Chapter 113

If he didn't know any better, if he didn't know how much Rue loved to win, and how much she hated Xander, James would have sworn she was purposefully trying to ruin their chances against BLANK. Why else would she do what she was doing? Why else would she choose what she had? It made no sense…absolutely no logical sense.

"You can't be serious." They were in the Avatar testing grounds, and Rue had selected her avatar to show James. He had initially been excited. Having a second avatar on the battlefield could really help turn the tides. There were various combinations that could essentially two-man entire dungeons, or at least, hold their own quite well in PVE and PVP. In the WoW Universe, that had been a thing multiple times. And, he was certain BLANK would utilize the dual avatar system to their greatest advantage.

James had planned, therefore, to do the same. Sure, his summoner class was a great solo player option, given the utility such a class could normally bring. But, with Rue having the option to create an Avatar as well, there were just so many possibilities. He could play as the magic DPS and summon a variety of pets to handle the differing situations and tactics being thrown at them, while Rue could be a Paladin, a holy healing tank that could keep him safe, and heal the both of them. And, if she didn't want to be a Paladin, a cleric could work as well, or maybe a druid. There were just so many options, and yet…here they were.

"I'm extremely serious." Normally, Rue was cute when she said that. But then again, she wasn't normally a seven-foot-tall beast kin. "I love this class." Her eyes seemed to take on a defiant pout, as she crossed her muscled, furred arms in front of herself. The beast kin were a class offered in DCO, that allowed player to take on humanoid beast forms. There were many options, ranging from wolf like beast kin, aka werewolves, to lions, and tigers, and bears…oh my. Honestly, they really hadn't been too picky on what types of mammals players could make out of beastkin, and the game had also given birdfolk, and reptilians playable options as well. Though, there were very few players that James had seen running around as part eagles, or part crocodile. The werewolf beastkin though, and catlike ones, were really popular.

"But-" James looked here up and down. She had gone with a beast-kin that seemed to take after a white tiger, a large feline that had gone extinct roughly 20 years ago. It was a large, catlike form, extremely muscled, with white fur and black stripes across its body. Her eyes were a sky blue, with black markings forming around the white fur, to make them even more intense. Honestly, it wasn't the fact she was a beast kin that threw him off… even though he wasn't sure how he felt about his counterpart being a massive cat lady, while he was a frail elf.

No, the main point of contention, was the class she had chosen. Obviously, the ideal situation, would be for her to be a tank healing class. Well, she had gotten the tank part down…but in the worst possible way for the party.

"A barbarian?" That was the class she had chosen. Literally a massive damage dealing class, that could aggro large amounts of enemies upon itself, and take reduced damage while it did it. It served in the tank role, but everyone, every single gamer in the world, knew a barbarian would only be good if there were a designated way to heal said barbarian.

"Well, actually." Rue grinned, a terrifying thing when her face was a humanoid tiger face. "I'm a barbarian berserker."

"Oh right, how could I forget." James let out an irritated sigh. For her subclass, there was the chance for her to redeem herself. She could have selected a subclass of barbarian that might actually have an ability to heal itself, or at least, tank better. Given how DCO's multiclass system worked, after all, the possibilities were endless. But nooooooo, Rue had chosen berserker. If barbarians were bludgeons for punishment, berserkers were their perverse cousins that purposefully walked around with freaking Legos in their boots.

"Look, Rue, I love you." He was speaking so fast his mind couldn't process. How was he supposed to fix this? "But come on. We have one shot at this. We have two avatar options, and you went and locked in yours as a barbarian berserker? Why couldn't you have been a Paladin? Or a Death Knight? Something that would at least be able to heal us?"

"Because I wanted to personally be able to tear BLANK limb from limb." She let out a deep purr like growl as she spoke, and James could feel the reverberations though the air, sending chills down his tentacles. Sure, Rue's new class specialized in bloodlust, but part of that had been all her. She really was rather terrifying.

"And what happens when you run out of life?" The beastkin shrugged her shoulders, as if it weren't a big deal.

"I trust you won't let me die." James was speechless. Rue, in her infinite, impulsive, ways, had just backed James into a rather unfortunate corner. There it was. She had gone and created her character, a fearsome, beastkin barbarian berserker, with the sole goal of cutting down their enemy and all who stood in their way. And, she had complete trust in James that he would be able to support her. He, as a summoner, was expected to now play the role of team healer too?

"And how exactly, am I supposed to keep you alive?" Seriously, summoners weren't generally a healing class. They were a utility class. They didn't excel at healing, or attack, or defense, but often had great utility in all aspects. Great for soloing, and with his mob options, James had figured out how he could optimize his mobs and make him great at DPS. He had really been looking forward to selecting high summoner as his subclass option. It wasn't very creative, but it gave him access to a few skills he really liked, especially the ability to use mana to enhance his mobs. But that was now out the window.

"Mmmm." Rue looked him up and down, and then revealed a toothy grin. "By unlocking a secret class."
