The workers only had only dug a corner of the tomb. The archaeologist had no idea how big the tomb was. They had to wait until the second gate was opened.

The leader, an old man in his 60s thought they had to open the gate with caution so that the contents inside wouldn’t be damaged. Therefore, they wouldn’t open the gate until they were ready. According to their investigation, no one had ever broken into the tomb, so the tomb was well-maintained. The contents were untouched, which could be a big discovery.

“Such terrible weather,” a young man said as he looked at the nonstop rain.

“Yeah, the rain is really annoying.” The old man in his 60’s looked up at the sky before going back into the tomb.

He was interested in the statues in the tomb, like the statue of the evil ghost standing in the middle of the corridor. It was very uncommon. It was his first time to find a statue of an evil ghost in an ancient tomb. After all, it was considered unlucky in ancient China. He could hardly see the point of putting it in a tomb. But, perhaps the owner of the tomb wanted it to guard his or her graveyard and stop tomb raiders.

The old man had to admit that the statue looked very real and scary. All his students were startled by the statue at the beginning.

Pictures of soldiers were engraved on both sides of the walls. It seemed that those soldiers were at war. They were led by a man riding a horse and holding a large blade. The leader looked tall and strong.

Further down on the gate of the tomb was an engraving of a conqueror and a Buddha’s warrior. It was not hard to understand that they were engraved to protect the soul in the tomb. The old man wondered what the story was behind the evil ghost statue and engraving.

As he was thinking about the statue, he suddenly heard yelling. “Help! Someone’s dead!”

What’s going on? He frowned.

His team had come across a number of problems since they started to dig the tomb. All the workers were uncertain whether they should continue or not. All that he could do was settle the workers. He couldn’t stop anyone from leaving.

“Let me take a look outside,” said one of his students, who had followed him for a number of years.

He soon came back with bad news. He looked terrible.

“Sir, a worker just died,” the student said.

Oh dear! thought the old man.

The team of diggers wanted to quit since several diggers had been injured. They agreed to continue to dig the tomb after their pay had been increased and the old man convinced them to stay. Now, someone was dead. The old man didn’t think the team of diggers would continue to work. It also cast a shadow on the archaeologists’ minds.

“This place is so odd,” a young worker said.

“The Feng Shui master said we should not dig up the tomb, but they insisted on continuing to dig,” another worker said.

“He is the son of Uncle Zhang. He’s going to get married next week. I can’t imagine what his family is going to face,” the young worker said.

The team leader of the diggers came to advise the old man that he and his workers would stop digging. They had only been digging for a few days, but two workers had been injured and one was dead. Fortunately, some loss would be covered by insurance. However, it was still bad for the leader. He wouldn’t make any money out from the job and still had to pay wages and travel costs.

Without the diggers, the work couldn’t continue.

“Sir, I’ll contact another team of diggers,” one of the old man’s students said.

“OK,” the old man said.

It was still raining heavily outside. The sky looked gloomy. The archaeologist were resting in the shed. They suddenly heard the rain drop in the shed.

“It’s leaking in here,” an archaeologist said.

“Find the leak, I don’t want the tomb to be affected,” the old archaeologist said.

Bang! An archaeologist fell onto the ground after walking a few steps.

“Mr. He, are you alright?” The other archaeologists all went to check the person lying on the ground. His face had turned green, and he was short of breath.

“Take him to the hospital,” their leader said.

An ambulance came a moment later. Several archaeologists accompanied the person who had fallen to the hospital. Only three archaeologists were left at the tomb.

“Well, shall we all go back?’ the leader suggested.

He contacted the local government to arrange security guards for the tomb.

At night, the security guards were staying in the shed.

“Damn! Why did they ask us to guard a tomb in the middle of nowhere at night?” a guard complained.

“What can we do about it? Of course, they are gonna send new comers like us,” his colleague said.

“Do you think this place is haunted?” the guard asked.

“Don’t scare yourself,” his colleague said.

Whoo! Whoo!

“What is that sound?” the guard asked?

“It’s just the wind,” his colleague said. “I’m gonna have a cigarette.”

He took out a cigarette out of his pocket and lit it with a lighter. A gust of wind passed by, putting the cigarette out. He lit it again, but it was put out again. It happened several times.

“What is going on?” the guard asked.

The two guards’ faces changed. It was already a nasty job to guard a tomb in the hill at night.

“Hey, look, is that statue moving?” the guard asked.

“What moved?” his colleague asked. “Don’t scare me!”

They both looked toward the statue of the evil ghost. It bared its teeth in anger and had a scary look on its face. Its eyes were as big as brass bell. The statue seemed to be looking at the guards.

Whoo! A gust of wind passed. The light in the shed went out. It was completely dark.

Snap! The two guards heard a crispy sound.

“What the hell!” the guard cursed.

“Ghost?!” his colleague screamed.

The two of them ran out of the shed into the rain and went all the way down the hill in a hurry.

The shed was standing quietly on the hill. It was completely dark inside.

The guards were running as fast as they could in the rain without caring about what was beneath their feet.

“There is a village over there,” one of the guards said.

It was rainy and windy in the dark. They couldn’t see the road in front of them properly.

“No!” The two guards suddenly disappeared.

It was still raining outside.

Meanwhile, the archaeologist who had fallen was still in a hospital in the county nearby

“Doctor, how is he?” his colleagues asked.

“It’s not good,” the doctor said.

The archaeologist had passed out for no reason. He had an irregular heartbeat with potential heart failure. He also had high blood pressure.

“Does he have a history of heart disease and hypertension?” the doctor asked.

“Not that I am aware of. We all had a health examination last month. He was fine apart from a kidney stone,” one of the archaeologists said.

“This is strange. His condition indicates he has heart disease,” the doctor said. “By the way, what does he do for a living?”

“We are all archaeologists,” the colleague said.

“Archaeologists?” the doctor asked.

“Yes, we’ve been working in an ancient tomb,” the archaeologist said.

“A tomb?” the doctor asked with surprise. He subconsciously thought, Did he bump into a ghost?

“I suggest you get him admitted into the hospital,” the doctor said.

The patient’s colleagues completed relevant paperwork for him to get him admitted.

“What do you think happened to him?” a young archaeologist asked. “He was fine, talking and laughing. How come he suddenly just passed out?”

“Do you think he was attacked by a ghost?” an archaeologist wearing glasses asked.

“Stop the nonsense,” a middle-aged archaeologist said.

“This is not impossible,” the young archaeologist said. “Think about it, we’ve had so many problems since we started to dig the tomb. Two workers were injured, and someone died this afternoon. Now, Mr. He ended up in the hospital. Do you remember that Feng Shui master said the tomb had problems?”

“Don’t scare yourself,” the middle-aged archaeologist said.

“Hey, our teacher is here,” the archaeologist wearing glasses said.

“Sir, what brought you here?” the middle-aged archaeologist asked.

“How is Mr. He?” the old archaeologist asked.

“The doctor has examined him. His condition is not good,” the middle-aged archaeologist said.

The old archaeologist went to speak to the doctor in charge. After knowing the old man was a well-known professor from one of the best universities in China, the doctor answered all the questions in more detail.

“Let him stay in the hospital for one night. If he doesn’t get better, we shall transfer him into a different hospital,” the old man said after walking out of the doctor’s office.

“OK,” the middle-aged archaeologist said. “Sir, shall I drive you back?”

He drove the old man back to the hotel.

The night passed without any issues. The rain was lighter the next morning.

When the group of archaeologist went back to the hill where the tomb was, they found the two security guards had disappeared. Their vehicle was still parked on the hill.

“Where are they?” the old man asked.

At the beginning, they thought the two security guards had just wandered off and would return soon. However, the two guards were still absent after a long time. After an archaeologist found a torch in the grass, they all became worried. The old man immediately asked his team members to look for the two guards.

The archaeologists couldn’t find the two guards anywhere on the hill. They went to the village at the foot of the hill, but they still couldn’t find the two guards.

In the end, they found the two guards in a large pit near the village. The pit was filled with water since it had been raining for days. The two guards were floating in the water. There was no breath after they were dragged out of the water. Two more people died.
