"Parker, who was that man?"

"I don't know, sir," replied Parker, the driver.

"Find out."

"Yes, sir."

After Frank left, the cafe soon resumed its usual tranquility. At least, that was the case on the customer's side. In the kitchen, Bernie was busy preparing soups, sandwiches, and cakes, while Jade was running about taking orders and handing them over to Bernie. It was the end of work rush.

'Ah, I really need more staff, but we can't afford it…' Jade lamented the lack of funds. 'You'd think, with all these rushes, we'd have a higher income…'

Jade let out a sigh at the thought.

'The issue is that the lulls in between rushes are too long and too quiet. So, we're only really earning in the morning, at lunch, and after work; the hours in between are wasted.

'We can't shut the cafe during those hours… Well, we could, but it would be pointless. It's only Bernie and me who are in most of the time, and we'd have to turn away some of our regulars.

'Well, that's an issue for the future. For now, I need to focus on finding a replacement for Harry.'

Ting ding!

"Welcome, please wait a moment, and I'll be with you promptly."

After quickly greeting the latest customers to enter, Jade rush out coffees to a couple of old businessmen before hurrying to the counter to take the orders. During that brief period, a queue had begun to form, and the waiting customers were looking less that satisfied, not happy about waiting more than a few minutes—a trait shared by many in this day and age.

"I apologize for the wait. We're currently understaffed, but we are recruiting, so this won't happen again."

As disgruntled as the customers were, with a prompt apology and the assurance that the cafe was working to correct the issue, the customers could not complain.

'Honesty is the best policy.' That was a saying that Jade lived by, and she completely believed it. 'As long as you're earnest and forthcoming, people will understand. That is, as long as they can see you're trying and don't make such mistakes too often.'

After taking the orders and sending them to their seats, Jade dashed back into the kitchen. As only a few of the orders contained food, all of which were prepared and simply needed to be dished up, Jade had Bernie help with making some of the coffees, leaving the simple orders to him and dealing with the more complex ones herself.

'Phew, what time is it? 6PM? The customers should start dwindling now. I might have chance to sit down then…'

"Excuse me, Jade." At that moment, one of the older businessmen called over to Jade. The man looked to be in his fifties and was wearing a sharp, fashionable suit. Worrying that the sudden shout might be a complaint, Jade looked around but smiled when she saw who it was.

'Ah, it's Silver Fox.'

The man was a regular, and Silver Fox was just a nickname she had given the man in her head, on account of his good looks.
