01. What I Missed

The great country Slenvale¹.

In that country, I received a life as the daughter of the highest noble, the duke.

Since I was born, i don’t remember having any inconveniences.

Getting an appropriate education, refined my culture, I have been constantly trying to not bring any shame to my family name.

Perhaps because of that, I should have been a person who can generally meet my parents’ expectations.

As my father had hoped, He secured the position of the fianceé of the next king, The Crown Prince.

But at that moment.

His Highness Crown Prince paid a courtesy visit to our house, then my sister told me that she had fallen in love with His Highness at first sight.

Saying you have fallen in love.

Saying so you want to be his wife.

To be honest, I thought it was stupid.

Because, is there even “like” and “dislike” in a nobility marriage?

Certainly, the Prince is well-behaved and have a good looks. You can say, He is a man where you can’t find any defect in him.

However, I did not aim for a fiancee because I liked him, the other side also chose me with that account.

Does that mean, you want to redo it because of personal circumstances like falling in love at first sight?

Unlike me, my jealous sister who was spoiled by our parents, said that without any embarrassment.

And then, at first our parents told my sister to calm down and stop her selfishness, while she slept with her lovesickness, they softened their attitude.

They(MC’s parents) asked His Highness themself to change his fiancee, since, both of us were their daughter so whichever became the Prince’s wife is all the same.

Is there even such a stupid story?

If your sister is a fool, your parents are a big fools.

But what struck me the most was the fact that a duke’s daughter was the same no matter who became the fiancee.

If the change of fiancee is accepted, they must’ve thought they’re giving my father, the duke a favor.

Soon after, a letter from the prince acknowledging the change was received.

My sister is on cloud nine², but I felt like I was thrust into the bottom of hell.

Dance, study, manners, and embroidery didn’t help anything to keep my position.

Eventually, after the change of fiancee was announced, I will be the hate in the social world as a pitiful girl whose glory is turned since her fiancee has been cuckolded by her younger sister.

Aaah, why did this happen?

Do I have no natural virtue?

Am I just unlucky?

Just because of that, why must I be given such shame?

That is why I, decided to be a candidate for the dragon bride.

A dragon bride is, someone who throw her body to the active volcano where the dragon sleeps once every 10 years, simply saying, it’s a human sacrifice.

As for the human sacrifice, the higher the status the better, every time, it was a son or a daughter of a baron who were chosen instead of the commoner.

The house that gave the human sacrifice, in exchange of losing one daughter, they receive a permanent honor and a bereaved pension from the country.

From the perspective of the house of a duke’s asset, such money is nothing but the money we make, and it was foolish that I thought that my house would be honored and my parents would be pleased if I become dragon brides.

No matter how, I really want to prove myself more useful than my sister.

I notice it when I stand in a hot, hot magma crater.

My life, which I thought was comfortable, lacked only one important thing.

That is love from my parents.

I have always wanted it, and I’ve made constant efforts for it.

TL Note:

スレンヴェール (Su-Re-N-Ve/Be-Ru) The actual sentences is “She was so happy that she fly”, but I changed it to avoid awkwardness.. XD
