The look on Luke's face was different, he looked scared and at the same time, worried.
As we run, we suddenly had to stop when we realize that we have nowhere to go anymore. In front of us is a rushing current downward from a steep cliff, a waterfall. Our legs froze as we looked at the altitude from where we are, down to that death fall.
"You have nowhere to run anymore hahaha!", the bandit exclaimed as he tried to catch his breath after that chase. He straightened up his posture and threatened us with his sword. His comrades caught up to us later on and we were cornered with death behind us.
Luke had to put me down and instead, he went in front of me. He looked like he was about to collapse any minute now because that chase strained him badly. Apart from that, he was weakened by the battle he fought minutes ago. I held onto his shirt as I tremble behind him in fear. I was not ready to face death at this moment.
Luke seem to realize the terror I feel right now, thates why he turned a bit and pats my head. He smiled reassuringly as he placed his hand on top of mine. "Don't worry, I will protect you no matter what."
Just when I calmed down a bit, the bandits suddenly raised their arrows pointing at us. Luke, to his surprise, moved closer to me as an arrow rapidly struck his shoulder. Luke groaned in pain as he knelt on the shallow water.
"Luke!" I shouted as I held him close, but Luke remained strong for me as he pulled the arrow from his shoulder. "This is nothing."
"Hahaha! That arrow is coated with a powerful tranquilizer, you won't be able to move any minute now!", one of them said with a victorious grin.
I felt Luke's grip tighten. As blood flows down from his wound, drop by drop, I can see how he is becoming paler and weaker. If this went on, Luke would die because of blood loss!
Think! Think Yiren! We need a plan to escape!
Luke then looked at me with a smile, as if he is trying to show me everything is okay, then he asked, "Violet, do you trust me?"
The expression in his eyes contradict his appearance. This boy who had these horns, and scarlet eyes that can captivate anyone. He looks like danger that anyone wouldn't want to deal with. No matter what, I believe his decision will lead us to the best of our fate and I did not hesitate on nodding my head. "I trust you."
Right after he heard my response, he instantly carried me in his arms and all of a sudden we are already mid-air on the height we feared minutes ago.
"AHHHH!!!"
We're going to die! WE'RE GOING TO DIE!!!
"Don't worry, we wont die." Luke said with a slight smile as he tightened his hold on me for safety. I breathed in deeply as we were about to hit the water to prepare for the impact.

The altitude a while ago and the depth we got into made me feel a bit dizzy, but Luke protected me with his body, making me receive less of the impact.
I was about to swim up for air when I realized that Luke was not holding me anymore. I turned and saw his body slowly sinking in the depths of the water. I have to save him!
I tried swimming deep towards him but my dress was slowing me down! So I took off my dress and I was left with my undergarments. I didn't care about my appearance since I look like I was wearing a pajama, instead of looking too embarrassing and erotic. This period is more sophisticated than the modern era after all.
As it was now easier for me to swim, I grabbed Luke's hand and pulled him with me as I swam up. Luckily I learned how to swim well back then in high school. I swam towards the side and pulled Luke's body away from the water. I quickly went beside him afterwards.
"Luke! Luke!" I tried calling to him but he was not responding. I placed my palm near his nose to feel if he's breathing but he wasn't! My hands started to quiver as I tried shaking him awake. The blood on his shoulder was still oozing out. "Luke!"
Calm down Yiren! You are a doctor! You need to calm down!
CPR! I tore his shirt open and placed my hands, one on top of the other, in the middle of the chest. I used my body weight and pressed down his chest, my hand slightly positioned towards the left while it sunk down the rhythmic pace.
I bent down and started delivering rescue breaths. With Luke's head tilted back slightly and the chin lifted, I pinched the nose shut and placed my mouth over his to make a complete seal. I started blowing into his mouth making sure his chest will rise. I delivered two rescue breaths before I continued compressions.
"Wake up! Wake up, Luke!" Tears were forming on the side of my eyes as I continued doing the CPR.
I blew on his mouth once again before I leaned back to compress but I stopped when I saw him cough out the water in his lungs.
"V... Violet..."
I felt my warm tears flow down my cheeks as I saw him open his eyes. I'm so useless, I wasn't able to help him... If only I was a bit stronger, more braver, the fear of facing those big bandits won't affect me... I could have been so courageous like Luke, even if I'm a C rank magician... I could have done something to help him. I'm a fire user, fire is an offense magic... it will still be able to hurt them even if I'm weaker than them... I just realized how idiot and useless I was after facing something so scary...
But this is a dream, right? I shouldn't be scared if I attack and lose my life, I will be able to wake up... but I won't be able to have a dream like this again so I have to avoid getting hurt, right?
"You can't just die on me, idiot! Oh I have to heal your wound!" I placed my hand on his wound and I used my healing abilities to at least do as much as I could. Being a doctor is not enough in this realm. I had to learn how things work in here, including magic.
"I... can't move my body..." He said weakly.
"Their potion might have taken effect already. We don't know how long it will be in effect but we need to hide in a safe place." I said as I continued healing his wound.
I saw that his wounds are slowly closing up. I know I am not strong enough to remove the paralyzing effect on his body with my healing magic but at least he's life is not in danger anymore.
I stood up and started looking around for a place to hide.
"Leave me." He said to me while avoiding eye contact.
"No! Are you an idiot? I will not do that!"
"Can't you see how monstrous I've become. Aren't you. scared of me?"
"If I was, I would have left you but I'm not! Monster or not, you're still the Luke I know. And besides, I already knew that you're a monster. Luke is a handsome monster, so why would I be afraid?"
He can hardly chuckle on my joke so I just tried to look for shelter in the meantime. I noticed that behind the waterfall, there were numerous vines hanging. Hmm.. I suddenly remembered Tangled. I really hope that behind those vines is a cave!
"Wait here, okay?"
I rushed to the side of the waterfall and jumped from one stone to another until I was behind the waterfall. I moved the vines aside and bingo! It is a cave!
I went back to Luke's side and started dragging his body with me. If someone saw us, they would definitely laugh at the scene. A small girl was dragging a body of a boy taller than her.
Anyway, right now, that's not important. I bet those bandits won't stop from looking for us.

The cave was dark because the vines that covered the entrance of the cave was thick that even light couldn't enter. Maybe because it's already evening outside and the moon's light is weak.
Being a fire magician also had her benefits. As I light up the cold shelter, I am silently hoping there aren't any snakes inside this cave.
Luke was now leaning against the wall to rest and I was sitting beside him. The small fire on my palm was our only source of light inside but it helped warming up our bodies even a bit.
"Daddy will definitely come for us so don't worry, Luke." I said as I rested my head on his shoulder.
Luke was still in his ogre form but I didn't want to look at him since surely I would end up staring at him for the longest time and I wouldn't be able to stop myself from admiring his face. That won't be good. His devilish charms increased in his ogre form after all.
After what I said earlier, I noticed that Luke became really quiet. I don't mind though. He exerted his power to his limit earlier that's why he needs plenty of rest now.
"Thank you... for protecting me." I said softly as I stared at the fire on my hand.
"I won't be able to face our father if I let anything happen to you. Besides, you're someone important to me." His voice was really gentle this time, it wasn't the usual teasing or brotherly tone he has.
I giggled softly after he said that, "I'm your pretty little sister after all."
"Indeed."
I wanted to see his face, just this once. I promise to control myself and not to stare at him for so long. So I raised my head and turned to face him. "I'll always be by your side so you don't need to worry."
Ah.. Luke is so handsome. His skin looked so fair and his ears were long. I reached out and touched the horns on his forehead. "Do you have a tail too?"
"... We ogres don't have tail." That seemed to insult him a bit. I chuckled.

"We eat human flesh and drink their blood." He said as he looked directly in my eyes.
"Oh! Have you tried eating one? What do human taste like?"
He didn't answer me, instead he kept on staring at me for a long while before his lips curled up. "I haven't tried one. Only my ancestors ate humans. The modern ogres like me stopped hunting for humans a long time ago."
"I see. Anyway, Luke, even if you're an ogre or not, you're my family. I know human can be cruel and selfish but I will never betray you. That, I promise you." I raised his hand and wrapped my pinky finger around his finger. He turned and looked at our fingers wrapped together and he smiled a bit.
I know how cruel mankind could be and I don't want to be the same for Luke. He is my first friend in this dream. He listened to my problems and he even protected me with his life. Ah, why aren't there guys like Luke in the real world?
Now that I think about it.. this dream seemed so real. How long will I continue living in this dream?

I pouted at his boring answer but I continued admiring Luke's features. "You're really not afraid of a monster like me? I can attack you anytime and we love the blood of a young maiden." "I thought only vampires drink blood? " I tilted my head, confused. "We eat human flesh and drink their blood." He said as he looked directly in my eyes. "Oh! Have you tried eating one? What do human taste like?" He didn't answer me, instead he kept on staring at me for a long while before his lips curled up. "I haven't tried one. Only my ancestors ate humans. The modern ogres like me stopped hunting for humans a long time ago." "I see. Anyway, Luke, even if you're an ogre or not, you're my family. I know human can be cruel and selfish but I will never betray you. That, I promise you." I raised his hand and wrapped my pinky finger around his finger. He turned and looked at our fingers wrapped together and he smiled a bit. I know how cruel mankind could be and I don't want to be the same for Luke. He is my first friend in this dream. He listened to my problems and he even protected me with his life. Ah, why aren't there guys like Luke in the real world? Now that I think about it.. this dream seemed so real.
