The car window was open. An Ying’s voice sounded cold to the bone.

Huang He let out a bitter chuckle. “Brother Ying? So you’re asking me to die?”

“Aren’t you willing to give up your life for Brother Ying?”

“I’m scared of death.”

“So you’re unwilling?”

“I don’t want to die.”

“I see!” An Ying was smiling, his wrinkles showed deeply at the eyes. He slowly raised his hand, the dark muzzle of the gun was now pointing directly at Huang He’s head. “What about now? Are you willing to give up your life for Brother Ying, huh?”

Huang He’s eyebrows turned downwards at the corners and he decided to not say anything.

With a gun to his head, he knew that anything he said would be pointless.

So he kept quiet.

“Brother Ying!”

It was the driver who broke the silence.

“We’re reaching Hongshan Bridge very soon.” The driver sounded nervous. “I think the cops might have set up a roadblock ahead…”

“What’s there to worry about?” An Ying sneered sarcastically. “We have Detective Huang with us!”

An Ying instructed the driver, “Stop the car by the road now.”

The driver and the other henchman alighted the car.

Huang He sat unmoving inside the car, with An Ying pointing a gun at his head.

It was quiet all around.

It was so quiet that they could make out some of the faint sounds of the planes that flew past from a faraway location…

At this moment, a sedan car was driving in their direction with very bright headlights. The lights brushed past Huang He’s face for an instant.

An Ying’s underling who had been driving the car, dashed to the middle of the road and waved his hands frantically at the sedan car.

“Stop, please stop! Hey!”

That sedan car decelerated but it didn’t stop.

The time was so late already and most of the people on the road during this hour were usually those who were rushing home for Lunar New Year. Why would anyone recklessly stop their car just because someone was waving at them to stop?

“D*mmit!” The underling cursed and beckoned to the other underling.

The two of them then held hands and stood in the middle of the road.

“Our car broke down! Comrade, please help us! We want to rush home for Lunar New Year, please help us!”

These two fellows sure could act. In addition, they were driving a branded car as well.

That sedan car gradually stopped before them.

“Comrade…” The driver underling walked over and before the other party could talk, he directly grabbed the collar of the man inside the car.

“You bleeping get out of the car now!”

“Hey, what are you doing? What do you want…”

“Can’t you bleeping tell? We’re robbers!”

“Ah…”

“D*mn you!”

There was a scream and they could hear the sounds of the two beating up the owner of the sedan car.

Huang He was emotionless as ever as he listened to all these noises.

In no time, one of the underlings came to report. “Brother Ying, we’ve secured the car!”

That unlucky fellow was rushing home for Lunar New Year. As he encountered a bunch of ferocious ‘robbers’, there was no way he could win against them.

“Mm.” An Ying was satisfied by their performance. He suddenly turned to Tian Danyue.

“Why are you still in a daze? Hurry and tie him up.”

Tian Danyue was startled. “Brother Ying?”

An Ying peered at her from the corner of his eyes and a mocking smile appeared on his face. “Why? You can’t bear to?”

Tian Danyue’s face went pale and bit her lower lip. “… I’m not.”

There were actually some ropes in the car. Tian Danyue took it out and tied Huang He to his seat. Her actions were hesitant at the beginning, but grew quicker as she progressed. She seemed to have experienced a painful process.

An Ying was still holding the gun and did not move.

Huang He sat quietly and had been keeping quiet like a mute.

“Pal, it’s tough on you.” An Ying’s laughter could send a chill up one’s spine. “If you managed to escape unscathed in this ordeal, you’ll follow me in future. I’ll definitely let you eat meat and drink wine with me.”

Hmph! Huang He continued to keep his mouth shut.

An Ying raised his eyebrows when he saw Huang He being tied up like a dumpling. He also checked and pulled the rope before nodding his head, seemingly satisfied.

“I shall leave the following to you, Danyue…” An Ying showed a meaningful smile at Tian Danyue. “I believe that you can complete this task well!”

“I will! Brother Ying, you must not forget… what you promised me.” Tian Danyue got out of the car after she finished saying her words. She had gone out so she could take the driver’s seat.

Brother Ying also got out of the car and waved. “Don’t worry!”

Tian Danyue didn’t say anything more but rolled up the car window.

Only the two of them were inside the car now.

Tian Danyue sounded a little hoarse. “I’ll keep you company. You need not be afraid!”

Huang He understood that An Ying wanted to change to another car and escape. By letting Tian Danyue drive the branded car which was targeted by the police, their plan was to draw the attention of the police so as to provide a cover for An Ying to escape successfully.

He showed a smile. “Why?”

Tian Danyue’s eyes were distracted and confused. She quickly ran her fingers through her hair and tried to start the car. She even felt that her feet and legs seemed to have gone soft.

“I’m left with no choice. I’m sorry, Huang He. I’m really at my wit’s end.”

Huang He tried to move his body carefully. He suddenly thought of something and pressed his lips together. “Because of Miaomiao?”

Tian Danyue’s hands that were holding the steering wheel tightened. Maybe her palms were clammy as she rubbed her hands and touched her face. Throughout, she didn’t look at Huang He at all.

“Yes, I have no choice. Miaomiao… is my everything. I originally sent her away but they managed to find her… Huang He, I’m sorry. I’ll repay you whatever I’ve owed in my next life!”

Next life?

Huang He took a glance at the people outside and raised an eyebrow. “You told An Ying that I’m the one who betrayed them? That day when I met Fang Yuanyuan, you’re the one who told him that right?”

Tian Danyue paused for a moment. “I didn’t tell him that you’re the mole. In fact, I didn’t know if you were an undercover or not…”

“I really am! I’m an undercover cop.” Huang He suddenly laughed.

To be able to say this out actually felt good.

“An Ying’s suspicions never went away although I cut off my little finger,” Huang He continued, “he deliberately arranged a batch of fake goods to test me so as to provide a cover for his real goods to be delivered to the Capital. But I managed to see through his ruse… I beat him at his own game and coordinated with Bai Muchuan. Ah Fei got caught, his plans fell through and he decided to trust me. Whatever happened in Jin City was arranged by me and Bai Muchuan. I’m the one to blame for why An Ying ended up like this…”

Tian Danyue’s expression changed to shock.

“Why did you tell me all of these?”

Huang He narrowed his eyes when he saw that her fingers were trembling. “You once said that once you set foot on this path, it’s a path of no-return. Originally, I prepared a path for you to start anew — and your daughter could be saved. And you, if you provide assistance to the police to solve the case, you would have a chance to turn over a new leaf… A pity though, you still chose to walk the wrong path.”

Tian Danyue’s back felt stiff.

Suddenly, she leaned her head on the steering wheel and cried bitterly.

Knock! Knock!

Knock! Knock!

Someone knocked on the window.

It was one of An Ying’s henchman.

He had obviously run out of patience.

“Sister Danyue, Brother Ying said that you only have one chance…”

One chance.

One chance.

“Danyue, I only need to make a phone call and Miaomiao would be gone from this world. I pity that she had to endure all the sufferings and humiliations of so many men… Danyue, can you really bear to let her suffer a fate like this?”

An Ying’s warning rang through her ear as she recalled. Tian Danyue gritted her teeth and she seemed to have made up her mind.

“Huang He, I’m sorry!”

She did not hesitate any longer and started the car. She stepped on the accelerator and the car sped towards Hongshan Bridge.
