Quinn glanced at the time, "gotta get this read so I can finish that damn assignment."

The Assassin's Path:TAP

Geography: The topographic features of the TAP world are an exact match of earths. Using our own planets features enabled us to save both time and money in regards to world building. The water and land masses will be familiar; however, the names of different countries, cities and continents are all unique. The borders also differ greatly from the real world. To make things fair, all continents were given Arctic, Tropical, Arid and Mountainous regions.

Gameplay: A free virtual headset is issued to all players. There is no distinction between headsets regardless of vendor, their performance rating is based strictly on the abilities of the operator. The Assassin's Path is a VRMMO. As you level up, you will group with your friends and join guilds to become stronger. You will clear dungeons and defeat Bosses to upgrade your gear and skills. The money you make in TAP will appear directly in your inventory and can be easily transferred to your bank account in real life (IRL). It won't be easy, but you can do it. Find the path.

Classes

There are six main classes. Each of these classes have at least one subclass within them. The rogue is the only main class with one subclass, and that is assassin. Within the other five classes there are many secret paths to assassin. Some of them are well known, while others have yet to be discovered. If you discover a hidden TAP, you can claim a Pioneer Bounty (PB). The PB for each subclass is 50 million credits, this comes with an in-game land grant and nobility title. Below is a comprehensive list of current class data. All base class abilities are passed down to their subclass. There are also four races that can be played, however these are mostly cosmetic in nature, Human, Elf (Dark, Wood or High), Feline and Draconic. There are a few small abilities within races, but in the interest of parity they are very minimized.

Ranger- The base abilities of this class include Natural Camouflage, Bow mastery and nature spells- such as root, snare and animal friendship (Pet Class).

Subclass Druid: TAP class in this subclass is currently unknown. Typically, druids are secondary

healers, dps and crowd control (CC).

Subclass Dryad: TAP class has been recently uncovered. The Natural born killer or NBK has all the

tools necessary to bring anyone down outdoors.

Rogue- The base abilities of this class include stealth, pickpocket and lockpick. They have enhanced abilities in the hours of darkness.

SubClass Assassin: The only class with an uncovered TAP. This is for players who don't want to spend a lot of time questing and uncovering information.

Mage-The base abilities of this class include fire damage abilities, Teleportation to any city which you have visited and spell making.

SubClass Necromancer: TAP class was one of the first uncovered. Deathskulls are extremely powerful and difficult to kill—since they are already dead the damage they take is mitigated.

SubClass Wizard: TAP class in this subclass is currently unknown. Complete with wands and lots of DPS, they alone possess the ability to fly.

Warrior-The base abilities of this class make them a natural tank, very high stamina is further aided by their ability to divide all incoming damage to themselves by half.

SubClass Barbarian: The TAP class in this subclass in currently unknown. There has been a rumors

regarding its discovery, but as of yet no one has stepped forward to claim the

pioneer bounty.

SubClass Monk: TAP class Pious has been uncovered since the first anniversary of play almost 10 years ago. The Pious are expert in hand to hand combat, they also possess minor telekinetic abilities-there is no spoon.

Cleric-The base abilities of this class include healing, buffing and resurrection. Their rez completely mitigates all death penalties except for lost equipment. This is the only exception to the pass down rule, cleric sub-classes lose the abilities to rez without penalty. Sub-classes are also limited to 6 resurrections per day.

SubClass Paladin: TAP class in this subclass is currently unknown. This class can equip a shield and can serve as a tank class. Their healing abilities can often make the difference between success and wiping.

SubClass Cultist: TAP class Shade Priest was uncovered last year. This dps/healing hybrid can claim the title of worst haircut. Shades can mesmerize up to three people/mobs at once.

Troupe Master-The base class abilities include single object and group mesmerize, debuffs and buffs.

Sub Class Bard: TAP class Rockstar is perhaps the best known and yet most difficult to become. They are experts with both instrument and vocal spells. Caution: If you are tone deaf, or otherwise

musically impaired don't even think about this class.

Sub Class Dancer: TAP class in this subclass is currently unknown. This subclass takes CC to the limit. They possess several abilities to lose aggro including the coveted "walk among your enemies" ability.

The Hit List (HL): Once you uncover The Assassin's Path you will be issued a hit list. What you choose to do with it is completely up to you. You can ignore it and continue playing as normal, or you can embark on TAP. Your first HL will include a list of 100 TAP assassins and their basic in-game dossiers. You will have to do quite a bit of research to get your first kill. To advance to the next step you must assassinate 10 people from the list. As long as you have the list on your person and are within one mile of them when they die, you will receive credit. Yes, you can share kills or ride someone else's coattails if you discover their target. There are one hundred steps in all. No one has progressed past the 25th step.

"Let's see, I have a 10 day trial account from school for this block of VR studies, user name is :Sinful, password is :Jinn"

"Easy enough... Log-On TAP." Quinn figured, why wait?

"TAP interface located, do you wish to proceed?"

"Yes, thank you," Quinn squeezed the arms of his recliner as a bright light flashed in front of his eyes."

"Welcome to the character creation interface."

Quinn felt his reality completely fade away, the soft leather of his recliner under his hands replaced with an empty white room.

"Legacy Account detected Ella Riley"

"Mom? What's mom's name doing here?" Quinn's throat tightened up and his heart began racing.

His mother was one of the few things he didn't openly discus with anyone. "Was TAP the game she use to play?"

Moments later a transparent mannequin flickered in the middle of the room. "Please choose your race. Race in TAP is mostly cosmetic although there are some minor advantages to each race. The choices are Human, Draconian--."

"Human." Quinn interrupted the voice, "Is this Ella Riley's account?

The mannequin morphed into the general shape of a human.

"Please wait while the appearance generator comes online."

"No need. Use my own appearance for all characteristics, including gender and voice." 'I'll have to go inside to get some answers.'

"Default settings are acknowledged, character generation complete. Please choose a name."

"Q is fine, no last name." Q was the nickname his grandma use to call him before she passed away, leaving him as a ward of the state. It was as good as any.

"Welcome to TAP Q. Do you wish to declare a base class now? This option doesn't become mandatory until level 10."

"No, that won't be necessary. First I'll get a feel for things."

"All settings are finalized. May you find your path Q."

A young man materialized in a stone archway just south of the market place. He wore faded jeans and a v necked white t-shirt. A blue backpack was strapped to his back. He was tall with an athletic build. His black hair was shaved close on the sides and back, the top would have hung down to his shoulders but was tied up.

"This is definitely not the free trial account, I didn't enter the user name or password." Q noticed that the Mail icon was blinking so he activated it.

TAP MAIL

Subject: Legacy Account Sender:TAP Admin Attachment:Legacy Pack

Q stared hard at the heads up display (hud), for a moment. 'So... this was the game..'

Q,

This account has been tagged as a legacy account. Your benefactor, Ella Riley, has set up certain advantages for you. Legacy account holders are able to pass down one inventory item, up to 5 million credits and a legacy item. What ever your benefactor has chosen to grant you will you be deposited into your inventory. There is no monthly premium for Legacy Accounts.

TAP admin.

System Message: Do you wish to accept the Legacy Pack?

"Yes."

System Message: 5 million credits has been deposited into your account.

System Message: A Legacy Item has been deposited into your account.

System Message:An unidentified Key has been added to your key ring.

'5 million credits? Mom... If you had that kind of money, why were we living in that crappy apartment?'

"Open Inventory," an opaque view of his inventory appeared in his hud, 5 million credits and the default 1000 credits was shown in the currency account. The inventory also contained a worn leather shirt, a Legacy item and worn leather pants.

"Yeah.. leather in this heat? No thanks." He looked at the 5 million credits again, "holy shit!"

He stared at Legacy item for a few moments, it resembled an old tarnished coin. The key was an old skeleton key with I0IMI engraved on it. "I'll take a closer look at after I do the starter quests."

After looking around a few moments he noticed an NPC that had a bright exclamation mark over his head. "He must be the beginning quest giver."

Walking over he took a moment to examine his surroundings a bit more. "I only need to do the first three parts of the starter quests, according to my assignment."

"I thought it would be really crowded, but there is no one here." He shrugged to himself, the details of this place was rather nice. There was a slight breeze that carried the scent of something a bit rancid, perhaps a stable?

As he approached the NPC the man looked at him and spoke. "Greetings Q. I am Bezri, could you perhaps do a few small jobs for me?"

Quinn stared at the man. Okay, that's really impressive. He is even sweating a bit. Apparently every NPC in TAP has it's own dedicated AI. They are capable of making friends and enemies of both players and other NPC's alike.

"Hi Bezri, yes I will take on a few jobs for you. Could I perhaps get them all at once so I can save a bit of time in between jobs?" He added a small bow, no harm in being polite since he made his own request.

"Well.. that is not how -- Okay fine that will acceptable," he interrupted himself as if changing his mind in mid-sentence.

A quest log appeared in Quinn's hud, with three quests written in it. After punching the accept option on all three quests, the log disappeared. "Thank you for your help Bezri, I will be back soon."
