Brutus strode towards the living beings called humans with his staff in hand after his master commanded to engage them.

He keenly observed the humans and noticed fear inside their eyes.

Brutus understands why the living humans would be afraid, that's because the humans have seen that their attacks have no effects whatsoever, and they had no choice but to freeze and stare. Also, the thought of death only added to the reasons why the humans are afraid, after all, the living fears death, especially when death itself is closing into them.

It would be fine for Brutus to exterminate the humans without them resisting, but it seems his master wants the humans to resist against him and the other guardians.

Thus, the humans have to free themselves from the fear that is taking hold of them.

Brutus does not know the reason why his master sought to annihilate this town. However, it doesn't matter if he doesn't know. He thought that his master must have a reason for this, so there's no need to ask questions about the purpose of attacking this town, what he needs to do is follow the commands of his absolute master.

Even if the order is to exterminate every living being in this area, Brutus will gladly do it. It will all be a trivial task for there are no strong entities within the ranks of the humans. Also, killing this many of enemies won't be big deal for him, he's undead after all – well, it won't also be a big deal for his comrades.

Brutus will be able to kill the humans without feeling anything for them. All he cares about are his comrades, mostly his almighty creator Nightfall.

In contrast, moments have passed and Brutus has already done several steps, but the humans showed no changes.

With the humans showing no signs of resistance, he stopped walking.

Are they not going to resist us?

He thought.

The humans have not yet moved a muscle and just only staring at them all this time.

I understand they are afraid, but is it really alright in their case to not resist and fight for their lives? Isn't it there's no other way to get out of their current situation? I guess that is just how they are. However, the master seems to want them to resist, so they must do so. But can I do something about it? I am their enemy, so there may be no way I can make them fight.

Brutus thought.

Brutus peered unto the humans while contemplating what he could do.

Should I provoke them by attacking them first? That is highly likely to work, but there is also a possibility that it will only make them more afraid.

He tried to decide whether to engage them or not despite the possibilities.

I'll do it then, it would be better to try.

He raised his staff, but halfway he stopped because suddenly there was a voice he heard in the far distance.

"Aren't you supposed to be soldiers? Then be one, fight the enemy right in front of you, be the warrior that you are, or is it that you people chose to be cowards instead? Then there's no point in you for being soldiers. You have no place to go, no escape, so there's no choice but to fight!"

The voice may be far away from him, but the area where he and the guardians are in is an open area so there would not be anything to block the sound so that means he can hear the voice. Of course, he also has a superhuman hearing to an extent, so that helped in hearing the voice.

Brutus knew exactly whose voice that is.

Sagremor… Looks like he thought of a way to provoke them. The words he said could help in making the humans resist. However, he is far away for them to hear his words here.

Of course, the human soldiers in the part where Brutus is won't be able to hear Sagremor's words, perhaps can but too barely for the words to be deciphered.

Then a static voice can be heard from the ranks of the human soldiers.

"Soldiers! Muster some courage, the courage to defend our home, the courage to bring peace to us once again. Do not let fear consume you! The enemies are in front of us, which means we can shoot them. Do not let them do what they want! Our peaceful lives will return when they are gone, so soldiers, fight until your last breath, do not lose hope! Fight for your friends and family!"

Brutus heard the words from the radios of the soldiers.

Then after that, the soldiers began to shout.

"YEEEEAAAAAHH!"

"WE"LL FIGHT UNTIL THE END!"

"FOR OUR FAMILY!"

"WE WILL NOT GIVE UP!"

"OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH!"

The soldiers shouted energetically with motivation within their eyes, but it didn't have any effect on Brutus, it's like he doesn't care about it even just for a bit.

However, what gave him joy is that humans can finally fight back, and that would just probably give appropriate results to his master.

With the humans finally have the resolve and motivation to engage him, Brutus moved onward towards the humans.

As he strode closer to the humans, he noticed that some of the humans are distracted.

He turned his head to where the soldiers are looking at and he realized that a lot of humans are gawking at Criswell.

Beings of the light really are… alluring.

Brutus thought.

Criswell's majestic glamour made the humans gawk at her and it seems they're prepared to worship her. He thought of it as something expected.

I should say it is expected. After all, the master gave her the beauty and the form that even extends past the heavens above. I should also say the same to Adrasteia.

Brutus thought.

Brutus may be an undead that has no affinity and whatsoever towards living beings, however, he can still acknowledge his comrades.

After that Brutus moved on heading towards the humans.

As he got closer, some soldiers began to point their weapons at him and placed their finger on the trigger. After a few seconds, they opened fire.

Magic particles and bullets flew from the humans' weapons, multiple loud sounds of weapons being fired rang out from within the human ranks as they continuously fire at Brutus. Of course, the attacks were nothing.

Brutus noticed something, however. Not all humans were shooting at him but were still gawking on the beautiful ladies created by the Dark Lord.

Being distracted is unwise, foolish humans.

Brutus thought.

Being distracted in the middle of the battlefield would only bring negative effects. Within a battlefield, no one must be distracted no matter what are the circumstances, and what the humans doing here is foolish – no, too foolish.

However, after a few moments, a mass body of divine light suddenly gave a significant damage to the human defenses. With that, a lot of humans began to return to their senses. Thus, they began to open fire to the enemies who are going to mercilessly kill them without even making a big deal out of it.

Seeing all the humans finally began to fight back, Brutus felt glad and smiled a little behind the mask.

When he got closer to the human defenses, an armored vehicle fired at him. As the projectile from the attack of the armored vehicle hit Brutus, it blew up and covered his sights. Of course, he is unharmed from the attack.

Annoyed, he swung his staff and blew off the smoke that was covering his sights of the surroundings.

In order to not let the tank fire at him again, he summoned undead monsters to aid him.

"[Summon Bone Golems]."

Then three bone golems suddenly appeared close to the defenses of the humans.

The golems that were summoned are three meters tall with skeleton humanoid body shape. The head was like those of humans, as well as their body, however, its teeth were large and its fangs were larger and sharper, and its feet were not like humans but rather its feet were like almost similar of a bird in form, it has three toes – or rather three sharp claws.

The golems have a scythe-like pair of arms – which are made up of bones – that can pierce and cleave through the heaviest of armors. Its shoulders have rising curved sharp bones which look like can cut easily through anything. It has a dreadful pair of blue glowing eyes within their empty eye sockets which seems to not even see the living humans as something significant, but rather something lower than little animals.

The soldiers were quite frightened when they saw the monsters all made up of bones.

A golem was so close to the tank, and immediately the golem raised one of its arms and swung it downward piercing the tank like a piece of paper. With the sharpness of its arms and its strength, of course, it would be easy. However, the golem is not yet finished, it raised its other arm and swung it down, again piercing the tank like it didn't worth any effort. With that said, all operators inside were also killed.

"Now, annihilate any human that you see."

Brutus ordered the golems, so they followed.

Brutus can order them mentally because they are summoned units, however, he chose to deliver the order verbally because it is clearer that way.

The golems easily crushed the futile defenses of the human soldiers. The monstrous creatures then swept their deadly arms around, everything caught up within the blades made of bones got cut like a piece of paper.

"RUUAAAAR!"

One of the Bone Golems roared.

As the human soldiers heard the monstrous roar from the monster, the hairs on their body stood on edge. The roar sounded like an echoing voice with a bit of high pitch and sounding like how a dying person would be – a person losing air as their body processes stopped working and their last breath went out.

Adding the fearsome, skinless visage of the golems only increased the fear within the hearts of the soldiers. However, they did not give in to fear.

Many soldiers tried to shoot the giant monsters down but every one of their attacks only managed to give a scratch on these abominations. However, the humans still didn't stop fighting despite their weapons having little effects.

Soldiers doing their best to fight no matter what, this could be a scene where brave heroes tried to destroy the evil beings with the appearances of death.

However, the golems did not give a single piece of crap. The lights on their eyes which looked at the humans coldly and perceived them like insects meant to be annihilated, didn't give any care about the heroic actions the soldiers gave. The humans are nothing but targets.

The golems spread out and slashed every living being around them.

Bodies which are cut in half flew away from where they were originally at with blood spilling and flying to the ground and even at the soldiers. It was a horrible sight. The golems seemed like they were just cutting grass and were doing it like it was an everyday job.

Brutus casually looked at the remorseless slaughter.

Brutus strode forward until he passed over the broken defenses.

In the far front of him, he saw a group of soldiers trying to shoot down the golems. Then Brutus mentally ordered the golem to step aside and find different targets, and the golem complied.

The humans were surprised and puzzled when the golem was just about to swing its arm it just moved on from them to another place. The soldiers looked confusedly at the golem as it moved away from them, then they looked they looked forward and saw a hooded masked man holding a fearsome looking black staff on his right hand.

Brutus extended his left hand a little towards the humans.

"[Necrotic Mutation]."

Green trails then appeared on the ground all around where the six soldiers are. As the soldiers saw this, they started to feel anxious because they don't have the slightest idea of what those things are, but there is one thing they do know – it's dangerous.

With the feeling of danger, the soldiers decided to run away from where they are standing and away from the green trails. However, just before each one of them could take a step, they felt something on their feet. Curious, they nervously looked down to their feet, what they saw shocked them and caused them to get more afraid than before.

The green trails were crawling on their feet, and as the trails rise up, it went inside their bodies but were still crawling up and spreading. As the green trails reached the middle part of their bodies, the soldiers began to feel pain.

"Aaarrggh."

All the soldiers cried in extreme pain.

They felt like knives were cutting their insides as well as needles striking some parts of their body.

"AAAARRRGHH"

"AAARRGHH"

When the green trails have fully engulfed their bodies, the pain increased more than before. They held their heads with both of their hands, that is because it felt like their head was more painful than the rest of their bodies.

They felt like their head was being crushed. Their brain being carved by countless blades. It was an incomprehensible pain.

Then their skin began to change into the color of grey and their body lowered leaving their heads and arms dangling.

"Raaargh."

They groaned, however it was no normal groans but rather lifeless ones.

Then their body raised.

The other soldiers looked at the six, and what they saw caused to be horrified.

The faces of the six have no emotions whatsoever but rather how a dead face would be.

The eyes were dead, totally different from when they are alive.

"Raaargh."

Again, the six groaned then turned their faces towards the soldiers that were looking at them.

When the six saw the living humans, they immediately rushed towards them.

The humans stopped their breathing for a moment without them even realizing it.

As the soldiers saw the dead faces of their once allies, and how they were acting and moving. They have come to realize what they have become.

They have become something from a fantasy, something that does not suppose to exist. Things that were depicted to bring the word into pandemonium as well as into apocalypse. One word and one word only to call these creatures that were once living beings.

"Zombies."

One of the living humans muttered.

Before they could do anything else, one of the zombies already reached one of the humans. Then the zombie grabbed one of the soldiers and they fell to the ground. Immediately the zombie bit the soldier's neck.

"No!"

One of the soldiers shouted in fear. Then the soldier shot the zombie multiple times resulting in heavily damaging the zombie and shot its head. After that, the zombie fell lifelessly as it should be.

However, before anything else, the rest of the zombies have grabbed the soldiers leaving one human.

The soldier tried to shoot down one of the zombies feeding on one of his allies and was successful. After that, something caught his attention.

The first that was attacked by a zombie began to move and stand up. Then it groaned and looked at him. The soldier was shocked and extremely frightened causing him to freeze and tremble.

This is a scene he never even wished to see in reality.

The zombie rushed towards him and when the zombie was closing in on him, he forced himself to shoot it down and magic particles damaged the supposed to be corpse. But it was too late to further damage it, the zombie already reached and grabbed him then started to consume the soldier.

"AAAAAAAAAHH!"

The soldier wailed in agony, then he died.

Zombies are one of the weakest creatures so the soldiers could easily kill them, the hit on the head was a critical hit and gave a heavy damage causing the annihilation of the zombie.

The zombies may be one of the weakest creatures, but when they increase in number or there are a lot of them, that is when they become fearsome and deadlier.

The zombies then finished taking a snack and moved on to other targets. Of course, they didn't consume the entire corpses, that is because they need to increase their numbers, well they did that because Brutus ordered them to do so. If there is no one to command the zombies, they would just feed on the corpses as long as they can and will only move on when there's a living being close to them.

Brutus looked at the chaos in front of him and was entertained.

He chuckled.

"The pandemonium and chaos are so satisfying and entertaining."

The living humans were being slaughtered like little animals. The golems slicing the multiple humans at once like meats to be used to dinner. The zombies devouring the humans, causing them to cry in agony and fear. Then humans giving their futile resistance to the earnest, but to no avail. Well, they have nothing good to ever received, to begin with.

Brutus smiled behind the mask on the chaos and pandemonium before him.

Suddenly, a particularly loud bang rang out.

Then something hit Brutus – rather hit his defensive shield. The object gave a strong impact and was different than the others. This surprised Brutus.

He then looked in the direction where the projectile came from, and what he saw were multiple humans shooting from the walls.

Brutus pondered what just happened.

What was that? Hmmm… It seems like a bullet. Well that was strong, where and whom did that come from?

He peered into the wall.

Argh, never mind. It didn't damage my protection anyway.

There are many humans shooting from the wall, and Brutus didn't want to waste thoughts on the humans. They're going to die anyway, so he moved on.

He spread his arms.

"Suffer and die for my Lord and Master, inferior lifeforms!"
