Right after Jonathan declared his intention, a hush came over the room, which was interrupted by the sound of the door opening.
First to enter was the CEO, who looked unflustered.
He also had a smile on his face, and as he sat in his chair without any explanation, his eyes glazed over as if he was recalling something fond.
He was the CEO, after all, so he didn't need to give any explanations for being late.
A few moments after that, the newest Director, and the woman who had just been referred to by Jonathan, stumbled inside and gave a small smile to the room, who were all watching, before finding a seat.
There was a small blush on her face, but it soon disappeared and was replaced by one of calmness.
The CEO spoke up, making the others turn toward him, again.
"What did we miss?", he asked idly, which made Jonathan stand up again.
"Sir, me, and a few others have decided that the best way to encourage a new Director is to give her a chance to prove herself. As such, we propose giving her the role of one of the Chief Directors responsible for the operation in Argentina. Our full support is with her, and we will be helping her along every step of the way. However, it will be up to her. Her successes will be her achievements, alone, and we will also be able to judge, accurately, just how capable she is. I hope this motion is passed by the CEO, as I do have the right of proposing a new member for a post when I step down."
Before, the others started to think that it might be some sort of joke.
Yet, as they saw him repeat the same thing again, they started to whisper among themselves, while some even gasped in disbelief.
Indeed, this was the job assigned to Jonathan, as he had experience handling such matters.
They all knew how much he abhorred her, and wanted her out of here.
Yet, he was now giving her a chance like this?
Any of the other directors would kill for such an opportunity.
Yet, as they thought about it, the reasoning became clear, as it wasn't a very complex plan.
Her successes would be her achievements. But what if she failed?
She would definitely be ousted from the Board.
And what were the chances of a new Director with no experience handling such an intensive task?
Nil.
As everyone started to understand this masterstroke by Jonathan, they couldn't help but admire his courage in doing everything necessary to get what he wanted.
The brilliance of this was that unless the one hearing it doubted the capabilities of the person in question, too, it really would seem like something Jonathan was doing out of the kindness of his heart.
The CEO might be confident of the skills of his girlfriend, but they also knew that he would be smart enough to recognize the risk, too.
So, it remained to be seen what his decision would be.
Right now, he was looking at Jonathan with one eyebrow raised, as if he couldn't believe what he had just said.
And, of course, this was making Liz feel the urge to laugh, as she knew that it was all acting.

After a few moments, Will finally said, "Are you sure? I appreciate this kind of unprecedented support, but.."
"I'm sure, sir."
Interrupted in this way, the CEO frowned, before saying, "Very well. But the decision will be left to Elizabeth, herself. If she wishes to, she can opt out."
This was Liz's queue.
The others all thought that this was her chance to save her position.
Yet, as they saw her stand up with determination and speak, they sighed and marveled at her stupidity.
"I'll do it. Thank you, Mr. Jonathan. I definitely won't let you down. And the other members of the Board. I look forward to showing you what I'm capable of."
'Woman, you're only capable of being lured into traps.'
Such was the thought in many of the minds of those in the room, as they looked forward to seeing her fail and be humiliated, while also feeling telling themselves that they shouldn't mess with Jonathan, who had thought up this perfect plan.
Meanwhile, as Liz saw everyone gloating, and the cruel smile that came on Jonathan's face, she couldn't help but smile too.
In a pack of lions, the best thing to do to rise was to disrupt the natural order.
That…was exactly what she had set out to do, and as she sat down, she said to herself, "Time for the show to begin."

At the same moment, Luke was surveying a plot in the midst of New York, whose price, which was in the millions, had just made his head spin in circles.
Yet, Karen, who was in front of him, smiled sweetly and said, "Don't be shocked. Now's the time to exploit all the fame. This will be where the next 'Luke's Diner' will be, and believe me, it will take the whole city, and then the whole country, by storm. All you have to do is keep a close eye on the existing ones, and keep training chefs until you're happy with them. You might have to do without me for a while, though."
As Luke heard this, he asked, "Hmm? You're going somewhere?"
He had to say that he had gotten quite used to Keren, and hearing this out of the blue made him slightly unhappy.
In fact, this feeling of unhappiness was surprising, too, but before he could think on it, Keren gave him the answer.
"Yes, to Argentina. Your best friend is going up against a bunch of old rats whom I hate. It's going to be so much fun! I don't need to help her, but I'll be there if she needs me. And I so want to be there when it all goes down. Oh, what a show it's going to be!"
