Altair saw the Barndol Bear from around a tree and examined how it attacked the Karp Crab. She had never seen a creature like it before. It appeared to be a creature that relied on its power and mass to deal with its prey and other predators. It could probably run extremely quickly as well and, by looking at the thickness of the trees around her, she was sure it could knock them down if they were used to try and attack it from the treetops.

Altair's heart beat excitedly as she eyed the bear with an eager gaze. She couldn't wait to hunt it and put her back to the tree as she hid around it. She took a deep breath to calm herself down as she thought about a problem with her trying to fight such a beast.

Since her Mana had vanished on her this morning after just tapping into it, she had regained half of her current total capacity. But that wouldn't help her at all if she couldn't use any of it. If she couldn't use any of her Mana than it would be foolish to even attempt to fight such a creature.

She reached into her Mana pool and tentatively burned the smallest amount of Mana she could to see what would happen.

And nothing happened, unlike in the morning.

With that information in her mind her eyes beamed brightly with renewed fervor as a dark smile crept across her face. She peered back around the tree and to observe the creature again and look for an opening.

The Barndol Bear was still playing with the Karp Crab. By now it had viciously torn off most of its legs and its pincers. It was like a cat playing with a mouse as it ignored Altair's and Rience's presences.

Since it wasn't paying attention and actively ignoring her, Altair started to walk up to it with a steady gait, but also quiet steps. She was well trained in sneaking around so when a beast was distracted it wasn't that hard to approach it unnoticed.

She walked within striking distance and examined it up close. The beast was ridiculously massive compared to her and she held the short spear in both arms ready to thrust it into its side, but she paused before doing so. She looked over its body for a good starting strike that would weaken it for the fight ahead and realized that it was mostly pointless.

She didn't know the anatomy of this bizarre beast before her. She could only guess where its muscles were and thrust the spear into the nearest hind leg. She even used some of her Mana to make sure she punctured into the beast since the spear was mostly blunted anyway.

The spear penetrated deep into its hind leg and the bear quickly looked over at her while roaring at her aggressively.

Rience had watched the whole string of events happen and his mind blanked by how absurd it was. He saw a dainty little girl in a dress not fit for combat walk up to the Barndol Bear and proceed to stab it in the leg. She did it while hesitating slightly and that only furthered the ridiculousness of the whole situation. It was like watching a stuffed teddy bear walk up to kid and stab them with a knife, if the teddy bear was Altair and the kid was the Barndol Bear.

He did have to give Altair credit for being brave though. To him, she was brave but stupid.

The Barndol Bear quickly spun around to swipe at Altair but she quickly backed away with the spear in her hand and focused on the beast before her. She had hunted a lot in her old world. The Demi-Human Survival Coalition couldn't trade with Humans for fear of being betrayed so they had to live off the land. The supplies that were ambushes were often used by their roaming army.

Since they were unable to farm for food, they had to live in a more hunter-gatherer lifestyle. As such, Altair was required to hunt for her own food the moment she was able to kill snakes. Since she favored melee weapons and a skirmisher fighting style that meant that she had to fight larger beasts up close like now. She had even had to hunt before she could use her Mana properly for Magic.

However, there was still a large difference between now and then: she was still able to use Body Reinforcement Magic whereas now she only really had her skill and sometimes lightly using her Mana for this engagement.

She didn't think she could lose if she was cautious though. Her opponent wasn't a thinking and intelligent person but a beast that hunted and acted on instinct. She just needed to get a feel for how it attacked then she would be able to turn it into mince meat, or so she hoped.

The Barndol Bear glared death at her before it started to stand on its hind legs. As it reached the apex of its height Altair narrowed her eyes as she thought, 'Yup, about as big as a giant alright.' She then turned her body sideways to reduce the area she could be attacked at and held the spear before her.

The Barndol Bear then suddenly dropped downwards towards its left as its hind leg gave out on it. The wound that Altair delivered on the first strike had successfully crippled it.

This caused Altair to grin wickedly at it and she immediately dashed around towards its wounded leg. Since it was wounded on that side it would have its ability to turn in that direction hindered slightly and would constantly feel pain as it tried to keep her in its sights. Eventually this would probably incite it into a rage which would make its attacks easier to predict, thus being easier to avoid.

The Barndol Bear wasn't about to just let Altair slip around it. It swung out with its paw to swipe at her before she could out maneuver him.

This attack came faster than Altair predicted. The Barndol Bear was a lot faster than she thought it was. She couldn't avoid the attack because she was running towards it and it was coming towards her so she leapt up slightly into the air and held onto her spear with all her strength as she jabbed it towards his paw.

The paw hit the spear and sent Altair flying away from the Barndol Bear. It was like she was a toy ball hitting a bat. The Barndol Bear felt pain akin to a tack getting stuck in its paw for a brief moment before it was removed. However, the attack did not actually pierce its skin.

Altair was an experienced fighter. She easily managed to land on the ground ten meters away without any injury. She recovered her stance quickly as the Barndol Bear started to run towards her with its lumbering form. The wound on its leg didn't appear to be slowing it down at all as it barreled towards her.

Altair focused on its movements as her heart started pumping furiously in her chest. She felt thrilled to be able to wield a weapon again in a pseudo hunting exercise. She didn't care at all for the tournament portion of the event but hunting beasts she had never seen before excited her.

Hunting was her only form of entertainment and relaxation back in her old world and she had hunted almost every single type of beast there multiple times. Now she had the chance to hunt things she couldn't even imagine. Even though she couldn't use her magic, she was still elated about it.

As the beast closed in she burned a burst of Mana just under half of the limit of what she thought she could currently use freely and danced to the side of the beast, preventing it from mauling her. She then swung the short spear in quick, short arcs at the beast's torso while dancing towards its rear, spinning the spear over her hand and using momentum more than her strength. With each swing of her weapon she sliced into the creature with planned strikes but the cuts were shallow.

The Barndol Bear quickly turned towards her and she burned a tenth of her free Mana to leap onto the beast while hitting the ground with the butt of her spear for extra momentum.

There was a loud tearing sound as the skirts on Altair's dress ripped apart near the base because she had actually stabbed through the bottom of her dress when she jumped.

The sound went in one ear and out the other as she pointed the spearhead down and nearly landed on the beast but it moved to the side when it shifted its entire body over, causing her attempt to fail. The beast shifted in a direction Altair didn't expect which resulted in her landing on the opposite side of the creature with her back to it. This caused a chill to run down her spine as she considered if it was an intelligent creature like a Dragon.
