"Roar!" The giant black Demonic roared at Shu Yidan, but it didn't bring forth a ball of fire as usual. Tt was only a prologue for an melee attack - the giant hands transformed into claws to strike down Shu Yidan.

Like a beast, it was fully aware of its own innate capabilities. It had an alien constitution capable of myriad transformations and used them fully in battle.

Facing that attack, Shu Yidan only pointed his finger. The gloved finger flashed in a violet light, a concentrated force scattering the might of the attack.

"Guh!" The beast roared in pain as the attacking claw shattered - this was the force of a single finger.

Another claw grew in a blink – this was the power of endless magical energy.

"Azurewind's Finger… This attack using Azurewind's Gloves is a somewhat decent." Praising the gloves he was utilizing, Shu Yidan used footwork to avoid the claws of the big beast.

Logically, Shu Yidan's pathetically weak Peak Houtian level True Qi should have been slapped down in an instant. But he wasn't using it in the first place.

No, he was transforming the mighty energy of his Golden Core into True Qi. The Golden Core was an agglomeration of myriad types of energy, and the Golden Core could naturally transform into myriad types of energy – and True Qi was a part of it!

The pure energy of a Golden Core was a natural restraint for the chaotic energy of the Demonic Ghost – and the ghost was using it for was physical attacks, like a mere beast!

Even worse than that, the Demonic Ghost was composed of Divine Transformation level energy, yet was incapable of utilizing the Divine Transformation energy to attack - it didn't possess the clarity of spirit required to control the energy!

Facing the chaotically thrown Nascent Soul attacks, Shu Yidan could easily slap the ghost around like a boss!

A rain of violet finger strikes struck the Demonic Ghost's giant frame. A disadvantage of a giant form was that attacks were easy to predict – naturally Shu Yidan used deft footwork to avoid the powerful blows of the beast.

The wine-red colored gloves seemed bloody, bound around his fist as they were. Shu Yidan couldn't help but think that the Sect Master's gifts weren't bad.

Shu Yidan had gained the gift of a spatial ring from the Sect Master after their spar – while it had good stuff like some pills and materials, the most important thing within were three.

Azurewind's Blade, a 4th Rank Magical Artifact – a good violet blade to replace Shu Yidan's shattered one.

Azurewind's Gloves, the set he was currently using to fight. They were martial artist gloves that the Ancestor used in his times as a martial artist. It was more or less a sentimental artifact, though it was outfitted with enough spells that its durability couldn't be questioned.

Azurewind's Eye, a divine sense inheritance containing Azurewind's legacy. Shu Yidan had accepted it in his past life, so he was planning on keeping it in reserve – perhaps a good blade talent would surface in the Sect?

Shu Yidan raised his fist for a palm strike – Eight Trigrams Divine Fist!

The giant ghost attacked with a fist that could cleave mountains. The Eight Trigrams Divine Fist struck with a blow that matched that might!

Boom! The entire arm of the beast was torn apart!

Shu Yidan smiled wryly as it regenerated – but the magical energy from the beast seemed to be weakening. The endless magical energy lessened as some of the souls forming the Demonic Ghost were freed.

Under the Demonic Ghost was a circle formed of countless talismans. This depicted the Wheel of Samsara – the Buddhist understanding of the cycle of reincarnation.

As long as Shu Yidan beat up the ghost for a while, the souls forming it would naturally be bound to this Wheel of Samsara – and then it would begin cycling, sending off these misfortunate spirits to a new life.

Shu Yidan didn't know much about Buddhism – rather he had taken care not to learn much about Buddhism. He was cultivating the Asura Path technique, too much information might cripple his prospects of enlightenment!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Shu Yidan and the Demonic Ghost exchanged a flurry of fist techniques. Azurewind's Finger Techniques, Eight Trigram Divine Fist, Shangyue's Imperial Heart Spear Form… all the tricks he knew were used to the fullest.

Attacking and defending, evading blows and setting up attacks… Shu Yidan faced the Demonic Ghost in battle. With every exchange of blows, Shu Yidan lost energy, but using the power of the leylines and careful control of his reserves, Shu Yidan continued battling with his fullest.

Buddha's Heart Palm!

A giant five-fingered palm struck the Demonic Ghost, yet it was casually ignored by the beast.

Forgetting Heavens Dream Knife!

Using his palm as a knife, a chop cleaved at the head of the beast, yet the amorphous form of the beast regenerated in a wink.

White Lotus Lifeless Finger!

A jadelike glow emanating from his finger stuck the forehead of the beast, blowing a hole through it. However, it regenerated with a blink.

Shu Yidan had spent a few hours battling the beast – it would be dawn in about an hour. At that time, the Demonic Ghost would flee away – and Shu Yidan couldn't allow that to happen.

About a thousand or so souls were rescued by the Wheel of Samsara array, but what about the remnants? As long as this Demonic Ghost survived, the scourge would remain and misery would prevail!

Shu Yidan couldn't help but think about how totems would be convenient – they multiplied the power of his talismans and arrays. If he had spent a few hours refining them…

No, why would he spend a few hours refining them over spending a few hours with Shangyue? Totems could be done anytime, so doing Shangyue was more important!

Thinking this, Shu Yidan casually struck out with a chain of blows. He had figured out how to use martial arts in unison to maximize his attack force, but that didn't do much.

Early on, his every strike could liberate a spirit from the Demonic Ghost, but now ten were needed. After some time, even hundred strikes wouldn't be able to shake out a soul!

Buddhism, Exorcism or White Lotus… None of the techniques were especially useful. That was mostly because he didn't have faith. The Eight Trigram Divine Palm was the strongest of his attacks, mostly due to his predecessor's foundation and his understanding of the Eight Trigrams overlaying together.

He had tried singing scriptures while fighting, but they were entirely worthless as well…

Lack of faith. It made things hard.

Sighing, Shu Yidan was prepared to spend the remaining time going all out the liberate all the spirits that he could. Next day, he would come again and hunt this Demonic Ghost down with preparations.

The spirits that couldn't be saved. The innocent that died without cause. The humans who couldn't reach salvation.

Since life was impossible, he might as well sing a requiem.

Speaking of requiems, while there were many he knew, there was only one that touched his heart.

In the Immortal World, the Golden Butterfly Lady's sorrow on knowing that her descendant legacy, the Spirit Butterfly Sect was entirely exterminated.

"…Through a field of ten thousand flowers, a leaf would not touch body…"
