Chapter 5: Daily — Have you eaten?

Before Ye Zhen Zhen lost her memories, she could have been a rich Miss who threw thousands of gold in her every throw and drove a sports car to school every day. Her favorite chant could have been buy-buy-buy. If any classmate provoked her, she could have gone to Ye Hong Sheng and looked at him with a lovable face and said, “Recently the days have been cold, grandfather.”

This was Ye Zhen Zhen’s fantasy of what her previous life was, and she also felt that her assumptions were reasonable. When an inheritance of over a billion yuan was swinging back and forth in front of her, however, she couldn’t even clearly count how many zeroes were in a billion!

This feeling was similar to a meat bun suddenly falling from the sky, but the meat bun was too huge; if one wasn’t careful, one would be crushed to death.

Ye Zhen Zhen suddenly felt panicked.

It was reasonable to say that for such a big thing, Sun Qian should’ve told her this early on, but from the moment she had woken up until now, Sun Qian had not spoken a single word about this inheritance. It if were not for her asking the nurse to give her today’s newspaper, she still wouldn’t have known that she was a wealthy woman with over a billion yuan.

Eh, perhaps a billion or so yuan was nothing in the eyes of others?

Ye Zhen Zhen turned to the side, her brows wrinkled.

Ye Hong Shen had two sons, but he bequeathed everything to his granddaughter. It was impossible for her two uncles not to have any thoughts. Even if a billion or so yuan was not considered much, it was enough to keep a dozen attractive young men as boytoys.

If it was viewed this way, then it was very possibly that the inheritance was related to her grandfather’s death. Perhaps the murderer had threatened her grandfather into changing his will, but her grandfather refused, causing the two of them to enter a physical altercation. Did the murderer kill him while angry?

Ye Zhen Zhen felt that this possibility was very high. She knitted her brows together again and turned to her other side. According to the newspaper report, her eldest maternal uncle’s entire family had moved overseas. Even though such a large event had occurred in the Ye Family, they still hadn’t returned. Although she didn’t know the reason, at least they couldn’t have committed the crime. All who remained was Sun Qian and her husband.

Did they kill grandfather? Taking into account of the fact that Sun Qian had deliberately hid the inheritance from her, she truly was suspicious. Moreover, she had always felt that this auntie’s diligent attention was over the top.

She tossed and turned restlessly the entire night, leading Ye Zhen Zhen to be dispirited and listless the next day, as evident by the dark circles under her large pair of eyes.

Doctor Ji’s gaze grew cold when he caught sight of the folded newspaper on her bedside. “Who brought the newspaper into this hospital room?”

A young nurse to the side couldn’t help but tremble. She hung her head, as if she was a primary school kid who had done something wrong. “It was me…”

Doctor Ji tilted his head to glance at her. “Is this how you take care of a patient?”

The nurse buried her head and didn’t speak. Ye Zhen Zhen forced a laugh, saying to Ji Zhe Yan, “Doctor Ji, don’t blame her. I annoyed her to no end until she gave me the newspaper.”

Ji Zhe Yan’s gaze happened to fall upon her body, his expression exceedingly similar to her primary class teacher. “I had already said that your body is still very weak and needs plenty of rest. Did you not listen to it at all?”

“No! I’ve been listening! I’m sorry, Doctor Ji. I promise not to do this in the future!” Ye Zhen Zhen anxiously tried to defend herself. If this man held even a trace of antipathy in his eyes because of her mistake, it would make her heart to beat irregularly in fear.

Ji Zhe Yan didn’t say anything; he only stood beside her bed to look down at her. Ye Zhen Zhen’s heart palpitated quickly. Pu-tong, pu-tong. It was as if she was waiting for an important judgement.

“Good morning, Zhen Zhen! Did you sleep well last night? Did you have any dreams of me?” Qin Kong’s voice suddenly came from the doorway. He sounded a hundred percent upbeat.

Ji Zhe Yan withdrew his gaze and glanced at Qin Kong behind him. “The patient’s health today is not suited for visitors. It is better if you return home, Mr. Qin.”

Qin Kong wrinkled his brows. At this, Ye Zhen Zhen saw his backdrop of roses wilting; even his curly hair drooped down. “Zhen Zhen’s health is poor? Then I definitely can’t leave!”

He quickly walked up to the hospital bed and carefully examined Ye Zhen Zhen. His eyes darkened. “Hm, they have found this place so soon?”

Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”

He sat down on a stool and held her hand as he said, “Zhen Zhen, don’t be afraid. I heard that Central Hospital is built in the heart of A City. Since it’s positioned in the center, it won’t be so easy to break into.”

Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”

She withdrew her hand and passed him the newspaper on her bedside. “In fact, I had only been reading this.”

Qin Kong lowered his head and skimmed the paper. The three words ‘Ye Hong Sheng’ were particularly eye-catching. His expression changed slightly as his gaze shifted from the photo to the article.

Ye Zhen Zhen’s eyes flashed when she saw him remain silent.

“Mr. Qin, please cooperate with our jobs.” Ji Zhe Yan stood behind him. Without any superfluous expressions and movements, his imposing manner made people unable to retort.

Qin Kong pursed his lips and stood up from his seat. “Zhen Zhen, rest well. Leave the black-clothed men business to me.”

Ye Zhen Zhen’s mouth curved. “Then thank you.”

“You’re welcome!” A smile burst forth on Qin Kong’s face. At first, he intended to bow his head to kiss her, but Doctor Ji’s stare was like needles pricking his back.

Just after Qin Kong left, Sun Qian walked in carrying chicken soup. Doctor Ji gave her the same explanation he had given to Qin Kong and asked her to leave. Sun Qian set down the chicken soup and took three steps toward the door before she turned her head to look at Ye Zhen Zhen, acting as if she was being sent off far away.

Ye Zhen Zhen swallowed her medicine, and under Doctor Ji’s supervision, she pulled her covers up and went to sleep. She didn’t know if it was because of the medicine’s effects or Doctor Ji’s gaze being very penetrating, but this time, Ye Zhen Zhen quickly fell asleep.

When Ji Zhe Yan saw that she had fallen asleep, he picked up the newspaper beside her bed. He handed it to a nurse and ordered, “Don’t wake her up. Wait until she wakes up on her own, and also, keep her far away from things concerning this case as much as possible.”

“Understood, Doctor Ji.” The nurse nodded, somewhat guiltily agreeing to his order. Ji Zhe Yan didn’t say anything else and left the room. The nurse placed another quilt over Ye Zhen Zhen before she turned to leave as well.

Ye Zhen Zhen was completely sound asleep this time. She woke up a bit faster this time around, just as the nurse happened to be delivering her lunch. After Ye Zhen Zhen finished eating her meal, she wanted to head outside into the sunlight again.

The wheelchair she had previously used was still in her hospital room. Ye Zhen Zhen glanced at the nurse as she tidied up the bowl and chopsticks and asked, “Nurse Liu, can I trouble you into pushing me outside to bask in the sunshine later?”

“Okay, Miss Ye. Please wait a moment.” The nurse smiled at her before carrying the tableware away. Ye Zhen Zhen leaned back against her soft pillows, comfortably closing her eyes.

Shortly after, footsteps sounded. Ye Zhen Zhen raised her head to see who had come in. Her expression stiffened. “Doctor, Doctor Ji.”

She found that Doctor Ji’s aura was especially awe-inspiring, exactly the same as the class teacher she had in primary school. Even though she couldn’t remember who her primary school class teacher had been, she still felt like it had been like this.

Ji Zhe Yan nodded and greeted her. “Nurse Liu still hasn’t eaten, so I will take you out, okay?”

“Okay, good.”

When they went down to the gardens later, Ye Zhen Zhen was unable to restrain herself from asking the man behind her, “Doctor Ji, have you eaten?”

Ji Zhe Yan was silent for a moment before he said, “I’ve eaten.”

Ye Zhen Zhen’s eyebrows creased together. That pause just now, why do I feel like he lied? “Really?”

“Really.”

Fine. Ye Zhen Zhen didn’t respond. Doctor Ji glanced at her and asked, “How do you feel today?”

Ye Zhen Zhen said, “The nap made me feel more energetic. Oh, that’s right. Doctor Ji, when will the purplish-blue marks on my body disappear?”

Ji Zhe Yan said, “It will fade away after several days. Don’t worry.”

An elderly lady carrying a bag of fruit passed the two of them and overheard their dialogue. She sent a somewhat complicated look at them before shaking her head and muttering softly to herself, “Public morals are degenerating with each passing day. Public morals are degenerating with each passing day!”

Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”

Ji Zhe Yan: “…”

He pursed his lips and continued speaking. “I was talking about the bruises.”

Ye Zhen Zhen nodded. “I was also talking about the bruises.”

…So then, what was that elderly lady’s brain filled with?

Ye Zhen Zhen’s expression was slightly unnatural. She was wracking her brain for another topic to talk with him about when those two policemen who had come the other day for her statement walked up to them.

Zuo Yi and Li Xin Ran were both wearing civilian clothes today, so their visit to the hospital today didn’t cause any of the patients to stand in a circle and spectate. Zuo Yi caught sight of Ji Zhe Yan and Ye Zhen Zhen. He chuckled and said, “It seems that the both of you are in a pretty good mood.”

Ji Zhe Yan, with neither a cold nor indifferent tone, said, “A lot of sunlight helps a patient’s body recuperate.”

Zuo Yi declined to comment and nodded. Ye Zhen Zhen smiled insincerely and looked at him. “Officer Zuo, have you eaten?” Coming so often to the hospital to ask for a statement, he was also recklessly risking his own health.

As if he could read Ye Zhen Zhen’s mind, Zuo Yi’s lips quirked up. He said, “I didn’t come to record a statement today.”

Ye Zhen Zhen blinked. Just as she was about to speak, she heard Ji Zhe Yan ask her, “Do you like to ask others if they have eaten?”

This line was clearly aimed at her. Ye Zhen Zhen blanked out for a moment, before she answered, “It’s not like that. For example, Qin Kong——I would like to ask him if he had taken his medicine.”

Ji Zhe Yan: “…”

Zuo Yi chuckled and looked at Ye Zhen Zhen. “In regards to Qin Kong, what is your opinion of him?”

When he was not wearing his police uniform, Zuo Yi was a bit more amiable and approachable than before. Even if his gaze was still sharp like a saber, his laugh was very gentle.

“Officer Zuo, didn’t you say that you didn’t come to ask for a statement?”

Zuo Yi quirked his lips. “You can treat this as making small talk.”

Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”

She was slightly unwilling to chat with a police officer about domestic trivia.

“Dahter Ji!” A loud, high-pitched, childish voice suddenly echoed from across the street. Ye Zhen Zhen glanced to the side and saw a little girl quickly running over, her skirt fluttering around her.

“Rong Rong, don’t run so fast!” A young woman chased after her, but before she even finished speaking, the little girl called Rong Rong had already run up to Ji Zhe Yan.

She just reached Ji Zhe Yan’s knee. Her words were a little winded, but an especially sweet smile was on her tiny face. “Older brother, up~”

“Rong Rong, you’re not allowed to be so impolite.” The woman finally caught up and somewhat apologetically looked at Ji Zhe Yan. “I’m sorry, Doctor Ji. Rong Rong has been spoiled by us.”

Ji Zhe Yan shook his head and asked the woman, “Are you visiting your grandfather Zu again?”

“Yes, Rong Rong wanted to come, so she has been making trouble.” The woman smiled. Earlier, she didn’t know why this little girl was so energetic, but now, it seemed… that she wasn’t actually looking forward to seeing her Grandfather Zu; instead, she had wanted to see Doctor Ji.

Rong Rong saw that Doctor Ji was pushing a female patient, so she turned her neck around to stare at Ye Zhen Zhen. Ye Zhen Zhen smiled faintly at her, and Rong Rong’s smile immediately grew bigger. “Hello auntie~”

Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”

“Is auntie older brother’s patient?”

Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”

Why was Doctor Ji the older brother and she the aunt? Why!!!

The woman pulled Rong Rong away and apologetically said to Ye Zhen Zhen, “Rong Rong is insensitive. You shouldn’t take it to heart.”

Ye Zhen Zhen laughed hollowly as the woman walked away with Rong Rong. Li Xin Ran watched as the mother-daughter pair walked further away, ruminating, “Doctor Ji is still very popular.”

Ji Zhe Yan didn’t reply, but unexpectedly, Ye Zhen Zhen could no longer bear it. “Doctor Ji, I heard that you’re 26 this year?”

Ji Zhe Yan nodded. “Mn.”

Ye Zhen Zhen said, “I’m 21 this year.”

Ji Zhe Yan thought for a moment, before saying to her, “I believe Rong Rong is still depending on gender to differentiate between addresses, not age.”

“What do you mean?”

“Men are all older brothers; women are all aunts.”

Ye Zhen Zhen: “…”

She felt that that this criteria had room for improvement. For example, handsome men and not handsome men.

Contrary to what might be expected, Li Xin Ran suddenly saw the light. “So it’s like how all men were called Master historically?”

Ye Zhen Zhen quirked her mouth. “Even if it was in the past, not every male could be called Master.” She glanced at Ji Zhe Yan and then Zuo Yi. “Although the two of them could be called Masters, for people like you, you would normally be called heroes or warriors. 1

Li Xin Ran: “…”

He turned his head to look at Zuo Yi with a meaningful and very innocent glance. “Leader, could this be considered insulting a policeman?

Zuo Yi shook his head. “I feel that her words were reasonable.”

Li Xin Ran: “…”
