Kang Mingyu had never seen Zeke in his life, with the exception of when he and Lu AnLing had bumped into him while picking up sweets. Or at least that's what he believed.

Before his accident, Kang Mingyu had been with Kang Zhi for a little while but he did not know much about how Kang Zhi had looked like or acted like. He was not old enough to know any of these things but still... when he truly heard the man's voice and witnessed the way he acted, there was a certain familiarity.

After Feng Zhengyi had been dragged out, the family was quiet for a moment.

After a small while, Kang Jun gave a small sigh as he watched them and then he said, "Mingyu."

Hearing his name being called, Kang Mingyu turned around swiftly to look at Kang Jun. In an instant, his mind had moved from Kang Zhi to Kang Jun.

Though when he saw Kang Jun's face, which was slightly laced with fear of sorts, Kang Mingyu felt fear himself.

"That man," Kang Jun said referring to Kang Zhi behind him. "Is your father."

Hearing this, Kang Mingyu froze momentarily and then he nodded. He had assumed that that was the case.

Kang Mingyu turned to look at Kang Zhi and then he bowed. "Hello, I'm Kang Mingyu."

Seeing such a gesture, Kang Zhi imitated the boy's action and then he said, "...Hello... aren't you polite...?"

Hearing this, Elder Kang, who was getting up said, "Of course he's polite. Jun and AnLing have taught him well!"

Elder Kang then looked at the boy and smiled, "Isn't that right?"

Hearing this, Kang Mingyu turned suddenly towards Lu AnLing and Kang Jun and then he began to blush before he turned back to Kang Zhi and nodded bashfully.

Seeing this, something stung slightly at Kang Zhi's heart.

He had missed a lot with raising the boy. His first words, his first steps, his first tantrum... disciplining, teaching, and loving... he had lost the chance to do all this and for what? His cowardice. He had been wrong. The boy was so precious, like a rare treasure...

From the sidelines Elder Kang watched the small starring contest between the parent and child pair and then he sighed and said, "Everyone, let's leave. We wouldn't want to interrupt them."

After saying this, the old man walked out the door. The rest of the relatives didn't say anything but they lifted themselves up and followed the old man's lead.

Kang Mingyu watched as his relatives began to leave the room one by one. The last ones to leave the room where Lu AnLing and Kang Jun who held the hands of both Lu Yuxi and Kang Mei Xue who couldn't help but glimpse back at their brother with worry.

It was like he was going to be taken away. But what right did they have to stop him from meeting and being with his father.

There was a conflict within the twins but not only in them but also within Lu AnLing and Kang Jun.

However, there was nothing that could be done... this was the right path to take. Even if neither Lu AnLing nor Kang Jun believed that Kang Zhi was fit to be Kang Mingyu's father, they didn't feel as if they had a right to try to keep Kang Mingyu with them. If they did anything, wouldn't they just be as bad as Feng Zhengyi?

They didn't want this.

So they walked to the door.

Meanwhile, Kang Mingyu was happy with meeting his father for a moment but suddenly, his gaze traveled to the door where his parents and his sisters were exiting. Seeing them leave, something suddenly grabbed onto Kang Mingyu's heart.

"Mom... Dad..." He said in a low voice. Though, because it was so low, no one heard him and so they continued to walk away.

Kang Zhi even couldn't hear what his son had said despite being so close but he could see the heartbreak flash across the boys eyes.

By then, Lu AnLing, Kang Jun and the twins were already halfway through the door. They felt just as much heartbreak as the boy was feeling but they felt like it was the best to leave the father and son pair to speak.

But suddenly, Kang Mingyu, who was trying to find a voice deep within him, screamed,

"Mom! Dad!"

Hearing this, Lu AnLing and Kang Jun turned around swiftly. As soon as they did, they saw Kang Mingyu run to them with tears falling down his eyes.

Feeling a strange feeling of guilt and pain rise up within them, Lu AnLing and Kang Jun let go of the twins hands simultaneously and made up the distance between them.

The twins followed close behind them.

"What's wrong baby?" Lu AnLing said as she touched his fluffy hair gently. She moved pieces away from his eyes so she could properly see his chubby face which was being overwhelmed by hears.

"Don't leave me..." Kang Mingyu said with a sob.

Hearing this, Lu AnLing's heart broke into pieces. She was about to answer but then, suddenly, Kang Jun spoke.

"Mingyu... we're not leaving you. We're just giving you some time with Zhi... you need some time to get to know each other. He's your father, after all." Kang Jun said in a low and gentle voice. Kang Jun didn't like the idea of leaving the boy with Kang Zhi and frankly, he had felt overwhelmed with happiness when the boy had called out to Lu AnLing and him but once he saw Kang Zhi standing at the distance without his son, with a slightly complicated expression, Kang Jun couldn't help but feel like he had stolen something from the man.

However, Kang Mingyu didn't care about that. His heart felt weak and he couldn't help but feel afraid without Lu AnLing and Kang Jun by his side...

"No! I want to be with mommy and daddy...!" Kang Mingyu said with a sob as he clutched onto Lu AnLing and Kang Jun who leaned right in front of him.

Hearing this, a part of Kang Jun felt happy but he still wanted to give Kang Mingyu the chance to chose whether or not to go with his biological father. He was emotional right now, so he didn't know if this was really Kang Mingyu's choice.

"Mingyu... are you sure you know what you're saying? AnLing and I will always be here for you but Zhi is your father... Don't you want to know him?" kang Jun said sadly.

Kang Jun expected the boy to understand but suddenly, the boy shook his head violently before he looked up into Kang Jun's eyes.

"No need. I already have a daddy! You're my daddy!" Kang Mingyu said seriously.

Kang Jun felt himself smile and he didn't stop himself from showing it. He then patted Kang Mingyu's head before he turned to Kang Zhi and said,

"I'm sorry..."

Hearing this, Kang Zhi smiled partially bitterly, partially happily.

"It's okay... I think he's already chosen his family. And it's a good choice. I wouldn't be able to give him the family he wants and needs. " Kang Zhi said softly. Albeit a bit sadly.

Kang Zhi hadn't bonded with his child but still, he could see a bit of himself and Anna in the boy. He was the product of his and her love though in a horrible circumstance. And he had no confidence in being able to make the boy happy!

And so, to him, this was what was for the best.
