Beyond all the necessities, there were square wooden cabinet beside TV, on which were numerous models of villas, tall buildings, and large mansions. They looked like they were made by someone and crafted by hand. Was this his hobby?

Shen Mo took a set of them to have a closer look. Those little wood pieces were carefully polished, showing that the maker was careful and meticulous on details. She looked up to find that in a far corner there was a wooden bar expensively stocked with many colorful juice, wines, and drinks. She thought it was only for temporary usage.

Was he going to leave in a short time? She couldn’t move away from this idea of sudden visit. But renting an apartment meant they could move out at any time. Even so, she felt a little sad not knowing the reason.

“Hey, what are you thinking? The soup is ready.” When she came out of her own mediation on these thoughts, Su Ye was bringing a bowl of soup from the kitchen.

“You are so quick?”

“Have a try! I made a special flavor for you.”

Shen Mo took the bowl from him and used the small spoon to try it. “Really good! What ingredients did you put in?”

Su Ye raised his eyebrow with pride, satisfied by Shen Mo’s expression. “I won’t tell you.” Then he went back to the kitchen to bring back another bigger bowl, which held something else.

“You cooked Tang Yuan for me?”

“I guess you didn’t have much food at the party, so you’d better eat something after having the soup, so you can have a good sleep.”

Shen Mo took the bowl quietly. Though she was so passive, she felt a little delight. She had liked Tang Yuan since her childhood, especially when she and her younger sister were both young. Back then, the whole family sat beside the TV during the Spring Festival, laughing and playing together. . . But now. . .

She shook her head, trying to forget those happy scenes that were inappropriate for this time. She tried to give him a smile. “Do you treat everyone so kindly?”

Su ye was surprised by this question and his spoon almost slipped back into the Tang Yuan soup. He emotionally recovered and gave her a steady answer. “I only treat pretty girls this way.”

“All the pretty girls?”

“No . . . only a few of them.”

“So I am included?”

“Lady, I strongly suggest you get a job as a reporter, your questioning is so sharp.”

Shen Mo laughed with real happiness. All these years she had been carrying a heavy burden, so all her smiles were hypocritical. But at this moment, she felt so relaxed that the smile was straight from the heart.

“Thank you!” she said after a while.

He didn’t understand and looked up as he asked, “For what?”

“I haven’t eaten such tasty Tang Yuan in a long time.”

“Really? So I should also thank you.”

“For what?”

“For allowing me to appreciate such a beautiful scene as a pretty girl eating Tang Yuan. Even more, if you were in an evening dress, the picture would be cuter.”

She twitched her lips. “So you are saying I am not cute enough.”

Su Ye shrugged. “I didn’t think you had such a sharp tongue.”

Do I? Shen Mo couldn’t understand this comment about her. When she asked Chen Xiaoya later if she really had a sharp tongue, her answer was negative. At the time, she heavily pushed her forehead, and said, “I have been waiting for the day when you became a sharp tongue, thus I have no need to worry about you any more. Would you speed up?”

But why did Su Ye say she had a sharp tongue? This was the first time. Later on, however, when they played together, he would rebuke her as a sharp tongue many times. She gave herself a reasonable explanation that only with Su Ye did she dare to show her real personality.

Shen Mo acknowledged that since that night, she had an interest in Su Ye. So the next day, when she woke up, she subconsciously listened to the opposite apartment.

She didn’t know if it was because the sound insulation of this building was bad or the sounds in Su Ye’s apartment were too loud, but she really heard some quarreling when she intently listened.

After her morning cleansing routine and her hair up in a ponytail, Shen Mo went out to check about the sounds. She found a boy of about five or six years old poke his head out from Su Ye’s apartment. But before she could open her mouth, the boy soundly shut the door.

The noise of the boy closing the door shocked her, but also made her more interested. Who was the boy? When she was trying to push the doorbell, the boy opened the door again and praised her, saying, “Sister, you are so beautiful!”

“Xiao Da, who are you talking to? Come and eat the cake,” Su Ye called from inside before Shen Mo got a chance to answer him.

“Brother, come take a look! The sister is so beautiful!” the boy continued to yell.

“Call me uncle, like I have told you many times.” Su Ye went out to find Shen Mo, with a shining smile passing through his eyes. “And this one you should call aunt, instead of sister.”

“No . . . no . . . brother, and sister. You are so beautiful! When you get older, we can call you uncle and aunt.” Another little girl also came to join them.

Seeing Shen Mo was still confused, Su Ye held Xiao Da in his arm and used another hand to pull the little girl. “Haven’t you eaten breakfast? Come in and have some cake.”

Shen Mo looked down at her sleep dress with its funny cartoon image print. She smiled with shyness. But she still entered Su Ye’s house. She didn’t guess Su Ye already saw her awkwardness, and commented, “You look so cute in this kind of sleeping dress. You should always have them.”

Before Shen Mo had time to chew on this remark, she was encircled by a bunch of kids.

“Wow . . . what a pretty sister!”

“Is this sister your girlfriend, brother?”

All the kids surrounding her confused Shen Mo. She asked Su Ye, “Who are they?”

Su Ye explained to her as he was cutting the cake. “They are from the orphanage. Today is a weekend, so I asked the president’s permission to take them to my apartment as little guests.”

Shen Mo gave them a joyful look and took a little girl into her embrace, and rubbed her lovely face twice. “You all are so cute!”

When the kids found she was kind, they became more excited. “Sister, why are you so pretty?” Xiao Da asked.

“What a hard question. . . Xiao Da, tell me first, why are you so pretty?” Shen Mo took them to the table, and passed them the pieces of cake cut by Su Ye. Soon they were acquainted. She had had a poor childhood, and it seemed somehow that they shared similar experiences. So she felt an intimate connection when she heard they were orphans.

She put the napkins on their legs, and used the towels to wipe the cake crumbs on their lips and faces. Meanwhile, she answered their babyish questions.

Su Ye was staring at her, taking in each of her movements with his eyes, and his gaze was deep and vast.
