting black blood on their hands.

Since it was not known whether the zombie’s blood can infect someone, it was best to be cautious.

Fu Cao stood to the side without moving, and the boy from before also glanced at Fu Cao. He was not convinced.

“Why are you just standing here, neither moving nor helping? Those are the zombies you lured here!”

Hearing the boy’s disgruntled voice, Fu Cao simply turned her head to look at the boy talking, who was as dumb as a goose.

But after one glance, she didn’t spare him any looks and turned to look back at Zhang Zhongmin and other soldiers.

They were agile with good foundation, while their martial arts technique was all about being swift and never breaking. Since the movement of the zombies was much slower than normal, the already agile Zhang Zhongmin and company were a lot faster compared to the zombies.

The zombies that followed them were not that many under Fu Cao’s deliberate control and were quickly solved.

“Did you not hear me?!” Watching her standing quietly, the boy was so exasperated he almost fell on his back. Damn! What kind of woman is she? Why invite zombies to school when it was her who was in trouble?

    How ungrateful!

Zhang Zhongmin and the group of people were sweating profusely, yet they didn’t even dare to wipe the sweat from their foreheads, afraid that the blood would get on them.

Fu Cao put her backpack down and took a few towels out of it “Wipe the sweat off.”

Looking at the black blood all over the gloves they were wearing, she paused and spoke again. “The viruses of the zombies are concentrated on the nails and teeth, and the toxins in the blood are very slight and generally not easy to catch.”

“Thanks.” Zhang Zhongmin took the lead and grabbed a towel as he wiped his sweat viciously.

Since the weather kept getting hotter and hotter, even if you didn’t stand in the sun for long, it felt as if your skin was going to burn.

“What’s all this noise?” Zhang Zhongmin had a dark face. After all, even though the few of them were killing zombies outside, it wasn’t difficult for them to hear the two arguing in front of the school. Whoever came in definitely would not be comfortable, let alone have a good impression.

“Captain Zhang, I’ll talk about it. If it was not intentional to bring zombies to school, then what was it? When she messed with them, she ran here? While there were so many people in our school!” He didn’t react right at that time, otherwise, he would have never let Fu Cao inside the school.

Now that he thought about it, he regretted it to death. This kind of person.. he should have let her be eaten by a zombie.

Zhang Zhongmin’s face darkened even more when he heard it. He didn’t even glance at Fu Cao, but directly turned to look at the boy, his eyes emitted a cold light.

The boy who faced Zhang Zhogmin shivered, but he still felt he was right. If anyone could bring zombies here in the future, wouldn’t the school be in danger all the time?

Zhang Zhongmin smirked. ”You mean, if there will be a situation of being under siege by zombies, we should just run off into the distance so we are safe and let you die alone?”

The boy was dumbfounded, that’s not what he meant…

“Or, should we just lock you out of the gate and wait for you to fend for yourself if you’re ever chased by zombies in the future?” He did not wait for the boy to speak and dropped the bomb again, knocking the boy straight out.

“How can it be the same?” he hurriedly said.

“How is it different then?” Zhang Zhongmin narrowed his eyes at him. In the midst of this chaotic time, most people might have a devil in their heart, someone who was selfish and uncaring. But Zhang Zhongmin felt that, at least in this school, that couldn’t happen.

Yeah, how was that different? The boy felt suffocated. His face was red and couldn’t think of what to say for a moment.

“Listen, I don’t expect anyone to become holy fathers or saints, but only to be inquisitive and help others as much as you are able.”

“Our enemies are zombies, not our families. In this hour of life and death, all humans are our family. This phrase works for all of us to remember no matter the time of day. So, listen well, A guarded heart cannot be absent but neither can a harmful heart sustain.”

“I don’t want to hear such a thing for the second time, do you understand?”

Zhang Zhongmin’s dark face was intimidating, making the boys nodded fearfully. However, he still felt very aggrieved. “But, she didn’t even go to help…”
