I Left Him, He Followed Silently

I look at the years of our death, it was a year apart. I died when I was thirty five years old and the King was fourty. The 'Prince' would be eleven when he had to take over the throne.

"Poor child," it must have been hard for him.

I try to remember how I died and trace back my memories to when I was alive but the last thing I could remember is my twenty-ninth birthday as that day, the 'Prince' gave me flowers for the first time. He was five years of age at that time.

Few years ago...

"Queen Mother, I have a present for you," the young Prince said with sweats dripping from his forehead. His hands on his back.

"What is it, my Prince?"

He held out the flowers he hid on his back and gave it to me. "Thank you for being born and thank you for giving birth to me, Mother," he said with a bright smile.

"Where did you learn such sweet words?" I asked, touched by his innocent attitude. "And where did you get this beautiful flowers?"

"From the flower field," he said. "Ah, please don't tell His Majesty," he put his palms together and pleaded charmingly.

"Tell me what?" The King asked, he was standing behind the Prince. The Prince startled and jumped to hide behind me.

I smile at the memory. It feels so vivid as if it happened just yesterday.

But that is the farthest I could remember. I couldn't recall the next birthdays and years after that. I just knew today when I died.

'What exactly happened that year? Was I sick? Or did I get killed?' I shake my head, it's such an unpleasant thought.

I look at the his memorial plaque, "Were you sick? Or were you trying to keep that silly promise?"
