Prince Lu Wei closed his eyes and steadied his breathing. He pretended to be sleeping, but his senses were awake.

As the carriage went further away from Da Cheng's territory, Prince Lu Wei was starting to get anxious. He was left alone, now that he had departed with the guards. Prince Lu Wei knew that he needed to begin to be wary of his surrounding. Since his brother wanted to harm him, Ambassador Nian or anyone around him could take their chance to hurt him.

Since he had decided to leave Da Cheng, there was no one else he could rely on. Prince Lu Wei could only hope that the people sent by his grandmother will help him escape soon.

The carriage continued to move. After ten minutes, the scenery started to change. There were no longer shady trees around them. The landscape changed to green grassland. They will have to continue and travel across the plains for almost an hour before they arrive at a small town in Eastern Zhou.

According to the plan, the people sent by his grandmother should help him escape before they arrived at the nearest town.

Just as his mind was preoccupied with his plan to escape, the carriage made an abrupt stop.

Prince Lu Wei opened his eyes and looked at Ambassador Nian. "Have we arrived?" he pretended that he had just woke up from his nap.

The ambassador did not answer. He looked out the window and immediately tensed.

"What's wrong?" Prince Lu Wei asked.

The coachman turned around. "Your Highness. A group of men appeared suddenly and stopped our carriage."

The Prince looked out the window and saw a group of men circling the carriage. His eyes narrowed as he looked at those men as he thought whether those men were his ally or opponent. Just as he pondered upon the question, the men started to launch an attack towards the Qian Rong's guards.

"Your Highness, Ambassador Nian, we're under attack. Don't come out! I will try to escape from here," the coachman said. As soon as the coachman finished, the horses neighed, and the carriage lunged forward.

Prince Lu Wei held on the side to stabilize himself.

"What's happening?" Ambassador Nian started to panic.

Prince Lu Wei felt his heart thumped loudly. A few minutes later, the carriage stopped again. The Prince tried to inquire what was going on from the coachman, but no one answered. Prince Lu Wei exchanged a glance with the Ambassador before he peeked through the curtains to observe the situation.

"Your Highness, you would make our job easier if you step outside the carriage," one of the men hollered. Looking at the way he acted, he must be the leader of the group.

"Who are you?" Prince Lu Wei asked. He observed the men and saw that they were a bunch of very skilled fighters. If he has to fight the group of men, Prince Lu Wei knew that he would definitely lose his life.

There was a sound of laughter from the outside. "His Majesty sent us here to escort you."

Prince Lu Wei hesitated. His brother sent them to escort him? Looking at the way the men dressed and behaved, there was no way that Prince Lu Wei was going to believe the man's words.

However, upon hearing the man's answer, Ambassador Nian quickly rushed out of the carriage. "Captain Mo!" he smiled with joy. The Ambassador only took a few steps forward before he suddenly stopped. "Why?" the Ambassador muttered before he fell on his knee. His hands were pressing on his stomach.

It was then that Prince Lu Wei saw a dagger stuck on the ambassador's chest. Blood seeped through his cloth.

"Ambassador Nian," the man called Captain Mo, spoke again. "The Emperor said, since you failed your mission in Da Cheng, then, you might as well don't return to Qian Rong." he stepped forward and stopped in front of the ambassador. Then, without warning, he pulled out the dagger on Ambassador Nian's chest. Blood splattered everywhere, and the Ambassador went limp on the ground with his eyes wide, staring at the sky.

Prince Lu Wei instantly closed his eyes and looked away from the gruesome scene.

"Moreover," Captain Mo wiped the blood on the dagger with a piece of cloth. He looked at the Ambassador's lifeless face and smiled. "It wouldn't be right if you return without Prince Lu Wei. If you die here, it will make the story that Prince Lu Wei and his escorts died after they were ambushed by a group of ruffians more believable," Captain Mo looked towards the carriage and tilted his head. "Don't you think so too, Your Highness?"

A dangerous glint flashed through the Prince's eyes as he heard the man's words. Prince Lu Wei knew that his brother was ruthless, but he did not expect his brother to kill Ambassador Nian and the others.

Prince Lu Wei took out a sword hidden in a compartment and took a deep breath. Then, he waited for the man to make his first move.
