Chapter 2: Do Japanese People Appear Younger In The Eyes of Otherworlders?

For ten years, I worked hard doing all the cleaning, laundry, and cooking for my husband. However, my husband laughed at me. He said those weren’t real jobs, and that all I merely did was to have fun at home. If I earned money and became independent by taking a job like that, my husband would probably ridicule me more.

He’d say things like, 「So in the end, that’s all you know how to do!」

「I want to do something different! I don’t want to give up without even trying. I-if it’s really impossible for me, then…」

I was upset.
I worked really hard doing the cleaning, laundry, and cooking. So hard, I’m sure I wouldn’t even lose to any other professional housewives. Household chores are proper work too.
However, my husband would probably say something like, 「Unlike you, who can only do the chores, she’s capable of both working and taking care of the household.」

「Hmm, there are plenty of other folks out there that really want to become adventurers… what should we do with you?」

Huh? Adventurer?

「Guess it can’t be helped. I’ll introduce you to a job even a five year old child can do. Work hard and raise your level. Once your level goes up, I can introduce you to other jobs.」

Was he introducing me to something?

「T-thank you very much!」
「Alright, follow me. I was just about to head to the potion field myself. I’ll bring you along.」

Potion field?
So, a field job? Hm, that felt like something I could do if I worked hard enough. I could handle earthworms and stink bugs. However if a snake appeared , I probably would get so scared I wouldn’t even be able to get up.

The man jumped over the counter with ease, despite it reaching up to his lower back.
I took a proper look at him and realized he wore some incredible-looking clothing.
He was clad in brown from head to toe. He had a chest protector made of leather, and a belt with a sword hung off his back.
Was he cosplaying to make the place look more game-like? Hello Work employees sure have it rough nowadays.

「Ahh, Rofas-san! Please don’t go and introduce jobs on your own accord!」
「There’s no problem though, right? I’ll take responsibility if anything happens.」

So his name was Rofas-san.

「Geez. I know you’re an S-Rank adventurer, but you keep doing things as you please! You even looked at Yuuri-san’s personal information! I won’t help you if the guild master scolds you later! 」

The lady at the counter exclaimed in anger, then threw a bronze card at Rofas-san.
Rofas-san caught the card with ease, then pulled out the string that tightened his shirt collar.
He strung the card through the string, then stood right in front of me.

「Here, now you’re an adventurer too, young lady. Don’t lose this.」

Rofas-san said and grinned. He put the stringed card around my neck.
His big hands grazed a bit of my hair.
Ah.
My heart skipped a beat.
I was a married woman, but my heart raced even though it was just a man putting a necklace – not quite, but still – around my neck. Something might be wrong with me.
Fu, fufu.

「Hey, this isn’t a situation where you should laugh. Tuck it into your shirt before you lose it!」

He pinched the corner of the card and pulled open the collar of my cutsew shirt.

「Kya! W-w-what are you doing!!」

He was almost two heads taller than me. If he pulled open my collar, he could see what was inside, right? S-sexual harrassment!!

「Oh, my bad, I mean, sorry. Um, well…」

I grabbed my shirt collar, and glared at him with a red face. I saw that Rofas-san’s face was even redder than mine.
Hm? That didn’t feel like the reaction of someone who just committed an act of sexual harassment.

「Rofas-san, please don’t treat Yuuri-san the same way as the children who work at the potion field. I’m sorry, Yuuri-san. This guy’s helpful and all, but he likes getting into everyone’s business. He’s like a fly in the ointment…」

The same as the children?
Now wait just a second.
I was already in my thirties. That reminded me, he kept calling me a “young lady”…
Huh? Did he actually think I was young enough to be called “young lady”? No matter how you looked at it, there was no way…
