"Care to explain?" They were once again in the heart of the instance, starring at James's dungeon's actual core. The last time they had visited, James had been awestruck. This time though, he was more surprised, and confused, than anything. All around the area, it appeared little…mechanical…things? Were moving to and fro, building…something. The closest thing James had to describe them as, were futuristic little robot rover type things.
"Those are your probes. They are essentially tiny builders that you gain access to thanks to your Core Offense, and Core Defense research." And there it was, Rue explaining things matter of factly, like James should have already known these things.
"But, last time we were here, I already had level 1 complete. Why weren't they here then?"
"Ah, from what I have gathered, the research for Dungeon Wars unlocks tiered types of rewards and options. These little guys, as well as your new Offense and Defense tabs, unlock at level 2."
His new what? James pulled up his menu, and sure enough there was a new tab, Core Improvements. When he clicked on it, two additional tabs appeared, the afore mentioned tabs Rue had just spoken of. It was times like these he leaned more towards the belief she was an actual AI, otherwise, how would she know all these things before he did.
"So, what unlocked at level 1 of the research?"
"Mmmm, just a passive buff for adventurers partaking in Dungeon Wars. The odd ranks for offense and defense increase the buff percent, while the even ones unlock new features."
"And the buff does?"
"Ah. Gives your adventurers +1% to their stats when they are invading or defending. I'm sure you can guess which research option effects which of those. At rank 3, that stat boost becomes 3%, and at rank 5, it becomes 5%, and so on."
Alright, so he had a way to passively increase the abilities of his adventurers during dungeon wars. That was actually really important and useful information. He couldn't possibly fathom why Rue would have not mentioned that…other than the fact it was Rue. And she usually failed to mention things she didn't deem were important.
"Thanks for that." James had no idea what the adventurers were going to be like from BLANKs dungeon. What he did know though, was what his adventures were already capable of. Having a way to buff their stats definitely was a plus.
Considering he would have rank 5 done for all three of his dungeon war research options before the start of dungeon wars, that meant his adventurers would have a +5% to all their stats, that was definitely going to be great. Especially considering most of his player base, who were still either farming his…er farm, or had just moved to his second floor, were wearing gear that also already boosted their stats. James was starting to feel like BLANK may have made a mistake in challenging him, maybe the cocky duo had-

BLANK knew exactly what James's players were like, and also had a good amount of knowledge on the unique items that existed in James's dungeon. The duo also had advanced knowledge of dungeon wars, which meant they had to know what the research options would do. And yet, they had still boldly challenged him. So, either they were extremely overconfident in their own abilities, or they had even more confidence in their adventurers. Shit, James really hoped it was the first option.
"You alright there Gly?" Rue tapped on his floating orb, pulling him away from his internal struggles. Right. He needed to focus. He had to take care of whatever it was he had just unlocked and get some sleep. There was little he could do now otherwise to prepare.
"Yeah, sorry. Go on."
The pixie eyed him strangely, but nodded, and began her explanation.
"Right, any who. At level 2 of your offense and defense research, you unlock probes. Three for offense, and three of defense." She motioned towards the little probes, and James could see there were slight differences that split the two into groups. One group had little swords on their backs, while the others, had shields. Typical gaming notations for offense and defense. Once again, Xander's group was showing its lazy side.
"Alright, so what do they do?"
"Well, you use them, to build things." She gave him a look that literally said, no duh.
"Right. Like what?" He could always just open up the tab, he supposed, but he was curious if the pixie had any further information for him. She usually did, he just had to fish for it.
"No idea." Alright, well that wasn't helpful. "I know about the probes, and I know about the tiered upgrades, with the even ones giving you more probes, and more building options. I also know using more probes on a single building option will decrease the build time appropriately. However, I have no idea what it is you can build."
